This week the slugs checked their bags and boarded MONEY PLANE. This 2020 action flick is a MUST HATEWATCH... or just a plain old HATEWATCH, depending on which slug you ask. It has Frasier Crane as the mastermind, Joey Lawrence as the Bond Villain, Thomas Jane the pipe-smoking mentor, and Adam "Edge" Copeland as an action hero who spends a significant amount of screen time squeezed into a 747 cockpit. It looks like it was filmed in a local curtain and drapes store. So if you can't tell... WE LOVED IT.

MUST WATCH ALERT: The Slugs are joined by return guest Will Winn to chat about the 1994 certified classic Drunken Master II.  A mega-hit across Asia, the US didn't get around to releasing this in theaters for seven years—repackaged as a heavily re-edited Legend of the Drunken Master long after bootlegs of the original were circulating. All three of us agree that this is one of the greatest films of all time, and Jackie Chan turns in a physical performance that literally can't be beat. Directed by famed Kung-Fu director Chia-Liang Liu, this movie offers feats of martial arts athleticism and heaps of slapstick comedy that will cross any  cultural divide.  Check it out on Amazon Prime for a pittance—you will not be sorry.

Directed by Craig Moss, this movie tells the story of a older gentleman  pushed too far and fights back... becomes internet famous, and gets pushed even farther, and has to fight again. Come for a bus chase, stay for the completely inappropriate age gap between between Danny Trejo  and his love interest.

This week: 2019's Point Blank, starring Marcia Gay Harden, Anthony Mackie, and Frank Grillo. Studio executive pitch: A registered nurse teams up with a wounded fugitive to save their respective loved ones from a crooked Cincinnati Police Department. That logline doesn't do justice this HIGHLY WATCHABLE movie. The dialog snaps, the performances are fantastic, and the plot was good enough to reboot from a French film ooh-la-la. Point Blank is available on Netflix.

What better way to head into the Independence Day weekend than enlisting with the Slugs to check out 2009's The Marine 2.  This little leathernecked nugget stars WWE's Ted DiBiase Jr., Michael Rooker, and Temura "Jango Fett" Morrison. This movie is wild, mild, and strangely watchable... but not that watchable.

Come for the jittery action cams, stay for the sentient fireballs that chase DiBiase across a paradise resort where separatists have taken everybody but Ted hostage. Brant gets real hung up on continuity problems, while Ryan flexes his considerable WWE knowledge. It was directed by Roel Reiné, the mad genius behind the previously covered Pistol Whipped.

The Marine 2 is available on Apple, Prime, and the usual places. P.S.— there's like 27 of these f#cking Marine sequels, so we'll definitely be back for more wrasslin' jingoism in a future deployment.

SLUGFEST is hot on the trail of some modern day Robin Hoods seeking to take down Bruce Willis' financial empire in 2016's Marauders. We won't beat around the bush; this movie stunk up the slugcave something awful. The dialog will make you cringe, the plot will leave you wondering if you had a stroke, and Bruce Willis will leave you wondering if he had a stroke. But hey, sometimes you've got to watch a bad movie. Or better yet: skip it, sit back, and listen to us take some alley-oops and backboard-shattering dunks.

Grab a steel baton, slap on some hand wraps, and pull out your finest tracksuit. The Slugs head to Mother Russia for 2020's Russian Raid. When it comes to action, this movie delivers. Ryan and Brant both agreed that this was highly, highly watchable, with fantastic fight choreography, some good humor, and action  that doesn't let up. Yes, the plot is a dog's breakfast, but you won't really care.

The Slugs answer the call of duty and join the elite fighting force of 1987's G.I.JOE: The Movie.  Filled with sexy snake women, disfiguring poison spores, and giant bug monsters, this animated movie will make you wonder what they were smoking over at Hasbro to think this was suitable entertainment for children.

Ryan found this to be a very enjoyable hatewatch, while Brant stuck to his watchable guns—with a "must rewatch" caveat for those who are old enough to remember actually watching this.
