So ham is referred to as Ajapa Japa Mantra, a natural mantra, the sound of the breath. Soham is a Dhyana Moksha Mantra, a mantra for meditation. Soham is a Vedanta Mantra, a mantra that leads to the highest knowledge and comes from the highest knowledge.
