In this, the second episode about tree dogs, the boys are dealing with problems that occur at the tree. Everything from tree jacking to chewing to guarding the tree are discussed in detail.
In their years of experience with tree dogs of all types, the pair has experienced and have attempted to correct all manner of issues that make what should be the sublime experience of walking up and seeing game in the tree at the end of the trail, a stressful and often worrisome experience for the hunter.
The episode is ripe with common sense approaches to dealing with tree problems and is a program most any tree dog enthusiast will appreciate even if they don’t recall as personal experiences. Admittedly, there may be more problems identified than resolved in this issue with a promise of more solutions to come. Tree problems are complex and the hosts don’t take them lightly, being careful to present only useful, commonsense remedies.
Prepare to hear discussions on milling at the tree, dogs that become jealous at the tree and dogs that become hunt sour after entering too many competitions. There’s a lot of information packed in this issue and it’s all intended to make the experience of hunting game with tree dogs more enjoyable. There is also an admonishment that if the listener is afraid to correct problems at the tree, he or she may well need to find another dog or at the extreme, another sport.

Joining Nate Rozeveld this week on MIchigan Wild is Cam Carpenter. Cam is 18 years old and has found a ton of success hunting in his home state of Michigan. Cam has had the opportunity to kill and hunt some giant deer in the mitten state, including a buck in the 180s when he was only 13 years old. Even with tremendous success at a young age Cam has stayed engaged with hunting and his passion for the outdoors is ever present. Something that is refreshing to hear for Nate as he has tried managing getting his son involved in hunting at such a young age as well.
Cam talks about his success and gives all the credit to his father, family friends, and great neighbors. He expresses that he feels the only reason these big deer exist is because so many neighbors are on the same page with trigger control and doe harvest. Nate couldn't agree more because he has seen and witnessed the outcome of passing deer along with neighbors which allows deer in Michigan to reach an older age structure.
The guys also break down Cam's turkey season. He found some success early on in the season, by getting a double with his good buddy. He was also able to chase after turkeys with some close friends that led to missed opportunities and memories that will last forever.
Thank you Cam for hoping on Michigan Wild!

The south heads north this week on the Oklahoma Outdoors Podcast as John chats with his buddy Nate Rozeveld from Michigan. Nate is the host of the Michigan Wild Podcast on the Sportemen's Empire and recently came down to join John on an Oklahoma hog hunt. John and Nate cover a variety of topics including how social media may have actually improved Michigan deer hunting for the better. John asks Nate about his thoughts on one of John's favorite topics, the one buck vs two buck debate. Nate also explains Michigan's varied landscape including the famous "U.P." or upper peninsula.
Being a podcast host himself, Nate does a great job of turning the tables and asking John a few questions about his property and hunting in Oklahoma. After seeing John's property this spring, he had some questions about how John sets up and hunts his family cattle ranch. The guys also talk about if you can have "too many mature bucks" on a property and ways you can prevent that from happening.

Today's story may be from the February 1966 issue of Full Cry, but is just as relevant today as it was back then.
"Let me take him home” is a great representation of a houndsman’s heart. Even when surrounded by evil in the big city, a country boy has the courage to stand up and take on an angry mob to defend one of his own kind. While those that do not understand our way of life cry for blood, this young man goes to blows to protect a veteran coondog that is as misplaced in the city as himself. Though he has never seen this particular dog before it is clear he “knows” him and his kind. This young man was willing to put his life on the line against the mob to give the respect and decency that this old hound deserves. Our world would be a lot better if everyone could see through this young man’s eyes.
