Guest: Harry Pavlidis, Baseball Prospectus

Pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training this week which gives us an opportunity to nerd out what is happening on the mound. Our good friend Harry Pavlidis of Baseball Prospectus joins the show to share the latest on pitch tunnels, why we will see more breaking pitches in 2018, and breakdown PECOTA's 2018 projection for the White Sox. Harry will also give a reason why the White Sox could be a .500 team, and why the White Sox could have a worse record than last year.

Our first Sox Machine podcast focuses on the MLB off-season and what the White Sox have achieved. Thanks to Yahoo! Sports, Jeff Passan, it appears clear that teams are operating in a different manner than before. How will that impact the near future, especially for the White Sox, who could be ready to make significant additions soon.

Speaking of additions, we break down how Rick Hahn has addressed the bullpen. Also, how will Yolmer Sanchez and Avisail Garcia arbitration cases end up.

We've got news as some things are changing for 2018 and beyond.

The Winter Meetings are over and there wasn't a lot of activity overall. A few relievers signed but the biggest rumor out of Orlando was the serious interest in Manny Machado, especially from the White Sox.

What does this rumor mean? How would adding Machado now help the White Sox rebuild? Are they ready for a quick transition from rebuilder to contender? What kind of deal would make sense in acquiring Machado? Is it even worth it?

We tackle those questions and yours as we conclude our 2017 podcast season. Thank you so much for listening and we look forward to 2018.

The MLB offseason is off to a quiet start as we wait for Shohei Ohtani and Giancarlo Stanton find a home, but the White Sox did pull off a trade for Thyago Vieira. We debate if he can make the 25-man roster and help the White Sox bullpen in 2018.

Our guest this week is Jim Callis from MLB.com and MLBPipeline. He shares his thoughts about Vieira, how the pending Braves punishment will impact the prospect market, and a recap of the Arizona Fall League.

Airing date: 11-15-2017

Josh Nelson joins Jonathan Hood to discuss the White Sox offseason plans. Would Rick Hahn pursue Joe Giriadi as manager? Who could be some targets for the White Sox to sign this offseason? What did we learn from this postseason?

On this week’s show we complete our 2017 season reviews with the pitchers and catchers. On the pitching side, there were quite a few names that appeared in games for the White Sox. But starting in 2018 we’ll get a chance to see Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez more, plus the upcoming debuts of Michael Kopech and even Alec Hansen. The future is bright for White Sox pitchers, but what about at catcher? Is Kevan Smith and Omar Narvaez good enough to lock the position down before Zack Collins arrives?

Plus we preview the World Series between Houston and Los Angeles, and recap all of the firings and hirings in MLB.

We recap the 2017 White Sox outfielders season by guessing what could become with this unit. What should the White Sox do with Avisail Garcia? When can we see Eloy Jimenez? Can Nicky Delmonico be counted on in 2018 and beyond? Who will start in CF for the White Sox in 2018?

Plus, we recap what has happened in the MLB postseason and answer your questions in P.O. Sox.
