  • Episode 93: Kirsten Alberts: HERStory
Hooray!  We finally did it!  We finally got another stinking interview!
Today's nice little conversation is with the ever-entertaining, always friendly, incomparably dark Kirsten Alberts!  We've known Kirsten a while, and always adored her, so finally we got her on the podcast.  We had a good time and did a lot of talking.  Now's your turn to to a lot of listening.
You'll get to hear about Kirsten's upbringing in Chicago, her ill fated venture out to L.A. to work in film, discovering stand-up, and finding her comedic voice.  You know, the good stuff.
Get ready for a very special night of comedy at the Hidden House on Weds, 2/4, when we welcome JT Habersaat, Jay Whitecotton, and Mishka Shubaly to Phoenixes's Longest Running Independent Comedy Show!  This show is $10; and all monies go directly to supporting the Altercation Punk Comedy Tour!
Then!  Fuck yeah!  It's another First Friday Comedy at Lawn Gnome Publishing!  This show's absolutely free, BYOB, OMG and golly gee!
Ooo!  Next Friday, The Storrs Objection returns to Space 55!  Admission is a mere $5 donation to the theater, AND you get to see The Storrs Objection!
Lots of shows to see, and more interviews to hear!
Thanks for listening; keep coming out to shows and supporting the Live, Local, Blustery, Tempestuous, Independent PHX Comedy Scene!

  • HAHAHAHAHA WE LIED TO YOU
Okay, so we'd planned on having another interview today, because we know that's why people tune in and listen.  Alas, as a wise man once said, shit happens, and now we don't have another interview like we'd planned.  So, you get another weekly update, whether you like it or not.  Sorry about that.
We just did a fun show at TCA, the Right Wing, Left Wing comedy debate.  Good times sharing a stage with Jonathan Gregory, Bob Kubota, Guillermo Robles, Kristofer Royer, and of course, the esteemed Tony Vicich.
Big shows coming up!  Be sure to come out to Hidden House on 2/4 for the Phoenix stop on the Altercation Comedy Tour!  Admission is $10, and all proceeds go to the performers, so come help keep comedy indie!
Friday, February 6, we'll be back for another First Friday Comedy at Lawn Gnome!
Then, of course, Friday the 13th....The Storrs Objection!
Thanks for listening; keep coming out to shows and supporting the Live, Local, Sexily Sashaying Independent PHX Comedy Scene!

  • One Last Update, We Promise!
How sick and tired of the Audio Updates are you?  Well, we are, too.  We promise that we're going to get back to actual podcasting on the S&M Comedy Podcast lickety split!
We had a good time at Space 55, dropping another load of history knowledge on an unsuspecting comedy audience.  Next time we're out, Februrary 13, we'll be bringing out some smart dickheadery with The Storrs Objection!  That's right, the groundswell of support for the show was so undeniable, we've decided to bring it back as soon as we could!
Jamie was out at the Tempe Improv this past Sunday, graciously performing on a Snap Battles put together by the formidable Charlie Speez!  Jamie was knocked out in the first round by fellow indie comedy stalwart Matt Micheletti, and the show was great, mean, and fun.  It was a fantastic night, all thanks to Charlie.
Don't forget, Wednesday, February 4, be at the Hidden House for Mishka Shubaly, JT Habersaat, and Jay Whitecotton on The Altercation Punk Comedy Tour, Presented by Doug Stanhope's Celebrity Deathpool!  Admission is $10, and all proceeds go directly to the performers!
Alright, enough of this crap.  We've got a podcast to record.
Thanks for listening; keep coming out to shows and supporting the Live, Local, Dry, Desiccated, Independent PHX Comedy Scene!

  • Doink.
Alright.  Still no podcast.  Christmas kicked our asses and we've been sick.  You got a problem with that?  How many podcasts did you record over Christmas?   Yeah, thought so.  So back off, bitchez.
Speaking of podcasts, Jamie just had a great time on the first ever LIVE 123Jokes Podcast at Space 55!  That particular episode isn't quite up yet, but if you want a little insight into what they do, check out Steve's episode here and Jamie's episodes here and here.
This Day in History is this very Friday!  Come out to Space 55 at 10.30pm and find out what REALLY happened on January 9th!  (and by what REALLY happened, it could also be utter bullshit)
Come see Jamie this Sunday at the first ever Snap Battles at the Tempe Improv!  Our good friend of the podcast, Charlie Speez, has been working vigorously at making this the biggest and nastiest Snap Battles of all time, so visit the Tempe Improv's website and use promo code SNAPS for half off admission!
Speaking of promo codes, another good friend of the podcast, Tony Vicich, is holding his first free intro to stand up comedy workshop at Rick Bronson's House of Comedy this Saturday!  Check out the Comedy Schools website for more information.
Thanks for listening; keep coming out to shows and supporting the Live, Local, Erstwhile Independent PHX Comedy Scene!

  • Holy Holidaze!!!!!
Hey!  Merry Christmas or whatever else you've got going on.  We're not really sure what goes on on the other side of Christmas, but since every family has their own traditions, you could go to the house next door to celebrate the exact same holiday that you're used to celebrating, and walk into a totally alien experience.  If you go to Jamie's place for Christmas, you're going to have to jam out to John Denver and the Muppets.  If you go to Steve's place, you'll be playing Scrabble and avoiding meaningful conversation.  The point is, no two Christmases are the same.  Nor Hannukahs, or Festivuseses, or any of it.  To us, it's a celebration of family and winter and tradition and a shitload of food.  And in reality, it probably is to you, too.  The best and truest representation of the holiday season is quite eloquently stated by Tim Minchin right here.  Enjoy.
Steve was just at Stand Up Scottsdale, performing on a benefit for one of their employees who just lost everything in a fire.  What a terrible situation; we hope no one ever has to go through it.  But hey, if you do, hopefully there are some great people out there that will help by contributing to your GoFundMe.  Speaking of which- here's a GoFundMe that you can support right now!  Heeyyyy- how did that wind up here?  *wink*
Hey, get ready for Lawn Gnome next week and This Day at Space 55 the week after!

  • Throwback Wednesday! The Bill Binder Reprise!
Howdy pardner!  Rustle up some grub and have a heapin' helpin' of an old S&M Comedy Podcast!
Today's interview is a reissue of Episode 58, from all the way back in the summer of 2013.  We had Bill out as a fact checker alongside Matt Storrs on The Storrs Objection this past Friday, and his presence was resoundingly felt.  Bill is one of the sharpest minds in PHX Comedy, and he wielded it expertly at Space 55, to the delight of all in attendance.
It came to our attention that hillarious night that many in the PHX Comedy Community don't know who Bill is or what happens at The Torch Theatre on a weekendly basis.  DAH-DAH-DAAAH!  S&M Comedy to the rescue!  We are re-releasing episode 58 to raise your Bill Binder awareness!  You can relive this great conversation and rediscover what makes Bill such a beautiful gem in PHX Comedy.
We're laying low the rest of the year, so we'll see you at Lawn Gnome on 1/2.
Thanks for listening; keep coming out to shows and supporting the Live, Local, Swirling, Twirling Independent PHX Comedy Scene!

  • Lawyer Up
Hola!  Thanks for joining us for a quick little audio update!  Or are we joining you in whatever you're doing?  Well, then, thank us for joining you.
Last week was a fantastic First Friday Comedy at Lawn Gnome Publishing.  The show was packed the whole time, standing room only.  That's the first time that's ever happened.  It wasn't until the very end of the show that the owner of Lawn Gnome told Jamie that the New Times had included the show as one of the best free things to do in Phoenix that weekend.  So, a big thanks to the New Times, but seriously, maybe you could let us know about that shit.  They're like Batman- just swoop in and disappear before you get a chance to thank them.
During Jamie's super fun time at Lawn Gnome, Steve was out being a Tucsonite.  He was opening for John Roy at Laff's, with Alex Falcone featuring.  If you're new to the podcast, you should go back and listen to our two part interview with Alex.  And if you're new to the podcast, you probably already heard our interview with John Roy because that was just last week, unless you're really really really really new to the podcast, in which case, welcome to the podcast!
This Friday is the World Premiere of a brand new S&M Comedy Presents!  The Storrs Objection promises to be the most fun you've ever had during the month of December.  Far more fun than waking up on Christmas morning and finding a giant pile of gifts under the tree and acting like you still believe in Santa because you don't want your parents to realise that your childhood is over.  *ahem*  Anyway, get out to Space 55 on Friday, December 12th to see Bill Binder and Matt Storrs join forces to ruin several comedians' nights!  BYOB, bitches!
That's about it!  Thanks for listening; keep coming out to shows and supporting the Live, Local, Growing, Expanding, Enlarging, Engorging Independent PHX Comedy Scene!

  • Episode 92: A John Roy Eruption
Ahoy interview mateys!  Time for another swashbuckling, seafaring episode of the S&M Comedy Podcast!
Today's special little conversation is with John Roy!  John is a nationally touring comic who's been at the grind for the better part of two decades, so he's developed an encyclopedic knowledge of all things comedy in that time.  And he pretty squarely took that encyclopedia and smashed us across the face with it.  There's a fuckton of information here, so buckle up and hang on; it is a very fun time.  Also check out John's podcast and he even has a free comedy class online!
First Friday Comedy returns to Lawn Gnome Publishing this week with Chelsey Lynne, Aaron Kyle, Bob Timmons, Josh Graves, and Michael Turner!
Get ready for next week, when S&M Comedy Presents gets its ass back in Space 55 with a brand new show!  The Storrs Objection will be a weird, chaotic time, with comics doing all new material on subject they've never even thought of doing, with real-time fact checking and interjections by Matt Storrs and Bill Binder!  Sound weird?  It will be!  So come out to Space 55 at 10.30pm on 12/12 for world premier of The Storrs Objection!
Thanks for listening; keep coming out to shows and supporting the Live, Local, Steamrolling, Rampaging, Independent PHX Comedy Scene!

  • Thanksgivin’ a Fuck
Hola!  We got a quick little audio update for you, so come check it out with your ears!
We hope you've been enjoying listening to the Bill O'Connor podcast, taking in all that history and conspiracy, and we hope you're already working your way through "Confessions of a Bronx Bookie!"  It's not very often that someone we all know and hang with at shows writes a book, so go pick up a copy and support!
Jamie just got back from doing a weekend at Laff's in Tucson.  He got to meet a couple cool comics he would've otherwise never known, Jose Sarduy and John Crist.  They were very nice, and the crowds were very good, and, as always, Laff's is absolutely the best club in Arizona.
Steve will be out there in a couple weeks opening for John Roy and Alex Falcone, whom you probably remember from Episodes 66.  You should definitely make the trek down to Tucson for one of those shows, because holy shit.
This Friday, Jamie will be hosting at The Lighthouse Bar way out at El Mirage and Indian School.  Swing by if you're in the neighborhood, avoid Black Friday shopping horrors for a spell.
    Next week!  Lawn Gnome!
The week after that!  New show at Space 55!  But it's still a secret.
Thanks for listening; keep coming out to shows and supporting the Live, Local, Cranberry Covered, Pumpkin Filled, Independent Comedy Scene!

  • Episode 91: Admissions of Billy O’Connor
Top o' the mornin' to ya!  Let's have a podcast in our ears, shall we?
Today's conversation is with the loquacious Billy O'Connor!  Billy was cool enough to take time out of his incredibly busy schedule and sit down and talk with us about his first novel, the fixing of the first Super Bowl, Vietnam, the Eisenhower Administration, and generally making us feel really uneducated and sheltered in that way that only an old screwball from the Bronx can.
Bill is super busy right now, promoting "Confessions of a Bronx Bookie," about to be released in e-book format, and is essentially on the cusp of the life he's always dreamed.  You'll hear Bill's excitement in this rapid-fire, far-reaching conversation, and hopefully you'll catch some of that contagious energy and find a way to insert it into your own life!
Bill O'Connor is a 66 year old man that has a better web presence than we do:
Check out his website and pre-order his first novel!
Follow his Facebook for updates on shows and book signings!
Follow his Twitter for more of the same shit that you can get on his Facebook!
Go to his YouTube channel for NFL picks and whatnot!
Thanks for listening; keep coming out to shows and supporting the Live, Local, Garrulous, Outgoing, Independent PHX Comedy Scene!
