Only one week to go! At long last, turkey season is nearly here and that means early mornings, the sweet smell of spring air, gobbling turkeys, and for many of us, a good bit of confusion to go along with it. Turkeys do weird things every year and many of us will find ourselves scratching our heads and texting a buddy for advice when the birds don't cooperate.
This week, we're hoping to save you a few of those texts as Pierce hops on the line with Matt Streim from Weathered Oaks Game Calls, to answer the age old question: "What would you do?" The guys kick things off by going over the various sounds that turkeys make, how they interpret them, and then run through a whole mess of scenarios that many of us will find ourselves in throughout the coming weeks, and break down how they'd set up, call, and think about each one. It's a fun episode with a lot of great tips that we're sure you'll be able to put to use this Spring.

On this episode of the Hunting Gear Deals Series on The Hunting Gear Podcast, Camron talks with Mike from HECS to discuss one of the most unique hunting products on the market. HECS makes hunting clothing that is designed to block your bioelectric signature, which helps keep you concealed from animals.
Mike is the owner and founder of HECS and does an amazing job explaining how animals use electromagnetic patterns to aid in their survival, and how HECS prevents them from being able to detect a human's bioelectric signature. This is one product that I'll have to put to the test this season!

On this episode of GOHUNT’s Western Rookie Podcast, Brian shares how to plan a western hunt by walking through an example mule deer hunt step-by-step!
Hunting the west can be a little confusing, especially for first time western big game hunters – each state has a different tag application process, you’ll find some people saying an area is great while others say it’s the worst place ever, and even once you do pick a unit you still have to find a place to actually hunt and make a game plan. In this episode, Brian breaks down planning a rifle mule deer hunt step by step from picking a state all the way to picking an opening day glassing point and hunting plan. If you are just getting into western hunting, this is the episode for you!

In this weeks segment of Shiny Objects, Matt discusses a couple of upcoming trips, both for Turkey Hunting and a vacation with his new bride. Hollywood is deep into a new read titled The Warrior Poet Way by John Lovell, which claims to be the manual on how to become a dangerous - and good - man. Meanwhile Ricky started reading Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand. A incredible story of perseverance, in the midst of being marrooned on the pacific ocean for over 40 days and later tortured in a Japanese POW Camp during World War II.
Shiny Objects is all about our current obsession. The Shiny Object could be a piece of gear, an upcoming adventure, a good book, or simply finding better ways to get through everyday life. This week on the Oklahoma Outdoors Podcast, John is joined by fellow Sportsmens Empire podcast hosts Nick Otto and Nate Rozeveld. This podcast was recorded as Nick and Nate were driving down from Michigan to Oklahoma for a few days of exciting hog hunting action. The Michiganders were loaded down with firepower and coolers and ready to take on whatever may come their way. Nick was able to come down and hunt with John in 2023, but this was Nate's first trip down to hunt hogs.
The guys talk about some of the stereotypes around hogs like the crazy population numbers and how tough the animals are. They also have a discussion about different firearms and calibers that are used to hunt wild pigs. Nick voices his goal of changing the negative perception hogs have at the dinner table, and vows to change the minds of Oklahomas and others about what a great gift these tasty creatures can be if taken advantage of.
Don't forget to check out Nick (The Huntavore) and Nates (Michigan WIld) podcasts also available on the Sportsmens Empire Podcast Network!

The boys are baking their bones by the stove again in this episode that covers everything from cross-bred bulldogs to the UKC Tournament of Champions.
Steve is on the road for a couple of weeks to New Jersey for family time and some fly fishing. The only dogs he’ll see is the daughter’s hound/pit bull mix and the family Dachshund Louie who accompanies Ella everywhere. But the combined efforts of Ma Bell and Al Gore provide the opportunity to keep Gone To The Dogs on schedule while on the long and winding road.
The boys discuss the format, breed breakdowns and the ambiance that makes the TOC the premier coonhound event that it is, an event that boasts a purse of $250,000 distributed among winners at the finals held on the weekend following the airing of this episode. The overall winner captures $50 grand! Who would have thunk it?
Things get interesting, even humorous, when the boys throw another chunk in the stove to discuss recent posts on the Coon Hunting Conversations Facebook group page. Moving stud dogs around the country, deep-and-lonely dogs being born that way or manmade and what is seemingly causing smaller heads in some coonhounds. It’s all here and as the cliched phrase admonishes, “You won’t want to miss this one.” Heck, we don’t want you to miss any of them. Give that log a little more air, son.
