Welcome to a new series on the mind-body connection from Daily Whispers.
Communication between your mind and body is happening non-stop, even in your sleep. However, most of us often miss these vital updates.
In our noisy, fast-paced, and chaotic world, it's crucial to start listening to the information streaming through our bodies. Did you know that 70-80% of your internal communication is from the body to the brain? This means your body is constantly feeding messages to your brain. Only 20-30% of this communication flows from the brain to the body.
Why does this matter?
Because every moment, you are receiving hits of guidance, direction, and insight that you might be missing. Becoming fluent in the language of the body can help you tap into this internal wisdom. This has been a lifelong passion and obsession of mine—understanding what my body is trying to tell me in any given moment.
And I want to share what I’ve learned with you.
To decipher these messages, pay attention to what your body is telling you in obvious ways. In so doing, you’ll build somatic (body) awareness. Start by asking yourself simple questions like:
- Am I cold?
- Am I hot?
- Am I thirsty?
- Am I hungry?
- Am I tired?
- Do I feel energized?
- Am I tense or relaxed?
Listen for the answers. They may not necessarily come in words but rather through sensations. As you practice, you will start to understand deeper and more subtle hits of guidance, insight, and inner wisdom. Remember, communication between your mind and body is constant, and most of it streams from your body to your mind. Start by listening for updates.

Have you ever felt like your hair is on fire? I have, and it’s a relief to know I’m not alone. Menopause can hit hard, affecting our minds, bodies, and relationships. But it’s not our fault, and it’s not a myth.
In this highly charged Daily Whisper, we explore the physical and emotional changes that come with menopause and how to embrace this transformation.
It’s time to challenge the stereotypes, empower ourselves, and share our journeys with other women.
Here’s a quick summary:
* The Great Disruptor: Menopause has a way of sneaking up on us. It can creep in slowly or make a grand entrance. While some may escape its grasp, only a handful of women do so. In fact, a whopping 87% of us will experience some form of disruption due to menopause.
* Navigating the Mental Maze: The real revelation here is that you're not going insane. Menopause can make you question everything – your identity, your relationships, your beliefs, and more. It's like shaking up a snow globe and watching everything swirl around. It's not a figment of your imagination; it's real, it's physical, and it's rooted in your brain.
* Hormonal Upheaval: Estrogen and progesterone have their fingerprints all over our brains, among other places. When these hormones start fluctuating during perimenopause, it's a game-changer. Your thinking, feeling, focusing, remembering, and communicating abilities can all go for a wild ride.
* Breaking Stereotypes: Society's portrayal of women in their 40s and beyond has often been unjust and stigmatizing, painting us as irrational and erratic. Just think of Edith Bunker from "All in the Family." We've had to endure such stereotypes for too long. Enough is enough!
* Own Your Fire: So, if you feel like your hair is on fire, remember that it's not all in your head, and it's not your fault. You're going through a transformation, and it's called menopause – a hormonal reorganization, a fire within.
Take Charge of Your Journey!
Start by getting to know this "hair-on-fire" version of yourself. Accept her, admire her, and understand her. It's when we acknowledge and share our experiences that we can truly empower ourselves and others.
And remember, this transition could be the most empowering phase of your life. Menopause might not be happening to you but for you, for us women in our 40s and beyond, propelling us to step into our power.
So, my sister, if you feel like your hair is on fire, know that you're not alone. It's time to become acutely aware, compassionate, and empowered. And remember, I'm here with you every step of the way.

Upgrading Friendships in Midlife. Today I share a personal story from the Maine Women’s Conference. Last week, while having lunch, I mentioned that I work as a menopause performance coach, and the woman sitting next to me exclaimed, “Oh my gosh, you’re my new best friend!” This reaction got me thinking about the importance of finding new friends and a supportive tribe as we navigate midlife transformations, especially during menopause. It’s not about abandoning old friendships but seeking out those who can relate to our current journey and growth. I’ve personally experienced this need, and I’ve formed a small group of new besties who understand and support me in this phase of life. If you’re looking to build a new circle of like-minded women, reach out to me at [email protected]. Let’s create this empowering community together.
