Culture flavors expressions of spirituality and religion and one of the most interesting instances of this in the Western world is what happened to the where lands ended, at the far West of Europe in what know now as Wales, Ireland, Britain, and Scotland.
These where places not dominated by the Roman Empire and what eventually came after the collapse of the Roman Empire called The Holy Roman Empire, which was neither holy nor Roman. It was the last standing large institution to fill the power vacuum and it influenced much of how Christianity would take shape in Europe and the West.
Today, in my conversation with author and return guest Carl McColman, we will learn about this little pocket in the far West of Europe that had been evangelize by Christianity early on and yet was spared much of the hierarchy and influences from the center of Church power in Rome. It found unique expressions of faith and vibrant life and spirituality that took on unique qualities and wove in some sacred elements from their recent pagan past as well as their ancient connects to the land and affinities to natural world.
Wisdom and beauty are found through these expression of the Christian faith and we can learn and weave in and enliven our lives with some of these ideas and elements too.
Enjoy!!
