Cilla Black was surrounded by music and influenced by her family. Her father played the mouth organ and her mother and aunts would sing at family get-togethers and social gatherings.
From a very early age she wanted to be professional singer and be famous. During her late teens her ambition led her to working at some trendy clubs in England such as The Cavern where she worked as a coat-check girl and at The Zodiac where she was a waitress.
She would mingle with many up-and-coming singers that were appearing at the clubs. Since she was a good singer with plenty of experience she would convince the powers that be to let her share the spotlight on stage. Ella Fitzgerald was classified as a Jazz singer but this talented lady singer was so much more than that. She could sing Jazz, Ballads, Swing and Pop. She had the special talent of being able to sing Scat. She started singing scat while working with Dizzy Gillespie’s band.
She started her singing career with Big-bands such as Chuck Webb’s Orchestra. A t the time she had several hit songs such as “Love and Kisses” and “If You Can’t Sing it You’ll Have to Swing It”.
She had much success with an eight multi-album Songbook set of artists like Cole Porter, Duke Ellington and others.
During her career she won 13 Grammy awards and sold over 40 million records.

Dolly Parton was born in Locust Ridge, Tennessee. She is the fourth of 12 children. By her own admission she described them as "Dirt Poor."
She tells the story of a song she wrote titled "Coat of Many Colors." It was an actual coat that her mother lovingly made for her from a bunch of rags that someone had given to them. You'll hear the full story about it and some of the words to that song.

Connie Francis is an American pop singer who was the top charting female singer of the late 1950s and early 1960s.
The last song on an MGM contract was a song titled “Who’s Sorry Now.” At first she did not like the song and thought her voice sounded awful.
