Who would be crazy enough to put a lion in a sack? The list is short, but today's episode introduces you to a man who did just that.
Today's episode gives a new meaning to the statement “it’s in the bag”. The real question is what’s in that bag? Or even better yet, "were putting what in that bag?" For anyone who is familiar with the South West hunting/cowboy culture, you know there is a different breed of Houndsmen down in that region. The men responsible for the beginning of lion studies, stocking zoo’s and even capturing the big cats that crossed the Hollywood screen. This article is all about the feeling of success when you see all your training pay off and the true definition of a good friend and hunting partner.

In this week’s segment of Shiny Objects, Ricky talks with Andrea Rothove and Sarah Honadel of Huntress View. Huntress View is a team of women hunters sharing their passion for the outdoors with other women.
Andrea has committed this year to get out of the house more. She and her friends have plans to attend several concerts throughout the Summer. Sarah’s focus for this year revolves around her rifle Bull Elk tag in Idaho. Scouting, shooting, and planning for October are among the things keeping Sarah’s mind occupied before the big day.
Andrea does social media marketing for @browningtrailcams and we discuss the quality an longevity of the the products Browing manufactures.
Ricky is reminded of a prized possession Moose antler he found in Idaho. Sarah tells a great story about her boyfriend's Moose hunt, where luck was certainly on their side. The discussion moves into the incredible size and weight that a Moose can have.
Shiny Objects is all about our current obsession. The Shiny Object could be a piece of gear, an upcoming adventure, a good book, or simply finding better ways to get through everyday life. The sky is the limit regarding an individual's current Shiny Object, and we never know where the conversation will take us.

In this episode of the Nine Finger Chronicles podcast, host Dan Johnson interviews Jon Teater from Whitetail Landscapes about habitat management for hunting properties. They discuss the importance of understanding the complex environment that deer live in and how it affects their behavior. Teater explains that the most common goal for clients is to shoot bigger quality deer, but this goal can be abstract and requires a deep understanding of the deer composition and the specific makeup of a high-quality deer. They also discuss the role of risk and pressure in deer behavior and how to create a habitat that reduces risk and holds deer on the property. Teater emphasizes the importance of good habitat and cover, as well as the balance between food availability and cover value. He also explains how to assess the carrying capacity of a property by measuring the amount of biomass consumed by deer. Jon and Dan discuss the importance of habitat improvement and deer management. They cover topics such as diverse diets for deer, equating the number of deer to be removed from a property, and the impact of deer behavior on habitat management. They also discuss the role of aesthetics in deer management and the need for a holistic approach to habitat improvement. Jon emphasizes the importance of pushing oneself to experience difficulty and learn from different environments. He also provides insights on how to choose a habitat consultant and the key factors to consider.

We’re taking about cheating. When Steve was with the registries he dealt with it on a fairly frequent basis. Determined to keep coon hunting in a positive light, he rarely wrote publicly about the subject, choosing to let the system deal with perpetrators behind the scenes. Now, unburdened by what was before, he and Corey spotlight the pencil crooks, the blind voters, the dog pitchers and catchers, and the movers and switchers in a sport that was built, and owes its very survival to the premise that honor belongs to whom honor is due.
You’ll enjoy this eye-opening look at the sport behind the scenes and, believe it or not, may come away feeling better about it in the process. There’s no substitute, no better remedy, for correcting the ills of dishonesty in competition than a good working knowledge of the rules of the game by all participants. The problems and solutions of keeping a level field are all here in this episode. We not only see the elephant in this episode, we skin it out and tack its hide to the wall.

Thomas Hoke, owner and host of Hoke Outdoors, joins Brian Halbleib on the show. Thomas was introduced to the outdoors by his father while growing up in Virginia. We discuss his transformation from deer and turkey hunter to becoming obsessed with waterfowl. We talk about the diversity of waterfowl hunting across Virginia, the challenges of hunting the Atlantic Flyway and some tactics for scouting and hunting the region.
