  • Finding True Happiness In What You Do | Kathy Mortenson | Episode TML141
Can a person find true happiness? Is that possible in our world that seem to be so chaotic?
Kathy Mortenson thinks you can. It is a matter of choice.
“Choice, what do you mean choice? What if I’m being forced to do what I’m doing? Do I still have a choice or What if I’m so far into my career and having all these responsibilities, do I now have a choice?
These are legitimate questions that is worth exploring.
Without trying to make it seem so simplistic, it is important to realize that you and I have a choice in all of life’s situation. We may not be able to change portions of what’s happening or has happened to us, be we have one portion that we have control over … our attitude or our response-ability.
Having been in quite challenging situation myself, I know that the immediate push-back might be: “It’s easy for you to say. You’ve never been in my situation”.
    And you are right.
But does that lessen or negate the point that you and I have a choice of how we behave … what attitude to display?
Without beleaguering the point, I would say that you have read of stories of people who have been in similar situation to yours and even worse, who talks about how their attitude made all the difference.
They found a way to have a sense of joy within that their circumstances could not stifle.
In this episode, our guest – Kathy Mortenson, shares with us the journey she has been on and how she believes it has led to her finding true happiness.
She shared how it hasn’t all been easy. As a matter of fact she is speaking from first-hand experience having gone through stress-related health issues.
Having come to her “sweet spot” in life and still tweaking here and there, she is a lot happier than before..
Here are some questions she posed as well as some suggestions:

    What makes you happy?
What would you do if you could?
What are your gifts and talents
Your unhappiness can produced stress-related illness
Do a little at a time towards your goal
    Hire a good life coach

  • Marriage Is Hard Is A Myth | Troy Stoneking | Episode TML140
“Marriage is hard, is a myth” says Author and Speaker Troy Stoneking.
These are some bold words, wouldn’t you say?
However, it all depends on how it is viewed. My full-disclosure is that he didn’t actually use the word “myth” but it’s the implication that led me there. I just wanted to be fair to Troy.
One of my favorite ways of responding to people who uses the word hard at the end of a statement, is to try and substitute the word “learning” in it’s place.
An example of that would be “life is hard.” My response would be to encourage the person to try and substitute “learning” at the end and see what happens.
Here is how it now sounds: “Life is learning.” That is as true a statement as any.
The caveat is, “what difference does that make in our framing of life?”
This is not an attempt to never to use the word hard to describe life’s experience. It’s just a reframe to make what might seem unbearable, bearable.
There are some take-aways that we might miss when we camp out on the “hard” issue.
In this episode, our guest – Troy Stoneking, shares with us the journey he has been on to the point of making such a bold claim: “Marriagd is hard, is a myth.”
How did he come to this conclusion? What happened in his life?
He shared how his past coming from a divorced household was one of the catalyst bringing him to this conclusion.
He also gave some practical advice on what you can do to always move your relationship forward.
Here are some of the points he made:

    Use your words carefully
Be intentional in how you speak to your spouse
    Be in mutual agreement
Make the commitment that this is TRUTH and then live your truth

  • Bouncing Back From Failure And Alcoholism | James Henderson | Episode TML139
Bouncing back from anything that has impacted our lives in a deep way, is never easy. When you have a failure from heights of great success, bouncing back from failure is even harder.
What do you do when you have fallen from success? Where do you turn?
During times where you are experiencing the deep pain of failure, turning to an outside source is often the direction that most people go.
However the direction taken in bouncing back from failure, can be a healthy or a not-so-healthy.
This was the case for our guest as he outlines his journey after being a successful restaurant owner and then have it all come crashing down.
In this episode, our guest – James Henderson, shares with us how he has gained the title of the comeback coach. He shared some very personal parts of his story in bouncing back from failure.
Here are some of the points he made:

    We are our brothers keeper
We fail when we don’t share with others our story that could be helpful to them
We all have a little light we can use to help someone who is in darkness
Taking our stories to our grave is a failure
Alcohol is called distilled spirits for a reason; it gives us the spirit
    … much more
