  • Sabbath and Redemption - May 29 - Seventh Sunday of Easter
In the book of Deuteronomy God commands his people to rest one day a week
because they had been slaves in Egypt and he wants them to be free from a
production-based slavery system designed to own and control them. And by learning to
observe Sabbath, we too can experience the God-given freedom from being owned by
money, work, and materialism, and find our acceptance in his love for us in Jesus.

  • Ascension - May 22 - The Ascension of Our Lord
Jesus' ascension doesn't mean that he's no longer here; instead, Paul
insists in his letter to the Ephesians that it means he now fills all things. In
other words, Jesus can now be everywhere where his word is preached, his sacraments
are celebrated, and his people are gathered in his name.

  • Sabbath and Creation - May 15 - Fifth Sunday of Easter
God, by resting and enjoying his good work, has built the pattern of work
and Sabbath rest into his creation. By faithfully observing God's command to cease
from work, we learn to trust him and lean on him to provide for us; in other words,
to learn how to live in our justification by faith.

  • Baptism and the Three Solas - May 8 - Fourth Sunday of Easter
Many evangelicals feel that the Lutheran doctrine of baptismal regeneration
is a betrayal of the great Reformational themes of salvation by grace through faith

actually the guarantee of the Three Solas.

  • The Climax of the Story - Apr 14 - Holy Thursday
The main redemptive event of the Old Testament is the story of the Exodus,
and when Jesus goes to Jerusalem to take over the kingdom of the world by dying and
rising from the dead he intentionally does so on Passover - the Jewish celebration
of the Exodus event. And by doing so Jesus brings to completion the great biblical
story of release from slavery, vindication of God's glory, destruction of His
enemies, and universal forgiveness of sins.
