Tap to follow so you can find this meditation whenever you need to be Softly Guided and continue with the next pillar in this six-part series.
This meditation is Part 4 of a six-part series exploring the six pillars of self-esteem, based on Nathaniel Branden’s book The Six Pillars of Self-Esteem. If this series resonates with you, I highly recommend reading the book alongside it.
The fourth pillar is Self-Assertiveness.
Self-assertiveness is not about being loud, confrontational, or always getting your way. It is about recognizing that your thoughts, feelings, needs, preferences, and values deserve a place in your life — and allowing yourself to express them when it is appropriate to do so.
You can care deeply about other people without disappearing in the process. You can disagree respectfully, communicate what you need, express your preferences, and make choices that reflect who you really are.
This meditation will help you practice finding your voice, taking up space in your own life, and becoming more comfortable being yourself without needing everyone else’s approval.
Your practice for the week: Notice the small moments when you automatically set aside your own preference or opinion. When it feels appropriate, pause and give yourself permission to express what is true for you.
Return to this meditation as often as you need throughout the week as you continue strengthening your self-esteem.
