“Mercy, grace, and loving kindness are the essence of God, and Jesus is the face of God in our midst. If we recognize this as the blind men did in Matthew’s gospel, the recognition of God’s essence will make us bold to approach Jesus in our need in faith that He will provide for us, heal us, and love us, giving us the capacity to see in ourselves these same attributes.” Br. Jim Woodrum urges us to be bold to approach God in humility and faith, confident that Jesus has provided, healed, and loved us to wholeness.

“Gazing not at Christ’s first coming in our midst but straining toward the horizon for his second coming we enter into this season of preparation. But, Advent preparation is not just about planning a party towards the end of December. The expectant waiting and preparation of Advent is time to do the soul’s work of conditioning for ultimate things, because eternity is on the horizon.” As we crest into Advent, Br. Todd Blackham urges us to accept the reality of our radical dependence on the love of God, the only foundation that will endure.

The season of Advent interposes quite an opposite theme. Anticipating Christmas is not about immediacy. Rather, it is about watching, and waiting, and preparing to celebrate Christ’s infant birth at Bethlehem, and to prepare for Christ’s promise that he will come again in real time.” On the first day of Advent, the season of preparation, Br. Curtis Almquist shares inspiration for how we might experience and share Christ's light – even in the darkness.

“God comes to us where we are. God’s call meets us in the concrete realities of life. Not where we think we should be; but where we actually are. And if we hold our vocational aspirations lightly, I believe that, like Blessed Elizabeth of Hungary, our treasure too will be where our heart is.”

Br. Sean Glenn examines the surprising tension that can arise between our imagined vocation and the actual shape that it takes in the concrete realities of life.

For it is ultimately the unbreakable bond of love which lifts us above both time and space, and into the very life of God.” On All Souls Day, Br.
