Dr. Downs was give two honorary doctorate degrees. One in science and one in human services. She was founder of the American Audiology Society, awarded the Medal of the Ministry of Health of South Vietnam, and invited to lecture at the Carhart Memorial Lecture. Plus many other awards. She skied till she was 94. We cross countries skied together and she had me promote her last book "Shut Up and Live". Which I believe every single woman should read that is over 50 years of age. She did win 5 gold metals for tennis in the National Senior Games and beat a brain tumor thus parachute tandem in her nineties.
She was a Maverick Leader and wrote a letter stating that she thought it was an innovative and helpful concept to have those of us with hearing loss wear the Hearing Friendly Symbol. Tune Into Listen.
