Many of us lead wild and reckless lives with no direction when we were running the streets drinking and using. Sure, we had lots of fun times, but the truth was, as our disease progressed, we often got further and further from the life we really wanted.

Then the day came when we were finally hit with a big dose of humility and our self-indulgent adventures finally came to an end.

Thankfully, addiction recovery provides us with every tool we need to successfully navigate the ups and downs of life without having to drink, use, or cause harm to ourselves or anyone else. It also gives us the strength to walk through anything put before us, be true to ourselves, forge our own unique path and build the life we always wanted to have. 

If you're listening this today, know there will always be obstacles and challenges that stand in our way. But, when we’re truly committed, recovery provides us the spiritual strength and resilience to traverse any hazard we face and successfully touch the stars we never reached for while we were drinking, using, and running amuck. After a long hiatus, the Sobriety Rocks Podcast from Recovery HQ is back. I had a close friend die due to addiction last August, then one of my closest, young sponsees died of a fentanyl overdose at the end of September. So, I’ve taken the last few months to grieve, reflect, regroup, and do the work to maintain my sobriety and rejuvenate my spirit.

In this episode we talk about resolutions, or so-called new beginnings. Before sobriety most of my new beginnings only came about either because of some painful ending, or if I knew the outcome was going to be hugely successful before I even started.  

But in recovery, I’ve learned that each day is a new beginning, and every day is a gift. No matter where we are in our recovery, it’s never too late to become who and what we want to be. It doesn’t matter how challenging your past was. If you’re alive, listening to this, there’s a world of new opportunities right at your fingertips.

Today we close with a brief strength mantra meditation to help us successfully make it through anything we may be going through. Listen to learn that you’re not the only one who’s had to start over and that today’s as good a day as any to begin again.
