The Slugs enter the elite world of Tom Clancy's Without Remorse. Does this Amazon Prime exclusive pull off a storyline that was penned in the early almost 30 years prior? Eh... sure!

Ryan and Brant found it quite watchable, and particularly loved the performances by Michael B. Jordan and Jodie Turner-Smith.  The creaky cold war plotting... not as much. Great special effects, and don't cut yourself on Jordan's sliced abs!

This week special guest Will Winn joins the slugs to travel back to the early beginnings of the Shaw Brother's Kung-Fu film phenomenon for the must-watch classic One-Armed Swordsman. It has tremendous acting. It has a thoughtful meditation on the self-destructiveness of violence. It has beautifully crafted set. It has a man with one-armed, kicking the cr@p out of bandits in an open-air countryside tavern. Basically your traditional four-quadrant. No wonder it was a blockbuster over in Hong Kong.

Are you ready to Rock...  and Load!? Ryan and Brant discover that any many other catchphrases in the quasi-watchable Command Performance. All props are given to the auteur, Dolph Lundgren, who not only stars, but wrote, directed, and performs his own drumming in this movie.

It's an imperfect film, but once again Dolph reminds us why he truly is the most chill of The Expendables family tree.

Ryan and Brant visit the war-torn future where superpowers engage in proxy warfare across Europe, aided by combat robots and deadly androids. Yep  — it's the 2021 Netflix movie, Outside the Wire. Anthony Mackie has more charisma, even as a synthetic AI, than any other  ten men combined. Solid action and production, with great looking robots. A muddled plot and motivations earned it a solid watchable rating.

Tone returns to help Ryan and Brant soak in 2017's Brawl in Cell Block 99, directed by S. Craig Zahler, and starring Vince Vaughn. The carefully paced prison brawler begins as a character-driven drama, before simmering over into a brutal, skull smashing orgy of violence. Yes, we said it stars Vince Vaughn. Split decision this week, with Ryan giving it a highly watchable, and Tone and Brant nudging it into must watch territory.

This week on SLUGFEST... it's a very special episode. Partially because we broke format to cover Crank 2: High Voltage, a movie that opened theatrically in the US. But mostly because this was a racist, homophobic, misogynist train wreck that hurt our eyes, ears, stomachs, hearts, souls, and bums. It's a shame, because it also features some very innovative cinematography, editing, choreography, and effects.

Ryan spends a fair amount of time regretting that he lobbied so hard for this movie. Brant spends all his time getting revenge by way of high-minded moralizing and mansplaining (so basically a normal episode for him).

Ryan and Brant hop into a time machine, to check out the dystopian future in 1997's Drive. Starring Kadeem Hardison and Mark Dacascos, the future looks surprisingly like... 1997. Not to be confused with the unrelated 2011 movie Drive starring Ryan Gosling, the slugs really enjoyed most aspects of this movie, including fantastic martial arts, a scene-stealing Brittany Murphy, and wanton acts of mayhem committed against the travel and tourism industry. Drive is as watchable as it gets!
