  • Insanity...

We’ve all had our bouts with insanity, both before we got to recovery and here in the rooms. We’ve also heard various definitions of insanity and some insanity slogans in meetings. If you still have bouts with insanity, today’s episode may provide a little relief.

We give some definitions of insanity, plus a few of the quotes we often hear about it. We also talk about some of the tools we use to stay on the right side of insanity and close with a brief level up meditation to help keep us a little more sane. Listen to learn that you’re not the only one that can go sideways and get a few tools to help keep you a little more level headed today.

  • Were Entirely Ready...

Many of us raised in dysfunctional homes weren’t taught how to effectively deal with difficult, unpleasant, or dangerous situations. Instead of building character, to survive, we built our character defects.

We arrived in recovery with our defects flourishing. Full of fear, doubt, guilt, shame, anger, sadness, and humiliation. Not humiliation from what others said or did, but from what we had done and who we had become.

All these years later, life, with all its trials and tribulations, still happens. How I respond to those trials and tribulations defines my character. My peace and happiness lie in the quality of my integrity, the goodness of my actions, and the benefit I bring to others’ lives.

If you’re struggling with being entirely ready, humbly asking for help, or some other challenge. Don’t be discouraged! We’ve all been there.

Today’s as good a day as any to become entirely ready, humbly ask, or make a sincere attempt

We close with a brief fear and courage meditation.

  • We Are All Channels

Aloha and welcome to the Sobriety Rocks Podcast, today we’re going to talk about how we all are channels

Our actions shape our spirit, and our spirit shapes our mind, our heart, our character, and our beliefs. The shape or our spirit determines what type of channel we are to the world. If our spirits are whole, strong, and free, we will channel positivity, strength, and freedom. But if our spirit is broken, weak, and restricted, we will channel dysfunction, weakness, and control.

What is the state of your spirit? What are you channeling to others?

There’s an amazing, uplifting life right here for all of us. Whatever lies ahead, our actions will dictate what spirit we bring and the type of channel we are.

How are you going to use your channel? To uplift and include, or oppress and hate? I choose to take positive action so I can be a channel of strength, unlimited possibility, and love.

    Have a great week!

  • When We Sincerely Took Such a Position

Aloha and welcome to the Sobriety Rocks Podcast, today we’re going to talk When We Sincerely Took Such a Position, All sorts of remarkable things followed.

― Lao Tzu (Cha) said, “When pure sincerity forms within, it is outwardly realized in other people's hearts.”

Nothing remarkable was happening in my life for months before I arrived at the rooms of recovery.

Then he showed me a few of the remarkable things in the third step promises. We enjoyed peace of mind. We discovered we could face life successfully. We began to lose our fear of today, tomorrow and the hereafter.

I wanted all that! Wouldn’t you know it, doing the actions sincerely, actually worked. I said all the prayers sincerely, I did the meditations sincerely, and I threw myself sincerely into service.

I kept going and not only didd the promises from the steps started happening for me, but the horrible guilt, shame, remorse, judgement, self-doubt, negative self-talk, and negative behaviors were nearly all gone, and my spirit had begun healing.

All these years later, by sincerely taking the actions outlined over and over, my spirit has healed.

No matter where you’re at in your recovery, no matter what other people have done to you, or what you may have done to yourself, if you do the work sincerely, you too can recover, heal your spirit and have all the promises come true for you.

Have an amazing weekend and please let us know if there’s anything at all we can do for you.

We close with a brief relaxing meditation.

  • Find Peace and Abundance

Aloha and welcome to the Sobriety Rocks Podcast, today we’re going to talk about Finding Peace Abundance by Healing Your Heart

Every ugly and damaging drama I ever went through has turned into a blessing. From having innocence, tenderness, and faith beaten out of me when I was a boy, to being falsely accused of child molestation more than thirty times after I became a father.

Today my life is overflowing, and I am not suffering from those or any negative events I went through. I turned blame and shame into purpose, did the painstaking spiritual work, healed my heart, and watched my life of suffering and scarcity turn into a life of peace and abundance.

If you’re suffering from past trauma, abuse, drug addiction, alcoholism, behavior addictions, and your spirit is still damaged. I guarantee the 12-step spiritual program of action will help heal your spirit and transform your life, just like it did mine. If you’re willing to do the work.

If you’re not suffering and have a life of peace and abundance, please help someone else turn their life around and get what you’ve got.

If you don’t want to do the work and still want suffering and scarcity, that’s your choice. Continue what you’re doing. But, if you want peace and abundance, you can have it, and we’re here to help.

There are times we must ask ourselves: do we want suffering and scarcity, or do we want peace and abundance?

I choose peace and abundance. How about you?

  • Empathy, Compassion, Love and Respect

Aloha and welcome to the Sobriety Rocks Podcast, today we’re going to talk about Empathy, Compassion and Love

Eric Yuan said, “Empathy, humanity and support for each other is more important than revenue, than growth.”

I used to criticize, judge, and look down at people when I was homeless. Little did I realize I was really criticizing, judging, and looking down on myself. Thank goodness when I was brought to recovery, people treated me with a level of empathy and compassion I hadn’t known previously.

As I began recovering, I started treating new members, with the same empathy and compassion you showed me. As I continued to grow, my empathy and compassion grew and blossomed into genuine love for my fellows.

Through the years, people in recovery have shown me and my family enormous amounts of love, compassion, and empathy during some very challenging times. Now, thirty years later, my life’s purpose is to serve and show love, empathy, and compassion to everyone I encounter.

Thank you all for this gift!

As I look around, I see a lot of change, and a lot of people afraid of change. But, if you look back at any time in history, change is the one and only constant. Rather than fearing change, I see opportunity and transformation!

Opportunity and transformation are good. But it’s my job to continue taking spiritual action so I will embrace change and show empathy, compassion, and love to those I meet.

I believe we all have empathy, compassion, and love within us. I pray we have enough courage to take the action necessary so we can display it.

Have an amazing day and please, show some empathy, compassion, and love to those you meet on your journey.

We’ll close with a brief empathy meditation.

  • Independence is Freedom!

Aloha and welcome to the Sobriety Rocks Podcast, today we’re going to talk about Independence and Freedom!

Herbert Hoover said, “Freedom is the open window through which pours the sunlight of the human spirit and human dignity.”

I don’t think President Hoover was talking about freedom from alcohol, drugs, and behavior addictions, but his words sure do ring true.

Today I am blessed with peace, joy, independence, and freedom, regardless of circumstances. I choose to serve, rejoice, and be free! How about you?

We close with a brief freedom meditation. So please get comfortable, close your eyes, take a few slow deep breaths, and join me.

  • Everything is Possible!

Aloha and welcome to the Sobriety Rocks Podcast, today we’re going to talk about Everything is Possible!

Audrey Hepburn said, “Nothing is impossible. The word itself says ‘I’m possible!”

I used to believe there were many things that were impossible. Things I couldn’t do, couldn’t overcome, or couldn’t get through. But in recovery, you all helped make my dreams come true, even during the most challenging times of my life. You also helped me get through with a strength, peace, and freedom I didn’t believe I possessed.

Over the years in recovery, I’ve seen liars become ethical & honest; cheaters become honorable & faithful; thieves become decent and respectable; and beggars become wealthy, upstanding citizens. I’ve seen that everything is possible, when we do it together!

Please, don’t let yourself or anyone else tell you that you can't do something, or that something seems impossible, or that something can't be done. No matter how big your dream or how large your obstacle, no matter what has happened to you in the past, absolutely everything in the world is possible, when we do it together!

So, if you don’t feel like you have enough power to make your dreams come true or, if you don’t feel like you can get through whatever challenging time you may be going through, tell a friend. Share your dreams and/or your challenges with them and ask for their help.

Together we will successfully get you through your challenges and happily help make your dreams come true!

Here’s to making the impossible possible!

Today we’ll close with a brief level up meditation.

  • Holding Your Face Up To The Light

Aloha and welcome to the Sobriety Rocks Podcast, I’m your host Kirk Waterman, today we’re going to talk about Holding Your Face Up To The Light

William James said, “Do not be afraid of life. Believe that life is worth living and your belief will help create the fact.”

Many addicts, alcoholics, codependents, and adult children learn from a young age that life is hard, with fear and pain being steady ingredients. We become so used to anticipating negative things happening, that fear becomes a part of us, and negative results begin materializing regularly.

In recovery we need to be careful about creating what we look for. Regardless of the frightening experiences of our pasts, we need to believe that other results are possible. Since you’re reading this, you’ve already experienced positive results in your recovery.

No matter where you’ve been or what you’ve done, new hopes, dreams, goals, actions, and results are possible. Believe they’re possible. The amazing new life each of us seeks is right here for the taking. Those who came before us gave us the blueprint.

So please, dream big dreams, take consistent, bold, positive action, and hold your face up to the light. If you do, your action will yield amazing results!

Here’s to living life to the fullest today!

Today we’ll close with a simple, yet powerful breathing meditation.
