I love the music and the community and want to share the music that moves me with like-minded people. There’s something about the energy and vibe of the music that my brain is wired for, it just makes sense to me. I belong here. We all do. I created this Techno mix with tracks from Christian Smith, Filterheadz, D. Dan, Hadone, Yan Cook. I chose a higher tempo than I usually play out live, sort of a testing-the-waters experiment as I’d love to try this style at an event in the future.

Starlight Thursdays 159 Featuring Luna Bear. 3 years ago a friend of his with a set of old CDJs offered him the opportunity to learn and the rest was history. Although known for his ability to widely span many different genres, Luna Bear’s love for halftime deep dub and bass music are what keep driving him forward and further into the industry. As the owner/founder of Ubuntu Productions based out of Billings, MT he is always hosting local events, and is regularly involved with other local and regional events as well. He’s also been playing a monthly Ecstatic Dance event for over a year now at Studio Soul in Billings. He’s played a handful of events for Foundation Entertainment and Music Lives Here in Bozeman, MT as well as sharing the stage with local and regional artists including Beautiful Existence, DAWge, ET3, Danktech, and more. In the infancy of his own personal journey as an electronic producer, he looks forward to learning even more about the industry and creating his own music.

A few words from Luna Bear.

I’ve been in the music world for most of my life, but DJing was the first musical art that gave me full control over all the different things and ideas I wanted to try going on in my head musically. Electronic producers are continually pushing the boundaries of sound design and helping drive the sound engineering behind sound system culture.

I really enjoyed getting to put this mix together. I haven’t had as many opportunities to play dub music lately and it was good to get back to what started it all for me. This mix spans genres from Halftime, Dubstep, Hip Hop and Deep Dub. Featuring tracks from IDHS, Dubamine, Burning Bush, Kwizma, Togeki, Kroomen and more.

Starlight Thursdays Episode 158 with another fire melodic techno mix by none other than DJ Slacks. This one is my favorite of his to date. Filled with ethereal uplifting tracks and truly beautiful moments. If you haven’t caught him playing live you’re missing out. I first met DJ Slacks when he was going by Stratton and playing reengage sets plugged into hidden electrical street outlets. It felt really special stumbling upon house beats on an evening walk and randomly busting a move with friends. His moniker changed and he’s playing indoor parties now, but I still get a special feeling during his sets. He’s got good vibes and a excellent taste in music.

Starlight Thursdays Episode 157. Welcoming Shane Dee to the series. I’ve personally been really excited to get to know Shane over the phone recently. We still haven’t met in person and I gotta say I’m really looking forward to hearing him play live. He’s been into rave culture for over two decades and has DJed at a bunch of parties and festivals such as Meltdown (Dallas), Afterlife (Dallas), Fire! (Dallas), Epyklandia (Las Vegas), Regional Burning Man events (Nevada) Trance Arson (Las Vegas), and Ritual (Las Vegas) just to name a few. Shane currently resides in Billings MT and has been getting involved with the scene out there as well as other parts of the state. I gotta say he mixes Techno in ways that just feels so right.

Why did you get into it?

Fell in love with it after learning how to spin vinyl while stationed overseas. I Was fortunate enough to meet a guy from Detroit that’s big brother was really big in the Detroit techno scene and ended up giving me a bunch of crates full of old techno records, and I bought a pair of Technic 1200’s and Been at it ever since lol.

What inspires you about DJing and electronic music?

New Music, Old music. Music!! People. The DJ culture is filled with some amazing people! I am very grateful to have met some really special people that have inspired me throughout the years.

Can you tell us a little bit about your mix?

“Welcome to Rave mountain.” The mix starts out with everyone approaching the mountain and everyone gets excited as the music gets more intense as they get closer to rave mountain. Otherworldly. Heavy, Dark, Trance vibes.

Why did you get into it?

Going to local shows for about a decade and the love and interest came from a group of friends that allowed me to

play with a board. Didn’t take much convincing afterwards.

Eurphrosian in the Mountains, Montambala, Area 406 2, Forest Creatures 4 & 5, Something New at Cymatic, multiple times at the Legacy Lounge and some other smaller events.

Where are you from?

Born and raised in Missoula and currently resides in Northlandia.

What inspires you about DJing and electronic music?

Honestly the vibe! The happiness everyone feels when we all come together for the music, the artists, the

performers. The PLUR everyone has an energy that comes from feeling free. The families we create & times shared! Most importantly my partner in crime and fellow DJ MoJo and our kids!

Featuring BRKN VSN recorded live at Suite Two for a benefit party raising funds for Blue Mountain Clinic. This is the 4th BRKN VSN mix in the series and my favorite one yet. I’ve appreciated each one she’s sent us and listing to them all, I got to say, to me this mix is a testament to who she is as an artist and how far she’s come. I dig the gradual build up and genre bending peak moments as well as the ear opening selection.
