  • Because We’re Worth(ing) It!

A Podful of Saints reaches episode ten this week but celebrations are likely to be muted in the Pod as Jake and Dave mull over St Albans City’s draw at home to lower league Worthing in the FA Cup on Saturday. Before previewing Tuesday night’s (24th September) replay down on the south coast at Woodside Road the two podders will try not to be smug when looking at how the other National League South sides fared in the Cup at the weekend. Hemel Hempstead Town’s shock defeat at Beaconsfield Town is unlikely to escape going unnoticed.

  • Return Of The Wood

Jake and Dave will have to Pod carefully this week as the ninth episode of A Podful of Saints reviews St Albans City’s crushing 4-1 defeat to Weymouth at the weekend. Moving on from that delicate matter the duo, assisted manfully by Lee Wood, will then tackle matters elsewhere in National League South including the end of Harry Wheeler’s reign at Billericay Town.

Lee takes on the position of guest in the third segment of the show when he will face a grilling over the role of one of the two supporters’ organisations at Clarence Park, Stand By Your Saints, of which he is chairman.

The Saints are in FA Cup action this coming Saturday, 21st September, with the visit of Worthing to Clarence Park. The trio of podsters ponder what lies ahead on the big day.

  • From Hungerford to Weymouth, with a Pac(K)-Man in the Middle

A trip into deepest Berkshire proved productive for St Albans City on Saturday (7th September) and gave Jake and Dave a welcome victory to discuss in episode eight of A Podful of Saints. The delving duo also look back on City’s defeat to Wealdstone earlier in the week as well at taking a peek at what else is happening in National League South. Picking up on a comment by City Manager Ian Allinson following the win at Hungerford Town the two podders will take a look at City matches refereed by Jack Packman and they will finish off with a look forward to Saturday’s (14th September) game with Weymouth at Clarence Park and wheel out Jake’s Predictor Machine.

  • These Boys Don’t Slough-ch!

For episode seven of A Podful of Saints our roving podding pair of Jake and Dave will be taking a look back on St Albans City’s draw at Slough Town on Saturday (31 st August) and weighing up the Saints chances in forthcoming matches against table topping Wealdstone, (3rd September, at Clarence Park, kick off 7.45pm) and at bottom dogs Hungerford Town (7th September, at Bulpit Lane, kick off 3pm).

There will also be a review of what else went on in National League South over the weekend along with a preview of this week’s matches on distant fields. Blocking and banning issues at Clarence Park have hit the headlines recently, the duo will tackle those matters and also pay tribute to City’s joint-Club Historian Peter Taylor who sadly passed away suddenly on 27th August.

  • Can’t See The Wood for The Trees…

“Do you know who would cover for Jake this week?”

“Lee Wood”  (Say it out loud a few times for full comedic value)

With Jake taking a well-earned (so he says)break from broadcasting to the nation Dave is joined in the studio by fellow life-long St Albans City supporter Lee Wood.
Included in episode five of A Podful of Saints will be the usual features such as a review of the Saints recent games, a look at life elsewhere in National League South and a preview of City’s two games over the Bank Holiday weekend.
With Lee having spent almost 25 years designing football programmes and running his own business, the duo will look at what the future holds for the much-loved football matchday programme. Lee will also talk through the pressure of turning around copy in time when 15 of his clubs are at home in the same week. An old friend will be welcomed into the studio in the shape of former City secretary Tom Norman. Tom now fills the same role at county rivals Stevenage. • Have The Saints Had Their Chips?

In the third edition of A Podful of Saints our resident hosts from Clarence Park, Jake Ellacott and Dave Tavener, take a look back at how well, or otherwise, St Albans City coped on the opening day of the National League South season at home to Chippenham Town. They will also cast a beady eye over other goings-on within the League over weekend and then ponder how Ian Allinson’s boys will bring back six points from the first away games of the season at Dartford (6th August) and Dulwich Hamlet (10th August).

Did Club owner Lawrence Levy win over the fans as he outlined the reasons behind the large rises in admission fees at Clarence Park at the Fans’ Forum on 1st August? The duo give their verdict on that evening and also discuss the problems that the football club, and other sports users, are encountering due to new parking restrictions put in place around Clarence Park earlier this year.
