EIGHT MINUTES - DIRGA BREATH
✅ Congratulations on completing week one of this 30-day mindfulness challenge!
Today I’m introducing you to Dirga breathing which is a basic yoga breath work technique or pranayama. Almost six minutes of this episode is an introduction, including any contraindications. If at any time you feel discomfort, gently stop the practice.
CHECK-IN: Before and after each practice I will invite you to check in and rate your stress level from 0 - 5.
0 = zero worries/stress, 5 = feeling like you're going to lose it.
MY STORY
When I began learning breath work, I had to ease into it. I didn’t realize I was breathing so shallow. Oxygenating my lungs & brain initially made me feel dizzy and anxious, which can be typical experiences when first learning deep breathing. As I continued practicing, I increased my lung capacity, I reduced my need for my inhaler (I had asthma), and I increased my overall sense of well-being.
~15 years later my asthma is gone. I also realized my asthma was triggered by stress and anxiety. Once I learned how to breathe & manage stress, my asthma disappeared. Still hard to believe!
That’s just one profound way how meditation and breath work have made a difference in my life.

Start anytime! To experience the cumulative benefits, practice daily, ideally at the same time every day. As each meditation gets longer, you can choose to follow the daily meditation or repeat a previous meditation. Choose what helps you best stick to a daily practice. If a one minute mindfulness practice feels like all you can do right now, then repeat the day one meditation for 30 days in a row. Use these episodes to best support YOUR meditation practice!
