  • How to lose the A's in 10 days
    aka how Oakland deserves better...
This episode ... ok I am going to admit, it's not going to be for everyone.
    .
    .
    .
It's about a boy who had a favorite baseball team when he discovered sports. It ends up being about a guy who loses that team as an adult from it's home city. Ok, yes, it's me. I been watching this happen over the past 20 years and not surprised how it ended. But it doesn't make me less upset about the matter.
    .
    .
    .
But why did it happen? Was there a way to avoid this? Who was to blame? Were there any parties innocent? I feel it doesn't matter now, but couldn't help but revisit and break down all the facts out there. There's a strong narrative that Oakland can't have a sports team because it's so damaged in it's infrastruture and development. But that couldn't be further from the truth.
    .
    .
    .
Bottom line, a baseball team, beloved by the fans of the city, resilent, and overachievers could not overcome their situation and their pitiful owner.
    .
    .
    .
I love the A's. I love their green and gold color scheme. Their news of their impending relocation made me so angry and I feel compelled to tell you why there could never be a happy ending for this team. And who knows, maybe the story isn't finished. But it sure seems like it is.

  • Matcha Monologues - Bali and Gili

Come for an audio tour of the last part of my Southeast Asia trip with the sounds of Bali and Gili Islands. Bali is known for tropical drinks, yoga, ancient architecture, temples, and a welcoming attitude for tourists. But it is also known for instagram models, long waits for those aggragated posts and videos that go viral, wild parties, crazy traffic, and tourist traps.

I will remember it for ancient dances and stories, beautiful instruments, offering baskets, rhythmic chopping of ingredients, and very cheap and so very delicious food. And so much culture that I could not get enough of.

There is also Gili Trawangan, one island of a remote island chain, off the coast of Lombok, with it's own vibe and party attitude. But I loved it for it's snorkeling, the nightlife that resembled a speakeasy lounge, and bike riding.

I loved my time traveling on this trip, but I will never forget about Bali. The faces and people I met will be forever imprinted in my memory for a long time. It was so different from my day to day life and everyone should do it as well.

  • Matcha Monologues - Jakarta
What if I told you, you used to live in a big house and it was nice. Then that family had to move away for reasons too complicated to explain. Life took you and your family to another country and away from that homeland and eventually to North America. Then after 65 years and more of life, you have a chance to return and find that house, or know if it even exists. How would you do it? How do you even start something like that?
Then let me tell you that this house was in the city of Jakarta, one of the most overpopulated cities in the world and it's not getting any better. The country and the public planning build more and more houses around that house and other houses. Thus, it's just going to make it harder and harder to find any remnants of the past.
In March of 2023, I traveled with my mother and my aunt to Jakarta as part of a Southeast Asia family trip. I was determined to try and find this house and I detail what went into it and add some family history about why my family doesn't think positively about China. There was a lot of work and sometimes all the work you put into something like this, will not be enough for the end goal.
This is a story I would have loved to go back in time and tell my past self at the age of 13. It's a story about love for a big family and looking to help the family achieve what is possible despite unfair circumstances. But it's also a story of a child of one generation, trying to take in every moment of the previous generation and relive all the nostalgia they can handle.

  • Matcha Monologues - Singapore and Kuala Lumpur
To start Season 3 of Social Dragonfly, I want to take you on an audio trip with me to Southeast Asia.
In this episode we cover the first week  to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.
We start with Singapore and exploring this diverse and intense city.  Singapore is a country with very strict rules and instructions for people to abide by or else there are consequences.  Some argue if it's worth it.  Some don't care if the end result is a country with one of the lowest crime rates.  You feel safe, and I feel safe.  I enjoy how it hasn't really affected the food scene, as shown in the movie Crazy Rich Asians.
And then we go to Malaysia, and the city of Kuala Lumpur.  We talk to our taxi driver of what we should look at in the city and we also listen to his hopes and dreams and how it is for him to live in Kuala Lumpur.  We also hike a waterfall.  Again, the food scene is absolutely delicious and yours truly eventually tries some good old school Durian.  Will he throw up on the recording?  Listen to find out.

Well well well... and so the end is here... of the 2022 NFL Season.  It's been a ride and hopefully it's been fun for you to join us on Double Doinks and Sackles.... teaching you how to football.

We have a commercial for a great Asian fusion restaurant in the Normal Heights area of San Diego.

And then we finish off the episode making way too early picks for next season's playoffs.  We talk about who can miss the playoffs who were in the playoffs this season and surprise playoff predictions.  We also talk about that quarterback free agency or trade carousel.

And Jimmy G the stat boy... uh Andrew talks about what's going to come up on this podcast in the next month or so.  Here's a hint.  There will be some Social Dragonfly episodes as Andrew is going to be visiting Southeast Asia on a very spiritual journey.  It's going to be fun and hopefully a little heartfelt.

  • Double Doinks and Sackles - Episode 028 - Conference Championship Recaps - Prop Bets and Super Bowl Preview / Picks

And then there were two.  It's Super Bowl time.

On this week's episode, we try not to get PTSD from the Conference Championship games.  That 49ers/Eagles game was the worst.  That Bengals/Chiefs game was better but still something more to be desired.  We discuss some of the coaching movement and speculate on what could happen.

This week's commercial is about what you can do once the NFL football season is over.

And then we go over some Super Bowl prop bets and make our picks for the Super Bowl.

And then we have a heartfelt conversation about if we would actually want to go to the Super Bowl.

Thanks for listening to Double Doinks and Sackles.  We hope we taught you how to football.

  • Double Doinks and Sackles - Episode 027 - Divisional Playoff Recap - Coaching Changes - Hot Wings Conference Championship Preview

What a great weekend of Divisional Round playoffs!

On this week's special show, we go over those playoff games.  The Jags had a chance.  The Giants had no chance.  The Bengals continue to surprise everyone except themselves.  And the Niners continue to do it with anything but an irrelevant player who's Purdy good.  What were the Cowboys doing?  What were the Bills doing?  We also chat a little bit about the various coaching changes going on in the league.

This week's commercial we visit a good place for a good burrito.  El Zarape.

We flashback to our Super Bowl picks back last Summer.  Some of us picked the wrong teams and some of us really picked the wrong teams.  But who picked the Eagles to make it this far?  Listen to find out.

And then we preview and make our picks for the Conference Championships while eating four increasingly spicy wings, because why not?  It gets a little weird and numb for some.  We also shout out Full Circle Saloon for their Chili cookoff during Pro Bowl Week.

Enjoy the games everyone!  We are almost at the Super Bowl!

In this week's episode, we go over what happened on Super Wild Card Weekend and what we can see happening next week in the Divisional Playoff weekend.  Are the Cowboys for real?  Do the Bills look like they can win despite the Allen turnovers.  Is Brock Purdy going to run out of luck?  Can the Jaguars upset another team?  We will see.

We will break down more of that Divisional Playoff weekend action.  Jimmy G the Stat Boy is drinking wine and has become a football savant, so listen in to listen to him teach you more about football.  Who knew?  Can't wait for this weekend's games.  DUVAL!
