Over 1 Year ago I stopped consuming refined sugars and any product that had sugar snook into it. Why did I decide to do this? Well, besides the many health benefits to removing refined sugar from one's diet, I was simply and terribly addicted...
Hooked, I was. The most difficult and challenging experience I have had with addiction to this day, I couldn't help myself. A few minutes spare at the train station, I would go and buy chocolate, any short window of time where I was not engaged in some activity or distracted in some sense, I would CRAVE and find it nearly impossible to win against such a force.
With Self esteem next to none, I had to make a change. Depression kicked in with high intensity, and a black cloud dawned over my whole life. I did not want to live in fact, for I had driven myself so deep into this escapist cycle, and there was no escape... What was I even running from?
Responsibility, life, work, grind...
I was avoiding initiation into adulthood in other ways, and attempting to perpetuate the life of the boy inside of me. However this boy, was not so innocent. He was indulgent, and all he wanted to do was eat, smoke, sleep, masturbate, play video games, and smoke some more...
This was not a life I wanted to keep living... Listen in!

There are 6 core reasons why we might find ourselves feeling stressed. Simply put, these are basic lifestyle factors that you may well know, but find difficult putting to consistent practice.
Stress is a response to us being out of balance. The body-mind is always undergoing constant change as we interact with our inner and outer world. When we are in a state of stress, one or many of The 6 Foundational Principles may be out of balance, and so we can use these 6 Principles as a compass or navigational tool to find our way back home.
Home is the centre, the equilibrium, the sense of peace you might yearn for. It's there, inside of you, but before you are able to feel it, the cloud of stress must be lifted through the implementation of a basic healthy and harmonious lifestyle.

The topic of stress is one we need discuss, for as human beings we have made a grand mistake of blaming our external circumstances for the way we feel.
Stress is a 3 part process, and in this episode we will discuss how one can break free from the current norm of pointing fingers and complaining, to making the conscious choice to look within, and reprogram one's relationship with stressors.
What used to be stressful, may one day make you laugh. The large part of managing stress in our lives comes down to perspective. How we choose to see the world, what is the frame through which we are looking? That is in most cases the issue for many of us.
Simply changing how one sees the world is not all there is to mastering stress in one's life. Yet it is a key piece in building a strong foundation in emotional/mental resilience. In navigating the daily waters of life, one may benefit from taking up the practice of Mindfulness and Attentive Breathing.
Through these basics, we create space for awareness to arise from within. Such awareness can then see and observe thoughts and feelings that once seemed to take control over you. At the end of this episode you should have several tools in your arsenal that allow you to self soothe stress and live with emotional skill.
The practice is where the treasure is found...

Serving... this is what I am learning is an essential component to feeling a great sense of wellbeing and joy about life. To serve means to live for something greater than oneself alone.
It is a lonely life, one lived only for personal reasons. Out experience of life transforms as we allow ourselves to step into a 'TRANSPERSONAL PURPOSE', meaning quite literally, a purpose which is beyond oneself.
In order to serve others and live a life of more purpose, it is first KEY that one serves themselves. For if the cup is empty, how can anybody come to share your gifts?
In this episode of SLFMASTERY with Coach Usmosis, we explore what it means to serve, how this can massively boost your mental health & mood (there are multiple scientific studies now verifying this), and discuss some PRACTICAL TIPS on how you can start serving yourself better right from today.
It starts with you... and when your cup is full (or more full than it used to be) you now have the capacity to give to others. Not from a place that drains you. Not from a place that feels like constant obligation... a cage, but from a place of true LOVE & WILLINGNESS to not only 'be our best for ourselves', but to 'be our best for others.'
Make this a part of who you are and the rest will flow. Fill your cup, until it is so full that it spills over. This is when sharing our light becomes effortless. When it is spilling out of us...

Allow me to share my own personal journey in discovering one of the most healing and powerful meditation techniques I have come to find.
The Inner Child is used within psychotherapy and advanced counselling in order to help an individual track ones mental, emotional pains to a child like version of themselves who still (in some sense) is very much real and living.
Most of our emotional triggers are rooted in the past. Perhaps as a child we struggled to have some needs fulfilled. The need for safety, the need to feel loved and cared for, the need to feel part of a collective community, a family...
When our Inner Child has been wounded, it is often in our adult lives that we experience emotional/behavioural patterns which are still very much connected the child psyche within us.
Temper tantrums, intense spontaneous fear & anxiety, deep upset and pain when feeling rejected for example...
How many of us are still operating from out childhood wounds, and what is the cost of such a happening?
Separation in families, poor decisions made by politicians, broken relationships, unnecessary arguments that lead to no end... simply put, the cost of leaving our childhood wounds untended to is simply... more generational pain.
In order to evolve as a human race, our psychological, emotional & behavioural patterns have to be optimised and reformed. This allows us to be in the here and now, present with our families, friends and co-workers, no longer running painful programs from the past... unconsciously.
The first step to any healing is the cultivation of Awareness. So I ask you, to be mindful of your mental and emotional patterns, your intense feelings... be there with them, feel them through, and rather than projecting them out onto those around you, look within and treat your intense feelings like a wounded, scared child.
This gives rise to great self love & compassion. Which then ripples outward.

The Native American Sweat Lodge has been used throughout time as an initiation process designed to catalyse the experience of transformation or rebirth.
I travelled to Portugal, for reasons many as I discuss in this episode. I took part in a Sweat Lodge ceremony. It was profound and I learnt many things.
It taught me about FEAR. And that ultimately, on the other side of that which we fear... we come to experience that 'we are ok'.
This ever-present 'it's ok' that exists for us all is extremely healing, comforting, and empowering.
I am on my personal journey in embodying all that I have come to learn over that past decade. Meditating every single day, practicing yoga diligently and consistently like a monk. It has been my life, but...
IT IS NOT ENOUGH.
Health, is something I am coming to re-define.
Health is a lifestyle. One's way of life is one's health. And my way of life has been self-sabotaging in many ways, regardless of daily meditation and yoga.
The self sabotage has been rooted in a deep seated fear. A fear of the unknown, and the attempt to make things stable and predictable has lead to addiction... smoking weed is one of my escapes.
Eating can be another escapist behaviour that creeps back into my lifestyle. When I speak of escapist eating... I refer to when one eats as a means to avoid boredom, uncertainty, or stressful, intense feelings.
It surprises me that although I have practiced meditation for so long, and have journeyed so deep through the yoga and internal arts, that I am still running...
The void has until now remained a challenge for me to relax into. And so I share all I do in this episode of SLFMASTERY with Coach Usmosis as a clearly vulnerable & wounded healer.
I am here to serve you all. But I am also in the midst of a deep learning process. The process of learning how to simply be healthy...

It may seem now that times are more uncertain than others, but let us come to understand that uncertainty is something that has always been with us, and always will be.
The need to know what is round the corner... in prehistoric times it was necessary for us to know what the rustling behind the bushes was, for it could have been a tiger, waiting to pounce and kill.
Perhaps this is where we developed our ''need for certainty''. It comes from survival instinct, however now... we do not live in such a world wear our lives are at threat so often. We have the luxury of such safety, what a blessing.
It is important for us to consider, that we are in fact safe, and when we feel threatened by uncertainty to remember and realise there is no immediate threat to our safety.
The challenge of addiction arises when we find ourselves 'compelled' to create a sense of certainty within our days. When there is uncertainty, time unallocated, or outcomes unknown, many of us find ourselves feeling very uncomfortable.
This discomfort can be felt and soothed through internal means such as meditation/mindfulness/journalling, or an external attempt to soothe, through eating, checking, reaching for comforting substances or more.
Such external approaches to soothing our discomfort are short-lived, and only provide a temporary, illusory sense of safety and certainty.
Thus... the habit of addiction begins, until we decide to face what is really going on...

What does it mean to empower oneself? To take back the power and become a self-admired human being?
In my experience, empowerment comes from knowing I have a choice, for when I do not feel this, I feel powerless... Wouldn't you agree, that freedom is in choice?
Now, what is the choice we always have? The choice we can always call upon for self-empowerment. That is, the choice to respond to life as we see fit.
For some time I was addicted to sugar, marijuana, luxurious chocolate, being lazy, and even jars of peanut butter! During this time I felt powerless, for I could not control my hand to mouth interactions.
More food, more smoke, more food, more smoke... it was a dark time, but responsibility SAVED MY LIFE. For accepting that I had dug myself into that hole... was freedom. Pointing the finger at myself an no other, this was empowering.
I had taken myself deep into what I would call my own 'Hell on Earth', and in acknowledging this, I was able to empower myself and climb out from the Underworld.
