Today I am going to tell you the story of a well known Appalachian ghost who haunts the small town of Logan West Virginia. Her story is a lurid tale of sex, murder, and cover up that still has locals scratching their heads to this day. 

Her name was Mamie Thurman, and she’s notorious in the town of Logan.

All of us have heard the urban legend of the hook man. You know, the one that always starts out with some couple seeking out a dark,secluded spot where they can disregard their virtue.

Then the duwop soundtrack of lovers lane is interrupted by radio static and a frantic announcer proclaiming an escaped mental patient with an appetite for murder and a hook for a hand is loose in the area.

There are a few variations on what happens next, but usually the couple makes it home to find a bloody hook stuck in one of the car doors.

This classic urban legend has been passed down for decades, but it had to start somewhere, right?

Vicksburg Mississippis is a city filled with ghosts — metaphorically and some would also say literally.

Kuhn Memorial State Hospital lurks, darkly, in an overgrown area between downtown Vicksburg and the Vicksburg National Military Park. 

The broken-down building looks well built and sturdy, but in recent years it has stood vacant.
