Weekend Scripture: Philippians 3

Who have you placed your confidence in?

Scott leads us through Philippians 3 as we continue our series on Joy. Everyone has credentials, things we think can "get us in" to where we want to go. Paul has a lot of religious credentials, even claiming to be blameless under the law. But instead of boasting, Paul says to count it all as loss and exhorts the church at Phillipi that the only credentials that matter, the only One we can place our confidence in, is Jesus. You really get to know Jesus when everything you hold dear is stripped away, and all you have is Him, proving His faithfulness and giving you joy in the pain. When you sin, fall short, and mess up, you can remind yourself, "I know a guy… His name is Jesus."

Weekend Scripture: Philippians 2

To live is Christ and to die is gain.

This week, Scott walked us through Philippians 2. Jesus poured Himself, emptying Himself of the riches of heaven so that we could be saved by His grace. According to Paul, Jesus said that it is more blessed to give than to receive. The most joyful life is the one spent for Jesus, reaching lost and broken people. The path to being full of joy is emptying yourself out. If you aren't experiencing the joy of Jesus, it's because you aren't emptying yourself out for Jesus.

When your circumstances spiral out of your control, do you let your emotions spiral with them, or do you choose a different path?

In this episode of Off Script, Carl joins Neil to dive into the first chapter of Philippians. They unpack the context behind Paul's letter, written while chained inside a prison cell, and how his circumstances didn't stop him from overflowing with joy. Choose joy when the future is uncertain.

Weekend Scripture: Galatians 5

Be killing sin, or sin will be killing you.

This Sunday, Scott dives into Galatians 5 where Paul encourages the church in Galatia to live by the Spirit. Even in our walk with Jesus, we will still face, struggle with, and be tempted to sin. But we must join the Holy Spirit daily in continuing to crucify our flesh. When we live by the Spirit, He supplies what we need to grow. He shapes us, changes us, transforms us, and enables us to become more like Jesus.
