From out of the Wild West and into "The Frightened Town" comes our favorite cowboy, Hopalong Cassidy!   In Volume 98 from the western division of the Vast Library of Sound is another exciting story with Hoppy & his pal California, one of our favorites Andy Clyde.  It was Andy Clyde who also starred with our very own Grandpa on Sounds Like Radio, Walter Brennan.  Andy & Walter played 2 crotchety old friends on another favorite of mine, "The Real McCoys".  Thanks to DVDs I'm watching the Real McCoys again and I love it.  But before Andy joined Grandpa on the Real McCoys he was Hopalong Cassidy's sidekick and he's here right now in this January 20, 1951 edition of Hopalong Cassidy.  

By the way, in the picture here that's next to today's show you see Hopalong, Andy Clyde and the one and only George Reeves the real Superman from television!!   Superman himself played in several Hopalong movies before his Superman days began.  OK now, let's ride.

It's story time on Volume 97 from the old Vast Library of Sound show today.  The one and only Boris Karloff is here to tell us all about How The Rhinoceros Got his Skin.  This is a classic Rudyard Kipling tale Boris is here to tell us in his own unique style.   I love listening to Boris' stories even when they're not scary ones.  Gather the kids or just relax and listen yourself to this very short and sweet Boris Karloff story.

From Volume 96 of the Vast Library of Sound comes the very first show Phil Harris and Alice Faye ever did for the Rexall people.   I think Rexall was the one sponsor most associated with the Phil Harris-Alice Faye Show due to the calming voice of Griff Barnett who was "your family druggist" and the voice of the Rexall commercials on the show.   For a long time his voice reminded me of someone I had seen before, then it finally hit me, he was the guy that played Janet Leigh's father in the classic Christmas movie "A Holiday Affair" with Robert Mitchum.  That was something that bothered me for years till I finally figured it out.   

The Phil Harris and Alice Faye Show and the Jack Benny Show were the 2 funniest radio shows on.  They are literally for me laugh out loud programs.   Enjoy a laugh today from the Library of Sound.

Volume 94 of the Library of Sound opens up once again for this Easter special from tough guy private eye, Sam Spade!   Even if the story isn't all about Easter the title sure is, "The Flopsy-Mopsy & Cottontail Caper" originally broadcast December 4, 1949.   Howard Duff is back in the role he was born to play, Sam Spade on radio!

From Volume 91 of the Library of Sound comes this most unusual and memorable Easter episode of "Quiet Please".   One of radio's best dramas presenting unusual and at times scary stories.   Our story for Easter today is "Shadow of The Wings" originally heard on April 17, 1949.  It's at times sad and at times beautiful.   And now a very special Easter presentation for you.

The Library of Sound is celebrating Easter this entire week.  Monday thru Friday each day we'll be presenting a different Easter episode of a classic radio show!   We start Easter week off with this rarely heard Bing Crosby GE Easter Show from April 2, 1953 with Rosemary Clooney & jazz violinist and funny man-Joe Venuti, yes "This Is The Place".
