On this episode, Kristin has a compelling interview with Emmy Petersson, originally from Sweeden, now working as a Career Transition Coach in Melbourne Australia.

Emmy begins by telling of her journeys around the world and how she learned that “You don’t need a lot of resources, you need a lot of resourcefulness.”

Kristin and Emmy then examine the question: How do we get comfortable with being uncomfortable?

-Where did we get the idea that things have to be perfect the first time?

Emmy discusses the 3 Universal Needs:

Emmy encourages listeners to learn that they do not need to do everything alone and she has adopted a mantra that she learned from a coach she worked with in the past.

“Whatever happens, I can handle it, with some help.”

Kristin agrees and says, “If you’re able to admit that you don’t know something, that is a far greater strength than pretending you know something that you don’t and you are just trying to mask that weakness.”

In learning to become more comfortable with the workplace, Emmy encourages: “Don’t put on a shield to go to work; go to work as you.”

In this episode of the So She Did Podcast, Kristin shares a story about a recent encounter with an angry person. Rather than becoming obstinate and 'fighting fire with fire,' she had a moment where she recognized herself and her own behaviors in the man. 

She says: "I had this sudden realization that just as this man thought I was trespassing on his property, I have accused people of ‘ruining my day,’ ‘putting me in a bad mood,’ or ‘making me mad.’ My actions did not cause this man’s behavior, any more than the actions of other people have the ability to ruin my day.

Not only do I get to choose how I feel, but more importantly, I get to choose how I will respond. I didn’t feel angry when I left; I felt shaken, and dare-I-say it——shame. After all, I am more like that man than I am not.There is a quote from Stephen King’s ‘The Green Mile,’ that paraphrased, says:

I'm tired, boss… Mostly, I'm tired of people being ugly to each other. I'm tired of all the pain I feel and hear in the world...every day. There's too much of it. It's like pieces of glass in my head...all the time. Can you understand?

This week, I FEEL that.

We pursue our own best interest, at the expense of others, without any regard for what is in the best interest of the whole.

We say hurtful things, make painful comments or observations and then say we were ‘joking.’

We yell, get angry and take out our frustrations on strangers…or worse, on the people that are closest to us, whom we say we love the most.

We also do these things to ourselves, forgetting that we too need compassion and love." 

She then goes on to provide simple ways in which we can all better engage with the human experience in a way that is kind, and ends by saying, "I want to be a good human. I want to wake up every day, grateful for the opportunity to leave the world a little better than I found it, and fall asleep at night, knowing that I tried my best to do just that. Then, I want to wake up the next day, and try even harder.

I hope that this week, we are all working on being better humans. Imagine the impact if we all really just took this one piece of advice."

During this episode of the So She Did Podcast, Kristin speaks with Helene Brolund, Friendship Coach in Copenhagen, Denmark. The two discuss the need for authentic connection and the value of building friendships as adults. In addition, they discuss the challenges with building friendships including time-constraints, struggling with our own identity, becoming comfortable with vulnerability and developing a language around our needs and wants in our relationship with others. 

Helene suggests that we are 'Human Beings, not Human Doings." It is not our career, our accomplishments, or our outside image that defines us, rather it is who we are on the inside --- our wants, our thoughts, our goals, our hobbies, and the way we interact with others -- that defines who we are. Kristin and Helene discuss how to change a conversation from "What do you do?" to "Who are you really?" in order to build better connections and simultaneously becoming more self-aware.

Hey y’all. Kristin here, your host of the So-She-Did podcast. Summer weather is here in Colorado, the skies are blue and the mountains are waiting for me to hike them. We spent mother’s day driving up to Pike’s Peak, America’s mountain. While I don’t love heights, it was a reminder to me of all of the things that I have accomplished in the past. 


Last summer, I went sky diving for the first (and second!) time, I hiked my first 14er (that’s a 14k foot mountain), visited Nashville, Houston, Los Angeles and made my health and wellness a priority. 

All of that sounds great, but since then, I’ve lost my way a little bit. I’ve talked to so many people who have done the same thing. 

We got used to working from home…. In pajamas! 

We got used to interacting with people …. Online! 

Many of us (myself included) became complacent. Working from home, not getting outside enough and being glued to the computer keyboard exacerbated the problem. In November of 2020, a survey found that 43% of Americans reported having feelings of anxiety or depression. That’s almost half of us. 

So, where do we go from here?

Imagine the best version of yourself. What do you? Are you sitting in the home office eating an unhealthy snack while wearing pajamas or, are you waking up early, go for a walk, take a shower, and put on an outfit that makes you feel amazing before beginning the day?

How do you speak and connect? Are you primarily interacting via email, text and online or are you picking up the phone to talk to a colleague, attending networking events, smiling when you greets friends, both old and new and looking for opportunities to connect and build confidence?

How do you work? Are you wondering lackadaisically through the day, mindlessly moving from one task to another or are you beginning  the day with a plan of top priorities, a list of tasks to accomplish and a clear goal so that you fall asleep feeling at peace and accomplished?

How do you grow? Do you come home after the day to laze in front of Netflix, or are you taking time to read, talk to your family, take a course or otherwise move yourself forward?

I used to fantasize about all of the things I could do if there was freedom in my schedule or if I worked from home. Now that I have the freedom to do that, I have found that in order to really achieve the life I want, I also have the have the discipline to built the life I want. 

Last week I asked you whether or not you were living life on purpose or on accident. This week, the challenge is greater. Today, I challenge you to live on purpose. 

Imagine the very best version of yourself and begin to show up every single day as that. 

Wake up and start acting like your ideal self! 

For the next 24 hours, imagine you are in a move and you are playing the person you always wanted to be. Talk like that person. Act like that person. See what happens when you intentionally become the person you want to be.

We are told that we should forgive, that forgiveness is really about us moving on, not the person who did us wrong. But how does someone forgive the unforgivable?

After 20 years of marriage, Stephanie found herself in the doctor's office facing a life-changing diagnosis. She was HIV positive. Her husband had been sleeping with men, outside of marriage and without her knowledge for years. Not only that, but she was also pregnant. Doctors and religious leaders encourage Stephanie to abort her child, and her husband continued his lifestyle, even after knowing that he too was HIV positive. He introduced their son to drugs, and while Stephanie helped him recover, a relapse would ultimately lead to his death at 23. 

Despite having lost her marriage, her children and living with HIV, Stephanie has learned that forgiveness was never about condoning what happened, but rather releasing herself from being held captive by it. 

In this raw, candid, and often emotional interview, Stephanie tells her story of love, loss, grief, and forgiveness.
