  • Hound Dog Network - Gone To The Dogs

In this episode Steve is joined by bear hunter Wes Woodyard of Narrows, Virginia to roast, if somewhat mildly, their mutual friend, professional trainer and Double U Hunting Supply podcast personality Heath Hyatt.

Wes and Steve have known and have made many hunts with Heath over several years. It was on a Freedom Hunter’s Adventure with Heath that Steve and Wes became well-acquainted. This week the two come together to discuss some “Hyatt-style Adventures” that adequately spill the beans on the professional trainer. Woodyard credits Heath with bringing him into the hound sport and when he asked for the opportunity to give credit where credit is due on a podcast, Steve was glad to comply. The episode illustrates the importance of mentoring new hunters into the sport.

This is a feel-good episode that just goes to show that while bringing someone into the sport isn’t always easy, it can pay big dividends.  Woodyard, formed in the Hyatt mold, is an extreme hound hunter that never shirks the hard stuff when it comes to hunting and harvesting black bears. Every hunting party needs one like Wes. You’ll enjoy this one.

  • Michigan Wild - Shooting Does is a Commitment

On this episode of Michigan Wild, Elliot Hubbard joins Nate to dive into all things deer hunting in Michigan. Elliot has been an avid Michigan hunter for years and Nate has paid attention to Elliot's posts on Facebook forums and was excited to get him on. Nate's also enjoyed the different perspectives and passion Elliot's shown towards habitat and deer herd improvements.

After getting a backstory on Elliot's upbringing the conversation turns to adequate doe harvest. Nate's curiosity about crop damage permits and how that may pertain to herd health and dynamics was discussed. SInce Elliot has participated in filling multiple crop damage tags over the years he gives some great insight on the challenges that farmers face and the importance of a healthy balance. Discussion about all the crop damage leads the guys into talking about the significance of shooting enough does in Michigan, and how we as hunters are struggling to do what's necessary to help control the population. Nate and Eliiot both agree that we must do our due diligence as hunters and have to improve.

Rounding out the conversation Nate brings up a podcast (Outdoor Drive) that Elliot's wife was a part of. She was a member of the DMI for the lower peninsula and recounts her part of the whole process. Overall it was very concerning how everything transpired and unfortunately this has been a common theme with the NRC.

  • Oklahoma Outdoors - A Newfoundland Dream Moose Hunt

If you could go on any hunt in the world, what would it be? When Andrew Kobe asked himself that question, he knew there was only one answer. That question is what led him to some of the most remote country in North America in search of one of the planet's largest mammals, a moose. This week on the Oklahoma Outdoors Podcast, John and Andrew discuss what all goes into a dream hunt such as this one. The guys start out by talking about how to find a reputable and trustworthy outfitter, no matter what game species you are wanting to chase.

Andrew also lays out the process of packing and traveling with a week's worth of gear and a firearm to another country. The United States part of it was not that difficult, but when he landed in Canada, they were not so easy. He also talks about the type of gear needed for a hunt like this, and some of the things that made his trip more enjoyable. Andrew also talks about the hunt itself, and what it took to get a fully grown moose worth of meat back to his freezer at home.

    • Hunting Gear Podcast - New REVEAL Trail Cameras

In this episode of the Hunting Gear Podcast, host Dan Johnson interviews Gregg Farrell from Tactacam about their new camera, Reveal. They discuss the company's history, the current rain situation in Wisconsin, and their personal hunting plans for the year. They then dive into the details of Tactacam's transition from action cameras to trail cameras, focusing on the reliability and ease of use of their products. They also talk about the evolution of trail cameras and the importance of not over-engineering them. Finally, they discuss the specific features and differences between the Reveal X 2.0 and Reveal X 3.0 models. The Tactacam 3.0 cameras have been redesigned from the ground up, with improvements in form factor and antenna design. The new antennas are mounted on the top of the camera and have a two-position pivot, allowing for better transport and positioning. The external antennas are necessary because the areas where the cameras are hung typically have poor cell service, and the antennas maximize signal strength. The new cameras also feature high-quality 4K photos and 1080p videos, improved image sensors for fewer false triggers, and an internal storage option that eliminates the need for SD cards. The cameras are more efficient with batteries and are priced the same as the previous models. Future updates include new accessories and an app update that will simplify the user experience.

      Takeaways:

      • Tactacam started as a company producing point of view cameras before transitioning to trail cameras with their Reveal line.
      • The company focuses on building reliable trail cameras and providing excellent customer service.
      • The Reveal cameras are designed to be easy to use, with a simple setup process and an intuitive app interface.
      • Tactacam aims to strike a balance between incorporating new technology trends and maintaining ease of use for customers.
      • The Reveal X 2.0 and Reveal X 3.0 models offer different features and capabilities, providing options for different user preferences. The Tactacam 3.0 cameras have been redesigned with improvements in form factor and antenna design.
