The Kay Motsepe Schools Championship National Football Finals concluded today athe at the Bergsig Academy in Rustenburg – North West. This football championship, a beacon of hope and opportunity, has been vital in shaping the lives of countless young individuals and their schools. For two decades, it has nurtured football talent and also provided a platform for growth and exposure in other sporting codes, such as Netball, and the ABC Motsepe SA Schools Choral Eisteddfod in recent years.

Notable alumni from the Kay Motsepe Schools Championship include Mamelodi Sundowns due, Teboho Mokoena, Sipho Mbule, Orlando Pirates defender Paseka Mako and former Bafana Bafana international Hlompho Kekana, Percy Tau. The mentioned players all began their journey in this competition and have gone on to become respected and renowned footballers on the African continent.

When it comes to reaching new heights Katleho Malebana is certainly flying high. The teenager has joined Hollywoodbets Super League side University of Pretoria (Tuks) for the remainder of the season after making a move from Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies development team. 

The 15-year-old has also been selected as a Finalist in the School Sports Star of the Year category at the 2024 Momentum gsport Awards, alongside cricketer Karabo Meso and rower Danelia Price-Hughes. 

Unsurprisingly, Malebana has been garnering much interest from all corners as she makes her mark wherever she goes. Her long list of accolades has ensured that she has solidified her place as one of the top youth footballers, not just in South Africa but also on the continent.

The South African Equestrian Federation has etched a historic moment into the records of equestrian sports. For the first time ever, a South African Western Mounted Games team has been awarded Protea Colours.

The South Africa team will be competing against teams from Botswana and Zimbabwe in a TriNations Competition from 25-27 September 2024 at the National Championships, held at the Afridome in Parys. Lezanne Jacobs, LJ van der Nest, Clayton Wiggill, Mia Fourie and Wilru de Vries make up the stellar Protea team.

#SportLightInterview: Getting to know the Madibaz rowing team and their performance at the University Boat Race on the Kowie River

 The Madibaz partook in the Kowie prestigious University Boat Race in Port Alfred that begun on Thursday and concluded today, we catch up with them to see how the event went. Last year, the women’s crew finished eighth and the men ninth and the class of 2024 will be determined to go better.

Teams from around the country will take on each other in a series of time trials and head-to-head races in the annual regatta, which is considered to be one of the most important on the calendar.
