We all want to be remembered for something, to be known as more than merely ordinary, to be seen as someone who truly made a difference. We all want to be known as someone who truly made a difference, to leave an imprint on this world and to leave behind something that can make the future a little brighter.
–
From the time we are kids, we’re told that we are special and we are destined for something wonderful, that we can take the world by the horns and that whatever we set our minds to we can accomplish, that it’s our world and what we choose to do with it is up to us.
–
But what happens when our lives change and our legacy turns into something we didn’t plan on? Things change in a moment and suddenly everything we believed, understood or desired goes out the window. Suddenly, we’re faced with a chance to rewrite our destinies, to make things right no matter how bad we think it sucked before.
–
We’ve all got roles in our lives, to be a good daughter, son, friend, cousin, etc., but it’s how we use it that makes all the difference. If we really try and really want it, we can actually change the world. Maybe it’s the hope for something better, but I truly believe we can make and break our own destinies.
–
What do you want your legacy to be? How do you want to be remembered?

“Insanity Is Doing the Same Thing Over and Over Again and Expecting Different Results”
–
People complain on the issues in the world and do nothing. Which is really why nothing changes. If you expect change you need to make the effort no matter how little.
–
We get asked the question a lot within this first year of our Podcasts: ‘Why are you doing the podcast if no one is listening?’ The answer is simple: ‘You need to make the effort to promote change and in time the message will get through’.
–
We do our podcasts to be doing something to make the world a better place rather then just sitting back and complaining about it.

Monkey see, monkey do is a pidgin-style saying that was already called an “old saying” in 1900. The saying refers to the learning of a process without an understanding of why it works. Another definition implies the act of imitation, usually with limited knowledge and/or concern for the consequences.
–
Versions of the saying that appeared in U.S. commercial advertisements for shoes and other apparel in the 1890s suggested it was popularly established by then, and an article in Sharpe’s London Magazine half a century earlier had pointed to monkeys’ habit of mimicry: “Whatever [a monkey] sees men do, he must affect to do the like himself.” The West African folklore tale of a peddler whose wares are ransacked by monkeys that proceed to imitate his gestures of outrage has been retold by Esphyr Slobodkina in Caps for Sale (A Tale of a Peddler, Some Monkeys and Their Monkey Business) and by Baba Wagué Diakité in The Hatseller and the Monkeys. Diakité notes that versions of his tale also are found in Egypt, Sudan, India, and England, and indeed have existed in Europe since the Middle Ages.
–
While other sources say that ‘Monkey See, Monkey Do’ is a saying that originated in Jamaica in the early 18th century and popped up in American culture in the early 1920s. The saying refers to learning something by mimicry, without understanding why it works or concerned about the consequences.
–
In Laymans Terms – An expression describing someone who imitates another person’s actions, good or bad, simply by having watched them before.

Ancient history is a time period from the beginning of writing and recorded human history to as far as late antiquity. The span of recorded history is roughly 5,000 years, beginning with the Sumerian cuneiform script. Ancient history covers all continents inhabited by humans in the period 3000 BCE – 500 CE. The three-age system periodizes ancient history into the Stone Age, the Bronze Age, and the Iron Age, with recorded history generally considered to begin with the Bronze Age. The start and end of the three ages varies between world regions. In many regions the Bronze Age is generally considered to begin a few centuries prior to 3000 BCE, while the end of the Iron Age varies from the early first millennium BCE in some regions to the late first millennium CE in others.
–
During the time period of ancient history, the world population was already exponentially increasing due to the Neolithic Revolution, which was in full progress. While in 10,000 BCE, the world population stood at 2 million, it rose to 45 million by 3,000 BCE. By the Iron Age in 1000 BCE, the population had risen to 72 million. By the end of the ancient period in 500 CE, the world population is thought to have stood at 209 million. In 10,500 years, the world population increased by 100 times.

** War **
War is generally defined as violent conflict between states or nations.
–
Nations go to war for a variety of reasons. It has been argued that a nation will go to war if the benefits of war are deemed to outweigh the disadvantages, and if there is a sense that there is not another mutually agreeable solution. More specifically, some have argued that wars are fought primarily for economic, religious, and political reasons. Others have claimed that most wars today are fought for ideological reasons.
–
In the United States, the legal power to declare war is vested in Congress; however, the president is the commander-in-chief of the military, so he or she holds power to conduct a war once it has been declared. In many instances, the president has used military force without declaring war.
–
** Just War Theory **
In Western tradition, there is a sense that the reasons for war must be just. This idea dates back to ancient times, but is most clearly traced to the writings of St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas. They attempted to justify war, and reconcile it with the Christian belief that taking a human life is wrong.
–
** Law of War **
Some of the just war theories have been adopted as parts of international agreements and incorporated into the law of war (i.e., international law) that regulates the resort to armed force, the conduct of hostilities, and the protection of war victims.

What is Life? It is the question that drives us. Why are we here? What is the meaning of life? What is the point of life? Why do we have a planet that sustains life? Why are there millions of other types life forms? Why do we have a sun? Where did all this space come from? Who made the atoms? How does the world work? There are a lot of questions to ask, but one thing is for sure, if you never stop learning, then life will never stop being amazing. This is not to say that you will be perfect or that life will be perfect. It’s just saying that learning is perfect, especially when you learn that perfection isn’t real, and that many thing’s in life seem to last forever, while many other things in life are just temporary.
–
There are no simple answers that would explain what life is. Life is many things and life is understood in different ways depending on how much knowledge and information you have, and your ability to understand it all. So there’s a lot that we can talk about since life is a large subject. There are many big questions to ask.
–
Life can take many unexpected turns. From experiencing the death of a loved one, to feeling burnt out in your career, to getting a divorce from someone you once thought you’d spend the rest of your life with. These life-altering events can cause immense pain and confusion, leaving many to wonder: what is the meaning of life, anyways?

Modesty – sometimes known as demureness, is a mode of dress and deportment which intends to avoid the encouraging of sexual attraction in others. The word “modesty” comes from the Latin word modestus which means “keeping within measure”. Standards of modesty are culturally and context dependent and vary widely. In this use, it may be considered inappropriate or immodest to reveal certain parts of the body. In some societies, modesty may involve women covering their bodies completely and not talking to men who are not immediate family members; in others, a fairly revealing but one-piece bathing costume is considered modest while other women wear bikinis. In some countries, exposure of the body in breach of community standards of modesty is also considered to be public indecency, and public nudity is generally illegal in most of the world and regarded as indecent exposure.
–
Vanity – is the excessive belief in one’s own abilities or attractiveness to others. Prior to the 14th century it did not have such narcissistic undertones, and merely meant futility. The related term vainglory is now often seen as an archaic synonym for vanity, but originally meant considering one’s own capabilities and that God’s help was not needed, i.e. unjustified boasting; although glory is now seen as having a predominantly positive meaning,[citation needed] the Latin term from which it derives, gloria, roughly means boasting, and was often used as a negative criticism.

Canadians (and most members of the Commonwealth) recognize Remembrance Day, originally called Armistice Day, every 11 November at 11 a.m. It marks the end of hostilities during the First World War and an opportunity to recall all those who have served in the nation’s defense.
–
** Armistice Day **
Armistice Day was inaugurated in 1919 throughout much of the British Empire, but on the second Monday in November. In 1921, the Canadian Parliament passed an Armistice Day bill to observe ceremonies on the first Monday in the week of 11 November, but this combined the event with the Thanksgiving Day holiday. For much of the 1920s, Canadians observed the date with little public demonstration. Veterans and their families gathered in churches and around local memorials, but observances involved few other Canadians.
–
In 1928, some prominent citizens, many of them veterans, pushed for greater recognition and to separate the remembrance of wartime sacrifice from the Thanksgiving holiday. In 1931, the federal government decreed that the newly named Remembrance Day would be observed on 11 November and moved Thanksgiving Day to a different date. Remembrance Day would emphasize the memory of fallen soldiers instead of the political and military events leading to victory in the First World War.
–
** 11 November **
Remembrance Day rejuvenated interest in recalling the war and military sacrifice, attracting thousands to ceremonies in cities large and small across the country. It remained a day to honour the fallen, but traditional services also witnessed occasional calls to remember the horror of war and to embrace peace. Remembrance Day ceremonies were usually held at community cenotaphs and war memorials, or sometimes at schools or in other public places. Two minutes of silence, the playing of the Last Post, the recitation of In Flanders Fields, and the wearing of poppies quickly became associated with the ceremony.
Remembrance Day has since gone through periods of intense observation and periodic decline. The 50th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in 1995 marked a noticeable upsurge of public interest, which has not ebbed in recent years. It is now a national holiday for federal and many provincial government workers, and the largest ceremonies are attended in major cities by tens of thousands. The ceremony at the National War Memorial in Ottawa is nationally televised, while most media outlets – including newspapers, magazines, radio and television stations, and internet sources – run special features, interviews, or investigative reports on military history or remembrance-related themes.

The phrase to put “lipstick on a pig” means making superficial or cosmetic changes to a product in a futile effort to disguise its fundamental failings.
–
There are many phrases using pigs, or swine, dating back to biblical times. This phrase seems to have been coined in the 20th century but did not become a common phrase until the 21st century and is often used in politics.
–
The expression is older than my grandfather’s grandfather and it means that you can dress something up but it doesn’t change what it is. Is the expression really that old?
–
The concept is an old one, but the phrasing used is kinda new. Many porcine proverbs describe vain attempts at converting something from ugly to pretty, or from useless to useful. The famous maxim that “You can’t make a silk purse from a sow’s ear” dates back at least to the mid-16th century. Other old sayings play on the ludicrousness of a pig getting dressed up. “A hog in armour is still but a hog” was recorded in 1732 by British physician Thomas Fuller. As Francis Grose later explained in A Classical Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue (1796), a “hog in armour” alludes to “an awkward or mean looking man or woman, finely dressed.” Charles H. Spurgeon noted another variation in his 1887 compendium of proverbs, The Salt-Cellars: “A hog in a silk waistcoat is still a hog,” meaning, “Circumstances do not alter a man’s nature, nor even his manners.”
–
Since then, “lipstick on a pig” has spiced up the political verbiage of everyone from Charlie Rangel to Dick Cheney. Even though the folksy expression is one that sounds old (and connects back to genuinely old proverbs), it’s not quite the vintage of anyone’s grandfather’s grandfather.
–
Still the fact remains behind the meaning of the term and we will discuss that in today’s episode.

We keep getting older, the games stay the same (and science backs that up).
–
Despite a wider variety than ever before, video games don’t have the same effect on me as they used to. That might not sound like a problem to some of you, but it is to me. I have played video games from the early days of my childhood, starting somewhere around the late ’70s. I became heavily addicted to my Atari, and I can still remember the thrill I felt the day I bought my first PlayStation 22 years ago.
–
Gaming was like breathing. It was the biggest part of my life as a kid and teenager, one of my priorities as a college student, and eventually one of my most expensive “hobbies” as a young professional.
–
Then all of a sudden, after thousands of hours spent playing across genres and platforms, boredom hit me hard for the very first time in my early forties. Some of my favorite games soon gave me the impression of being terribly long. I couldn’t help but notice all the repeating tropes and similarities in game design between franchises.
–
I figured it was just a matter of time before I found the right game to stimulate my interest again, but time continued to go by and nothing changed.
