Star Wars Splash Page

After months of hype and promotion, a one shot followed by four prelude issues, the War of the Bounty Hunters is here as the first of the five-issue mini-series drops what may arguably be the biggest bombshell in Star Wars comics.

The 36-page issue by Charles Soule, Luke Ross, Neeraj Menon and Travis Lanham careens across the galaxy, enveloping and ensnaring a host of familiar faces -- some not seen for awhile -- in a gripping story that holds no punches and leaves no one unscathed.

In news, we talk about Marvel's planned The High Republic mini-series "The Trail of Shadows," along with the one-week delay in IDW's The High Republic Adventures #5.

The Nihil. The Drengir. The Hutts. The High Republic #5 has enough action and story that it feels like a double issue, yet it's not.

Exegol. Darth Vader makes his stand against Palpatine and the stakes couldn't be higher. Though we know how it all eventually will come to pass, that does nothing to deter from the fast-paced, dark-plumbed story that envelops madness, hubris and redemption in the pages of Darth Vader #11.

In news, Andrew Winegarner has completed his fan adaption of the leaked script for "Duel of the Fates" (https://bit.ly/3xxVcH2) and it's a great read from start to finish.

Doctor Aphra and Sana Starros come one step closer to finding out just what kind of technology is being employed in a revolutionary drive (Hello, Nihil!) and Domina Tagge isn't about to let some upstart undo all of her hard-won Imperial contracts.

It's a showdown, with Vukorah dead center, as commerce, espionage and, gasp, saving lives (even the Rebellion) start to collide and combine in the pages of Doctor Aphra (Vol. 2) #9.

In news, Heather Antos is returning to Star Wars as a new senior editor at IDW, while the War of the Bounty Hunters is setting itself up to be a rather extensive summerlong event. Speaking of which, the number of variants for May 5's War of the Bounty Hunters Alpha #1 one-shot is growing ever larger. Want to track down a particular cover by a particular artist for sale by a particular store? Visit Fantha Tracks (https://bit.ly/32y7xwU) or Jedi Bibliothek (https://bit.ly/2RIu1c8) to see the latest covers and spend that money.

We also break down the move to make The High Republic: The Monster of Temple Peak a four-issue mini-series from IDW instead of a graphic novel (though it will be collected as a trade so there's your graphic novel).

No new Star Wars comics out this week, yet that doesn't mean we've got nothing to discuss.

This week's episode is an interview with Andrew Winegarner who took it upon himself to adapt the leaked script for Star Wars IX by dismissed director Colin Trevorrow and writer Derek Connolly. Winegarner hasn't held back, delivering six issues of the seven-issue adaptation (the final issue is on its way), telling a story that feels natural and, as Jeff put it, "very much like a Star Wars story."

The comic can be read online (https://bit.ly/39subuu) and its time well spent. You can find out more about Winegarner or follow him on Twitter (https://bit.ly/3czRmoo).
