  • Will Santa Visit the Saints This Season? And Happy Birthday to Lee!

Jake and Lee are back once again and they have a lot to talk about following a very good week of results.  The duo kick start the episode by reflecting upon the 3-3 draw with Oxford City and the 1-0 win away at Weymouth on Saturday (21st December).

They then take a look back at some of their favourite away grounds, along with a couple that they aren’t so positive about. Our hosts then wrap things up with a look at the upcoming games against local rivals Hemel Hempstead Town, league leaders Wealdstone and Hungerford Town over the Christmas period.

A Podful of Saints is back once again to talk all things St Albans City and our hosts Jake and Lee kick-start the episode by dissecting another draw for the boys in yellow and blue, this one against Hampton & Richmond Borough at Clarence Park

Our dynamic duo then explore the impact that the professional game has had on non-league and the National League South, particularly in regards to players both dropping down the divisions and also being purchased by Football League sides.

  • From Clarets to Beavers, via a Stroll Down Memory Lane

Lee Wood and Jake Ellacott are back once again and there is plenty to talk about following another improved performance from the Saints. The duo reflect upon the 1-1 draw with Chelmsford City and wonder whether things are finally looking up for the boys in yellow and blue.

Our hosts then take another trip down memory lane as they reflect upon their top three St Albans City moments and there’s a couple of unexpected choices.

This week’s episode finishes off with a preview of the upcoming game against Hampton & Richmond Borough, which promises to be another tough test for the Saints.

  • Time To Turn Things Around? Touch Wood!

Hosts Jake Ellacott and Lee Wood return from a mid-season break to discuss defeats in successive weeks for the Saints against Tonbridge Angels and Welling United.

The duo take a look at the sacking of assistant manager Glen Alzapiedi and the appointment of his successor Chris Winton, and ask whether the new man can make the changes that could turn around the club’s campaign.

However, it’s not all about the 2019-20 season this week as Jake and Lee take a break from the serious stuff to discuss their all time Saints XI. We would love to hear your thoughts on it!

Finally, the pair assess the chances of the Saints picking up a result against Chelmsford City this coming Saturday in our usual game preview.

  • To Have And Havant…

Following a victory at Welling United the previous weekend, St Albans City returned to losing ways on Saturday (2nd November) with a defeat to title chasing Havant & Waterlooville at Clarence Park. Host podsters Jake and Dave will pick their way through that game before getting stuck into what else happened in National League South at the weekend.

Billericay Town’s pitch was turned into a race track by vandals and the duo will see what is going on there along with a number of other clubs in the Division that have experienced off-pitch problems in recent weeks. A Podful of Saints no.16 will also review City’s Herts Senior Cup tie against Bishop’s Stortford (5th) before putting the cat out for another week.

There’s a fair chance that the cost of admission to matches at Clarence Park could also get a mention.

Dave Tavener has a YouTube channel where you can see all of the St Albans City match highlights and post-match interviews with the City Manager. You can find the channel here https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBmfQhBp8QCY8_zIVXGCuTA

  • Running Up That Hill

In episode 15 of A Podful of Saints our two Podsters from Clarence Park, Jake and Dave, get to reflect on a good week for St Albans City that saw Ian Allinson’s side draw at Hemel Hempstead Town in the Herts Charity Cup and then win at Welling United in the National League South. A round-up of news from the League will include a look at the growing number of managers currently looking for a new job. The guest on the show this week is Michael Hill, who oversees the running of the Club website and was co-founder of the supporters group Stand By Your Saints. Michael may not quite be in the class of City greats from down the years but his family roots are steeped in football history. There will also be a certain amount of self-congratulatory back slapping after Jake correctly predicted the outcome of the Hemel match…that is now two correct predictions in 19 games.

  • A Clean Sheet For The Goalkeeper Shirt?

Episode 14 of A Podful of Saints sees podsters Jake and Dave steer the ship in a different direction from usual, as a specially extended edition features a lengthy conversation with acclaimed local sports writer and journalist Ian Ridley.

Ian, in addition to tracing his life as a writer and the early days as a player, looks back in detail at his two spells at St Albans City and his time with Weymouth and Salisbury. The former Saints chairman also shares his thoughts on the current situation at Clarence Park and his hopes for the future.

Prior to chatting with Ian there will be one usual feature with Jake and Dave reviewing the Saints most recent match, this time at home to Bath City on 19th October. There will also be a short preview of Tuesday’s (22nd October) Herts Charity Cup tie at Hemel Hempstead Town and next Saturday’s (26th October) National League South game at Welling United.

  • Pod Sub Keeper Edition

Our A Podful of Saints podcast duo of Jake and Dave have to be on their best behaviour this week, as they are joined by landlords’ staff member, and Sports Reporter, Neil Metcalfe for an extended edition of the show.

Neil will be pressed hard to give details of how a Spurs-loving Geordie came to be on the sports desk of the Herts Advertiser. There will also be all the usual features; such as reviewing a defeat for St Albans City, rounding up other National League South news, previewing City’s match against Bath City on Saturday 19th October (Clarence Park, 3pm) and, of course, an incorrect guess for the predictor machine.

  • The 12th Man

Plenty for our resident St Albans City podders, Jake & Dave, to get their teeth stuck into in episode 12 of A Podful of Saints as Ian Allinson’s boys are swept out the FA Cup most emphatically by Weymouth. Once they’ve pondered City’s cup demise at the Bob Lucas Stadium the two podsters will see how the remaining National League South sides coped in the FA Cup on Saturday.

There were no league games at the weekend (5th October) but there is some transfer news to catch up on followed by a preview of this coming Saturday’s (12th) home league encounter with fellow strugglers Eastbourne Borough. Jake will run through all of the exciting topics the club has lined up for the weekend in an effort to entice absent supporters back to Clarence Park for a game that could have a significant bearing on how the rest of the season pans out. Relegation is not one of the topics.

After a slender 4-0 defeat for St Albans City on Saturday, podders Jake and Dave will look back at events at Maidstone United’s Gallagher Stadium along with an update of what else is happening in National League South. This coming Saturday, 5th October, the Saints are away to Weymouth in the 3rd Round Qualifying of the FA Cup and our Podful of Saints duo will preview that match along with introducing a new feature, ‘Ex-Saint of the Week.’ First up in this exciting series is Colchester United’s Jevani Brown.
