In the penultimate episode of this first season, Ballard and Parker discover that there was a survivor of the serial killer. With the survivors’ help, they uncover the identity of the killer.

After looping Captain Berchum in on the discovery of a survivor, Renee and Parker head to Madera to find out what happened. After getting there, Renee knew they would have to approach Naomi Bennett differently. Parker and Ballard bring Naomi back to LA to retrace what had happened to her all those years back. Parker and Laffont bring her back to the apartment she was living in during the time of her attack, and it helps spark the memory of that night.

The DA’s office tasks the Cold Case Team with preparing written statements for the DA regarding the LAPD corruption case. Martina has Tom Rawls look over her statement because she knows he will not treat her with kid gloves.

Tracey, Mike, and Pete discuss their favorite moments. To end the podcast, Mike has a game for Tracey and Pete. The game is Clue, where Mike has a list of items, places, people, and things affiliated with the first season of Ballard. The clues start vague and then become more specific about the item. How many did you figure out before Mike revealed the answers, or Tracey or Pete answered correctly?

In this episode of Ballard, the team collaborates to identify the remaining corrupt officers, particularly after Martina uncovers a dark secret.

Mike, Pete, and Tracey discuss their favorite moments from this episode. They also discuss their character spotlight, where each of them picked out a character who had a good episode. Furthermore, they also play a fun round of Password.

Well, Martina finally discovers Manny’s dark secret: he has been dating her solely to gather information about the Cold Case Unit’s progress on the John Doe case. We also discovered that Robert Olivas has taken the reins after Ballard killed Anthony Driscoll in self-defense. With the assistance of the team, Manny Santos is arrested for his involvement with the corrupt officers. And to help save his skin, he tells Ballard and the team all the players he knows who are also involved. By the end of the episode, Olivas is arrested for his involvement outside his kid’s school. Of course, he issues a threat that Ballard and Parker will regret their actions. Do you think it was a vague threat, or is there something out there that will target them?

Whether you loved or hated Hulk Hogan, you have to admit that he was larger than life.

Hulk Hogan lived a life so many people could envy. Most people would know him from his wrestling career, while others may remember him from the numerous movies and TV shows in which he was involved. Pete and Mike discuss both of those areas of his career in this Mashup Podcast. Terry Gene Bollea, better known by his ring name of Hulk Hogan, was born on August 11th, 1953. He recently passed away at the age of seventy-one.

Hulk wrestled in many wrestling companies, but is mainly known to fans from the WWE. Hogan began his wrestling career in 1977 and won multiple championships throughout his career, including six WWE World championships.

Outside of wrestling, Hogan appeared in Rocky III and starred in No Holds Barred, Mr. Nanny, and Suburban Commando. He is also known for the TV shows Hogan Knows Best and Thunder in Paradise. 

Hogan was a part of many wrestling matches throughout his career, but one of his notable matches was against Andre the Giant. Rest in power, Hulk; the world will miss your larger-than-life persona.

After the attack on Ballard, the team receives assistance from Harry Bosch and Maurice Bassi. Homicide takes over the cases, and so the team looks into a case involving a missing body.

Tracey, Pete, and Mike discuss their favorite moments from the 7th episode of Ballard. All of them were happy to see Stephen A. Chang reprise his role of Maurice “Mo” Bassi in this episode. Mo helps Bosch track down the burner phone numbers that were on Anthony Driscoll’s phone. Additionally, we see Harry Bosch’s new ride, a Ford Bronco, which prompts Mike to wonder if Titus Welliver had a say in what Bosch’s new vehicle would be after Preston Boreders and company shot up his old Jeep in the final season of Bosch Legacy.

With the Homicide Division taking over the Cold Case Unit’s cases, Ballard finds a new case to work on. A no-body case, where a teenager had gone missing, but the reason the family knows he is dead is that police found his blood near his apartment. The original investigator chalked it up as a gang killing, but in following the leads and clues, the Cold Case Team found out it was not as it appeared. They find the body and discover who killed Raehyun Lee.

One of the scenes that stuck out to me was this hug between Ballard and Laffont. She snuck Anthony Driscoll’s phone to Laffont to get to Bosch. Speaking of Bosch, Mike asks a question about the new-look Bosch at the start of the podcast. Please tune in to see what the Dig Down Crew had to say about it.

Happy Gilmore 2 recently hit Netflix, and Pete and Mike from So Many Shows enjoyed the new movie. With many cameos and appearances by real-life golfers, the film hits a few fan-favorite moments.

After a long absence from the sport of golf, Happy Gilmore finds himself in need of a substantial amount of money to send his daughter, Vienna, to the Paris Opera Ballet School. With the support of his family and a loyal fan base, Happy finds himself playing to preserve the traditional ways of the game of golf.

Mike and Pete enjoyed the movie, although there were a couple of exceptions. What were they? Tune in to the podcast discussion to find out.

Other than that, we found ourselves laughing out loud during many parts of the movie. It is rare to find yourself enjoying a long-awaited sequel, but this movie surely bucked the trend. The movie flowed well, and all the cameo appearances from people from all over the sports world were well-received by Mike and Pete.

There is a ticking clock on the unit to make any progress in the case, or else the Sarah Pearlman/serial killer cases will go to the Homicide Unit. In dealing with some form of insomnia, Ballard has dreams/nightmares about her dad. 

Mike started the podcast out by asking if, as a viewer, you get to a certain point in a season that you burn through the rest of the episodes to find out what happens. I hit that point at the end of this episode. With each passing episode, I kept hitting the ‘Watch Next’ button so I could get to the end faster to find out.

During the episode, numerous moments stood out. The highlight moment for me was when Aaron brought sandwiches to Ballard and Laffont during their stakeout, and Aaron and Laffont had a playful banter about which place has the best burger in town. The three dream sequences were filmed beautifully. Plus, the ticking clock has the whole cold case squad watching it. After receiving bad news about the DNA of Mike Garrison, Ballard takes a road trip to retrieve the murder book on the case. As it turns out, Denise was also killed around the same time, which means the serial killer is still out there.

While packing up the evidence for Homicide to take over the cases, Ballard finds out someone has already been sentenced to prison for a murder he did not commit. The end of the episode left us gasping for more.

‘What’s Done in the Dark’ was a fitting title for this episode, as it has a dark theme throughout. Pete, Tracey, and Mike discuss their favorite moments, whether they were the dark moments or not. They also bring a trivia game in at the end to test each other’s memory of the episode.

A lot of scenes in the episode made you feel for the characters, for sure. Samira Parker tackles her past, and Ballard’s story about Robert Olivas was eerily familiar to her. Colleen Hatteras and Ted Rawls uncover a shocking discovery in the cases of Sarah Pearlman and Laura Wilson. Anthony Driscoll is shown a few times in this episode as the Cold Case Unit begins uncovering his involvement in John Doe’s murder.

A new suspect emerges in the Pearlman/Wilson cases. Martina and her new boyfriend share a few scenes. Thomas Laffont tracks a former police officer’s movements during the last year of his career in the LAPD. The team kicked in on all the cases they have been investigating.

So far this season, we have seen a good blend of all the cases and characters.
