On this episode of The Nomadic Outdoorsman, Dan talks with his cousin Sam Maedke about his growing obsession with the wild turkey.
Sam grew up in the woods of Wisconsin as part of the orange army. Over the years his passions have changed from whitetail to waterfowl and now to spring gobblers. Dan and Sam discuss the transition of obsessions and Sam begins to share stories of success and tradition from his 2024 turkey season. Sam even tries to reprimand Dan for treasonous talk about turkeys.

On this week's episode of the Pennsylvania Woodsman, Mitch is joined by good friend Jason Miller from JMiller Custom Calls. Between Mitch, Jason, and their hunting buddies, a lot of successful turkey hunts unfolded in multiple states. This season was one that just seemed to always work out in favor of the hunter. We discuss the hunts that transpired in April during New Jersey and Maryland's opening week of season, and lead into the Pennsylvania season.
Both Mitch and Jason harvested a turkey in PA on the first two days of the season. From there, each of them were able to travel all throughout the state of PA and find more turkeys. We discuss how the location, hunting pressures, and time of season all influenced the decisions made during the hunt. The guys refer to some of the different turkey calls that Jason makes used in these hunts. Jason's calls have played a major role in the success in these hunts. Make sure you are on the lookout for the new website JMillerCustomCalls.com and get your calls for next season!

The current series is focusing on prep for a western elk hunt. Last week, Jacob pivoted to examining hunt systems for this type of hunt. In today's episode, Jacob examines two hunt systems that are often thought of last minute or poorly planned out. How does one take care of meat in the backcountry? And, what should a backcountry first aid kit be compromised of? Both of which are important aspects of planning your trek to the west for your own hunt.

In this episode of the Antler Up Podcast, host Jeremy Dinsmore is joined by guest Ty Forbes out of Massachusetts. In this episode, join Jeremy and Ty for an in-depth conversation on hunting strategies and personal growth. Ty opens up about the profound impact that reconnecting with his father has had on his hunting journey and life. The episode delves into how observing and learning from experienced mentors have been instrumental to Ty’s success.
Listeners will gain valuable tips on securing permission to hunt on private properties, especially in suburban areas. Ty shares his aggressive hunting strategies, such as locating bedding areas and making bold moves in the field. He emphasizes the importance of respecting other hunters’ territories to foster a cooperative hunting community.
Ty also highlights the critical role of early scouting and setup, particularly during January and February, to prepare for a successful deer hunting season. He discusses the importance of identifying prime locations by looking for deer sign, freshening scrapes, and pinpointing bedding areas. Ty’s advice on moving slowly and quietly to avoid spooking deer and the importance of taking calculated risks for greater success is invaluable.
Beyond the technical aspects of hunting, Ty and Jeremy celebrate the joy of creating memories and enjoying the experience, regardless of the size of the deer harvested. This episode is for hunters of all levels, blending practical advice with the deeper, more personal aspects of the hunting tradition.
So, grab your gear, sit back, and join us on this episode as we Antler Up with Ty on today's episode of the Antler Up Podcast.

On this episode of the Nine Finger Chronicles, Dan breaks down what he looks for in hunting spots while e-scouting public land. Recently, Dan found out that he finally drew a Kansas archery tag. He has never hunted Kansas, so he is starting from scratch when it comes to finding places to hunt. Because this is an out of state hunt, Dan is going to rely heavily on using digital maps to e-scout the public properties before he hunts them. You will hear what specific terrain features he is looking for, how may points of access he would like those properties to have, and one of the biggest contributing factors... food sources.

This week on the Missouri Woods & Water Podcast Micah & Andy fumbled around with the equipment long enough to hit record without Nate helping them to get a show recorded for y'all. We have our buddies Pat and Garin on to talk about their recent good fortune in drawing a very sought after New Mexico elk tag for the upcoming season. Congrats and good luck to our buddies and thanks for listening!
