I had the opportunity to meet David through work, and upon witnessing how hard not only himself but also his fiance Imani work, well, I knew I had to invite them on the show. Imani is the CEO and owner of Platinum Prop Rentals among many other ventures. We get into how covid affected their business, and their attitude towards setting goals and positioning themselves for future success. Business, real estate, vending machines, work ethic, we cover it all and more. Imani, David, thanks guys. Sean Starnes is a good friend I've known for many years. Sean was set to visit SoCal and I knew we had to catch up. This is that conversation. We talk about his home in Bend Oregon and his new venture (44 Northwest) in residential design-build construction. He reveals some hard lessons he's learned in the past and some key habits that he implements into his every-day life to better himself for future success. We banter about why I should purchase property in Bend and some of the sacrifices he's made in his life to further his entrepreneur outlook lifestyle. Thanks Sean. Always a pleasure Bud.
Nadia Ruiz is a personal coach who's list of accomplishments are nothing short of impressive. Nadia is the the youngest latina to achieve 100 marathons, 146 in total, has traveled to 27 countries, is a UCLA grad, and plenty more. We not only discuss her many achievements, but also look back on her life as well to get a better understanding of her success and personal drive. We get into the mental side of marathon running, and fitness in general. We chat about the overlooked value of self reflection and the benefits one can yield. Brilliant attitude towards life Nadia. "Big John" is an individual that was raised in the city of Los Angeles in what could be described as a "dysfunctional" atmosphere. We discuss his rise from selling drugs, to becoming a union electrician, to ultimately climbing to superintendent. We get into the very divisive subject of the black community and the surrounding culture. We discuss the value of giving back to your community and why it's so paramount. I ask for Big John's thoughts on the craziness of today and we get into the importance of an honest conversation. Thanks for THIS honest conversation John, and the many brilliant perspectives you provided both on this show, and off.
A Tuesday night with awesome friends. David, Eric, and Damasio join the show to talk new-year-resolutions and life in general. The men we wish to become come December 2021 and what we will have to change to get there. I propose a tactic I've been using to keep my spending and diet in check while also having the opportunity to pay it forward. We get into Covid a bit at the end, and naturally, there are some fun dating stories sprinkled throughout. Thanks boys. Life is so rad.
Episode #66 brings to the show the always generous and humble Lisa Hoffa. She's also my mom. We visit the topic of who I am now, as well as in every chapter of my life. What was I like as a young boy, through my teen years, early adulthood, and what to pursue looking forward. We get into some concerns she's had for me, and also what strengths she feels I possess and what she finds pride in her son. Yes, there are embarrassing stories. Always a treat mom, thanks! For her story, as well as my father's, check out episode #17.
The year 2020 was an interesting one for all of us. On this episode, I take a look back on how mine played out. I get into the lows and the highs and everything in between. I tell my experience of being a foreman electrician for the new Sofi Stadium and the many lessons I learned with that. I explain why I decided to start the podcast up again and why I was DONE with waiting to move my life forward. For me, 2020 was an incredible year in many metrics. I was challenged heavily, I felt uncomfortable for the majority of it, and yet I wouldn't change a thing. Excited for what's to come!
Victor Martinez is a foreman I had in the past as an apprentice electrician. Having not been in contact with each other for a few years, I reached out to catch up on the show and talk life. We discuss the value of voicing your appreciation with not only words, but also the actions you take to your crew and those you surround yourself with. We talk leadership in general and the divisiveness in today's covid-craziness.
I invite my good friends Kortney Kindig and Will Small back on the show to discuss a very lengthy and interesting, to say the least, message I received in the middle of the night from an old Tinder date I had 3 years ago. We break it down and discuss all possible angles and outcomes. I then delve into some drama that ensued when camping for thanksgiving weekend. "No" means "No" right ladies? I had so many honest and genuine laughs on this show. Always a blast with these two! Follow the show on Insta @standingstillpodcast
Amanda Small is a behavioral therapist that works directly with children, as well parents. She's also, an old friend. We sat down for a mellow conversation regarding the beginning of this new career of hers. I would argue few individuals are fit to excel at such a challenging career. We broke down why she decided this career path was something for her to pursue and what she's discovered her strengths really are. We talked insecurities and self doubt, and why sometimes, children do an excellent job at reminding us not to sweat the small stuff.
