Marriage Story was my favorite movie of 2019 and I feel like it did not receive the appreciation that it deserves. So when I saw that Criterion was giving this movie a physical release I knew that I needed to add this to my collection. Today I am joined by Movies With Ryon to talk about our love of the film as well as Criterion as a boutique label.
I have been collecting physical media for over two decades now and I can distinctly remember numerous excursions where I found some gold for a super cheap price. Today I will be joined with Josh from Haunting Season and we will reminisce about some VHS collecting stories and how we both fell in love with the medium in the first place.
Criterion was the first boutique label that I collected for and has been around the longest putting out releases on many different physical media formats. Today I will be going over my personal Criterion Collection and the 50+ titles I own spanning the Laserdisc, DVD, Blu-Ray & 4K formats.
I love collecting physical media in all shapes and sizes and for various different reasons. The first format that I collected for was VHS tapes so I've always had an emotional attachment to the format. There are so many releases that have never found their way onto any other format so today my guest VHS Mikey and I will dig deep into our collections and show you all the oddities that feel at home on tape.
The Criterion Collection was the first boutique label that I collected for so it is very exciting that I finally get the chance to talk about it with a great guest Tim from TimTalksTalkies. Him and I are also going to be talking about an amazing movie in 12 Angry Men. Even if you haven't seen the film we will try our best to persuade you to give it a try. If you are a fan of the film we will be talking about three different versions of the film as well as who we would cast in a 2023 version.
Arrow Video has been making physical media releases since 2009 and with that experience comes quality physical media. Today I will be talking to Drew from moviesteels and myself will be talking about their release of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein as well as our history with the label and more movie collecting tidbits. Drew has a steelbook collection that makes me drool so I can't wait to geek out with this man.
Halloween is one of the most iconic horror franchises and Scream Factory released an amazing box set that matches its impressiveness. Derek The Convicted Cinephile and I will talk about his collecting journey, his experience with Scream Factory and break down every single film in this Halloween set.
Orlando "Mexifunk" Aroceno has made some amazing artwork for numerous physical media releases and on this episode we will go over a wide variety of his work. He has teamed with companies like Disney, Scream Factory, 20th Century Fox, Lionsgate, Troma and Nova Media making artwork for such iconic IP's as Black Panther, Venom, Creepshow & Pumpkinhead and anytime you see his art pop up on a blu-ray, 4K or steelbook packaging it is always a treat.
There are 38 steelbook releases coming out in the month of October and that is equal parts amazing and insane. Let's go over them all together and hopefully this will help you decide what releases you will be picking up this month as well as judge me on how I rank these. This was a Youtube livestream that I recorded and this should probably be seen and not just heard. A24 is slowly becoming a powerhouse as a movie studio but how do they stand as a boutique label distributor? Today we will find out just that as my guest Bluray Dan (dan_in_real_life on Tiktok) and I dig into this unique release. Bluray Dan has been collecting movies for over a decade and on this episode we are going to dig into his evolution as a collector and dig into his knowledge on A24.
