Time to celebrate Saint Patrick's Day with our favorite holiday guy, Jean Shepherd!   From our Vast Library of Sound comes Volume 85 and a March 17, 1972 Jean Shepherd show from St. Patty's Day itself!   Find out what they mean by Top of The Mornin' (or is that top it off) as Shep stops in a Dublin, Ireland tavern for breakfast and there ain't a scrambled egg in sight.  But plenty of happy juice to go round.   Let's join Jean in a round, I'll have a green Sarsaparilla bartender.   

The original Philip Marlowe radio series starts up today on the Library of Sound Volume 84!  From September 26, 1948 Gerald Mohr who was radio's definitive Philip Marlowe investigates the case of the Red Wind (which was an original Raymond Chandler short story too).  From our Vast Library of Sound Volume 84 comes the very first Gerald Mohr episode of Philip Marlowe.  This is Your Humble Host's favorite radio voice for Philip Marlowe, Gerald Mohr was born for the role.

Get ready to track the bad guys old style with radio's toughest detective, Philip Marlowe!

In Volume 91 of today's Great Gildersleeve from April 12, 1950 Leroy wants to make money.  Gildy advises Leroy to be smart about it, Leroy comes up with his smart idea of using a goat as his business partner!  The goat and Gildy?   They don't exactly get along.  To help Leroy out with his new business Burl Ives, Doris Day, Bing Crosby, Judy Garland with a really neat song from a Bing radio show, Nat King Cole, Peggy Lee & to round out the the advice corner is none other than our very own Grandpa!!  He's here and he knows where to find a goat and where he likes it best.

It's time we got back to good old western adventure here on the Library of Sound.  What better way than with our favorite cowboy around these parts, Hopalong Cassidy!   Today Hoppy's after the "Killer In Black" A Hopalong Cassidy adventure as it was originally broadcast January 27, 1951.   Take the reins in hand and let's ride out with Hoppy and good old California (that's his pal, not a state).

On Volume 90 of Sounds Like Radio the theme is home.   Going Home, Leaving Home and Returning Home that's the subject today.  For Gildy's concerned with where Marjorie & Bronco will be living after they get married.   To help with the very idea of family and home are Burl Ives, Petula Clark, Bing Crosby, Crystal Gayle (pictured with this episode), Dinah Washington and even our favorite- Grandpa stops by to talk about family and home.   And then a very special song by Johnny Mathis that hit home for my brother and me.   From April 5, 1950 comes today's Great Gildersleeve episode.

In Volume 89 of Sounds Like Radio it's time for The Great Gildersleeve from March 29, 1950 as our boy Gildy invites the persnickety old Judge Hooker to stay at his house while the Judge's place is being de-bugged!   Now Gildy has to suffer with the Judge's health food diet, Birdy has to cook it and Gildy's headed for the couch!    Oh dear, what a house guest.   Well to help out the situation we offer some of the finest music you haven't heard in quite a while, listen as Dean Martin, Helen O'Connell, Bing Crosby, Julie London, Jackie DeShannon (pictured here) and even the great actor Jeff Chandler sings a little ditty all for Gildy's and our benefit.  It's a fun show filled with mirth and music.

Volume 88 of Sounds Like Radio sees Marjorie & Bronco trying to get their families on more friendly terms.  They have an idea to all go on a picnic by the lake with a little sailing.   Sounds good to Your Humble Host.  Joseph Kearns (Mr. Wilson from Dennis The Menace) is back as Bronco's father.   So let's all sing & sail with J.P. Morgan, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Helen Ward, Arthur Tracy, Jo Stafford.  Even Uncle Jed (Buddy Ebsen from The Beverly Hillbillies) will be on hand to reassure us that Everything's OK.  From March 22, 1950 hear now The Great Gildersleeve!
