It's Pride Month everybody so it's time to shine an extra spotlight on LGBTQIA+ cinema. For this episode, we're focusing on queer documentaries. First up we have A Secret Love, the intimate portrait of a lifelong lesbian partnership in that began in the 1940's when the world was a very different place for the queer community. Then we have the fantastic The Life And Death of Marsha P. Johnson, a beautiful documentary celebrating the work the trans community did during the gay rights movement (despite being horribly treated by their own community) and digs deeper into the beautiful life and tragic unsolved death of the icon that is Marsha P. A longstanding Hollywood archetype with endless iterations: The Bad Boy; The Rebel; The Kid From The Wrong Side of The Tracks. This episode we take a look at two of the most notable classics centered around this character. First we have James Dean in his career-defining role alongside Natalie Wood in Rebel Without A Cause. Then we jump to the novel-turned-film classic The Outsiders starring a slew of famous people as "greasers". Stay golden and enjoy!

Tom Hanks is an actor that's perpetually at his peak, but the 80s were a special time for this hot, hilarious leading man. Our first movie is one of his most famous movies, Big, involving that classic kid-stuck-in-an-adult's-body story line. Then we have the highly underrated slapstick romantic comedy Money Pit where he stars along the equally talented Shelley Long. It's a barrel of adorable laughs. Enjoy!

It has finally happened; we arrived in Bollywood. This is an incredibly massive genre we'll need to do several episodes on, but these were pretty good ones to start with. First we have the Bollywood version of a classic sports hero biopic with Azhar. Then we dive into the three hour coming of age/best friends forever/love story epic 3 idiots. It's a fun time you guys. We're spending a whole episode celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 13 mission. We cover not only the Hollywood version directed by Ron Howard, but we chat about the real life version as well. We happen to have a special connection to a very important player in this story so we're really bringing it with the facts on this one. Enjoy!

Time to hone in on one of our favorite directors, Wes Anderson. It's hard to choose only two movies from such a collection, but we think these give us a good view of his evolution from budding film maker to household name. First, we look at Rushmore, his first "big movie" though still considered indie by many. Then we talk (alot) about The Royal Tenenbaums, and masterpiece ensemble dark-comedy. Enjoy! 

The world is pretty void of live sporting events right now, so we figured another round of sports movies was in order. This time we're covering basketball movies. This is a massive genre, but we went for two of the most famous ones. First we have White Men Can't Jump starring Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson and peak early 90's South Central fashion. Then we talk about the nostalgia soaked Space Jam starring a variety of famous cartoon and arguably(or not) the greatest player basketball has ever seen. Enjoy!

It's a beautiful tale of music, love, and two left feet. This week, we're exploring romance via learning how to dance. What better vehicle for true love? First, we break down the MTV produced (yep!) Save The Last Dance, which manages to stay a teen romantic drama while casually tackling interracial relationship dynamics. Then we jump back to one of the original and possibly most famous movies in this genre, Dirty Dancing. Like Johnny said, nobody puts Baby in a corner, literally or figuratively. Enjoy!

Sometimes you find yourself renting or streaming a movie because "What the hell?" and you don't have very high expectations for it. And then sometimes you finish the movie realizing you were very wrong! This week we each picked a movie that exceeded our expectations when we watched it. Mollie picked the witty and surprisingly dark Paul Fieg flick A Simple Favor, and Lindsay went with the early 2000s Mel Brooksian satire Idiocracy. Enjoy!

Sometimes a movie comes along and flips cinema on its head. We talk about two such movies this week, specifically as it relates to changing the visual effects game. First up is Titanic. This epic (both as a film and in cost) was a painstaking passion project by Director James Cameron that rewrote the rules on how you built and manipulate a set. Second, we talk about The Matrix. There has not been an action movie made since this Wachowski film that has not been effected by the unbelievable way this movie approached fight scene filming. Enjoy!
