Premium steelbooks are encapsulated works of art for a particular film. They come housed in amazing boxes and come packaged with booklets, art cards and more come individually numbered just to show you how limited each edition is. Today my guest Jody Fox and I will talk about some of our favorite releases in our collection and chat about how difficult it is to secure these in your collection.
On every episode of Boutique Talk I always ask my guests what movie they would like to talk about. When today's guest Kenny Levels from Mid Level Media brought up Brain Damage as his movie of choice I was excited to watch a movie in my collection that I haven't yet. When I found out that this takes place in the same universe as Basket Case I became very excited to check this out.
I have always been curious how the process of making physical media is accomplished from start to finish. Today my guest will be able to finally answer that question for me. Eric D. Wilkinson has been the Director of Sales & Acquisitions at MVD for almost a decade and has been working in the physical media business since 1998 and I cannot wait to pick his brain for today's podcast. (Sorry about the audio issues with this episode.)
I have been collecting physical media for almost 20 years now and throughout that time frame my collecting habits has changed considerably. Today I have the pleasure of talking with Bryan Starr from bstarrcinema about how collections change over time. He is currently in a middle of a series where he is getting out of debt while selling off some of his collection and I am absolutely hooked on watching his journey through this process.
Just because I'm taking this week off doesn't mean that I don't have something for you to listen to. Here is a game of Movie Trivia Jeopardy that I played on my friend 4K King's Youtube channel. Not only that but the challengers that I played against are guests that I have had on this podcast Tim Talks Talkies & Movies With Ryon
Martin Scorsese is one of the best directors to ever give his take of the world behind the lens and one of the reasons why he has been able to make films for so long is because he isn't afraid to take a risk. Thanks to The Criterion Collection releasing one of his hidden gems in 4K with After Hours this gave me a great reason to finally check this film off my Scorsese filmography list.
A good looking physical media box set just makes any collector smile and for me steelbook box sets look the most impressive. Today my guest Alex Thomas and I will gush over these amazing sets and deep dive into one of the largest steelbook sets we own the Harry Potter 8-Film Ultimate Collection.
Arrow Video has had one hell of a 2023. From The Lighthouse to The Warriors their 4K transfers have been top notch but a release (and movie) that isn't getting enough love is Witness. Today I am joined by Huck from Huck's Pop Culture Cafe to talk about this Peter Weir directed gem and even though it was nominated for multiple Oscars (including Harrison Ford's sole acting nomination) this movie never doesn't get talked about enough.
The artists that come up with the artwork on the physical media I love to collect don't seem to get the love that they deserve. With this podcast I'm trying to change that and today I get the pleasure of talking with Zi Xu. She has worked with the likes of Shout Factory and Lionsgate and her artwork is on one of the most beautiful steelbooks I've seen with Akira Kurosawa's Ran.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is one of the best horror movies ever made so it only makes since that there have been a ton of physical media releases for it. Just on the 4K format alone there are two different transfers and today my guest Jeff from Films At Home and myself will deep dive into the Second Sight Films release, talk about the differences between this and the Dark Sky Films release and most importantly discuss how this low budget film paved the way for a new subgenre of slashers to come.
