Scott returns to co-host while Ryan is exchanging vows, and helps Brant chat up 2016's Lady Bloodfight. An unofficial side-quel to the Van Damme classic Bloodsport, the Slugs have mixed feelings about this watchable, all-ladies tournament. There's some emotional heft to the movie and some solid performances, but the fights are poorly edited, and the movie is missing some of the tropes that make tournament movies so fun. We gave it a watchable, but Amazon Prime subscribers can judge for themselves.

Ryan and Brant grab take some wrenches and a blowtorch to Dolph Lundgren's 2005 revenge flick, The Mechanik, aka The Russian Specialist. Directed, written by, and starring Ivan Drago himself, the slugs were in agreement that this was straight down the middle watchable VOD action comfort food. Standouts include Ben Cross as Dolph's mercenary contact, and Dolph himself. Less fun were the many flashbacks and way too much sex trafficking. You can stream The Mechanik on Amazon.

While Ryan was out, getting hitched, Brant holds down the fort with return guest host Scott Mountain. But for a movie as wacky as 1994's Back In Action, a little something extra was called for. Strap in as Scott's brother and amateur raconteur, Mark Mountain, presides over this action flick. Starring Rowdy Roddy Piper and Mr. Tae-Bo himself, Billy Blanks, this movie was WATCHABLE (weird enough for 8 hosts.) Tune in to discover that Mark really doesn't have a lot of respect for Mr. Blanks, while Scott gives props the independent female characters.

Ryan and Brant take in 1991's Future Kick, starring Don "The Dragon" Wilson. This dystopian nightmare posits in the future, mankind lives in a disused warehouse district. And only at nighttime. Yep, only night.

Let's be real. The sets are barely existent. The action is wafer-thin. There's like eight kinds of "futuristic technology," which is about six too many. And the main hero is a robot, who just might be played by an actual robot. Ryan found it unwatchable, and Brant found it to be a messy hatewatch. So, yeah... you're gonna love this episode.

It's an action romantic mafia comedy, starring Madeleine Stowe, Sylvester Stallone, and Anthony Quinn. What could POSSIBLY GO WRONG!? Turns out, a lot. Ryan and Brant soak in this radioactive piece of unwatchable hot garbage. What's worse—how women are depicted, or the dead body smells that must be coming out of their house? You be the judge. Avenging Angelo is available for streaming on Prime, YouTube, and presumably most landfills.

The Slugs patch a hole in their heart by finally coming back to a JCVD movie. And boy howdy, is The Last Mercenary the wackiest action movie we've seen in a long time! Ryan and Brant are both okay with not having to get french humor. Good thing the Belgian action is top notch!

Sure, the premise of 2017's Acts of Vengeance is little familiar. Man's wife and child gets murdered, man goes on rampage of revenge. But Ryan and Brant really enjoyed this movie, which features some great performances from Antonio Banderas and Karl Urban. It's directed by Isaac Florentine of Undisputed fame, so you know the action is going to be SOLID GOLD. Ryan loved Banderas' character arc, while Brant got really hung up on problems with the lighting (maybe chill out Brant).

The Slugs go on patrol with Seattle's finest in S.W.A.T.: Under Siege. Truth be told, this movie wasn't great, despite Michael Jai White's best intentions. We had fun reviewing it though, which is good, because the flash card ran out of memory halfway through and we had to cover this puppy twice! This 2021 Netflix exclusive has a deep bench of powerhouse actors, including Karen Gillan, Angela Basset, Michelle Yeoh, Lena Heady, Carla Gugino, and Paul Giamatti. Chock-full of inventive action scenes and candy-color cinematography, the slugs were split. Ryan gave this a MUST WATCH, while "old stick in the mud" Brant settled for a HIGHLY WATCHABLE. Don't sleep on this movie—it's available on Netflix.

This week, we discuss the 1990 direct-to-video movie Martial Law. Starring Cynthia Rothrock, Chad McQueen, and David Carradine, the slugs were split. Ryan found it to be a must hatewatch, while Brant felt that it was more of a sleepy, but fun, watchable experience. It's a great example of the lower-budget action movies of the late 80s and early 90s, featuring plenty of stiff, tournament-style karate, big hair, and a sexy sax & synth soundtrack. It's currently streaming on IMDB/Amazon Prime.
