In Numbers 25:1-9 we see the people worshiping the foreign gods and intermingling (sexually and maybe marrying them) with the foreign women. They are not supposed to do this because the foreign people would lead them astray. That is what happens here as well. They are worshipping Baal, the foreign god. Baal was a Canaanite fertility god. In verses 10-18 we see the zeal of Phinehas as he turns back God’s wrath.

In Luke 10:1-24 we have the mission of the 72. In verses 25-37 we have “The Parable of the Good Samaritan.” Notice that Jesus tells this parable in Samaria and He makes the Samaritan the good guy. To a degree Samaritan Jewish people and Jerusalem Jewish people were enemies. In Luke 10:38-42 we have Martha and Mary.

In Numbers 24 we see Balaam’s third and fourth oracles. Remember he is supposed to be cursing Israel but he is blessing them. In verses 1-14 we have his third oracles, then in verses 15-25 we have his final oracle.

In Luke 9:1-6 Jesus sends out the 12 apostles. In verses 7-9 Herod is perplexed by Jesus. In verses 10-17 Jesus feeds the 5000. In verses 18-20 Peter confesses Jesus is the Christ. In verses 21-27 Jesus foretells His death and talks about discipleship. In verses 28-36 we have the transfiguration. In verses 37-42 Jesus heals a boy with an unclean spirit. In verses 44-45 we have more instruction about Jesus’ death. In verses 46-50 we have instruction about who is the greatest. Then in verses 51-62 Jesus begins to go into the Samaritan villages. This is called “The Road to Jerusalem. In Luke 9:51-19:27 Jesus is in Samaria on His way to Jerusalem. In Luke’s Gospel We have 10 parables that Jesus will tell in Samaria and these parables are not in the other Gospels.

In Numbers 23 we see Balaam’s first and second oracle. Remember that Balak wants Balaam to curse Israel but Balaam says he can only do what the Lord tells him. Balaam is not a Hebrews, he is a pagan prophet. Balak is the local king of Moab and he is scared that the Israelites will conquer them. As Balaam tries to curse Israel he blesses them. We see Balaam’s second oracle in verses 13-30)

In Luke 8 we have many parables by Jesus. First, in verses 1-3 we have the women accompanying Jesus talked about. In verses 4-18 we have parables and Jesus tells the purpose of the parables. In verses 19-20 Jesus talks about his mother and brothers being those who hear the Word of God and do it. In verses 22-25 Jesus calms the storm. In verses 26-39 Jesus heals a man with a demon. In verses 40-56 Jesus heals Jairus’ daughter.

In Numbers 22 we have the beginning of the narrative with Balak and Balaam. Balak is a local king, the king of Moab. Balak was concerned that Israel would defeat them so he summoned Balaam, a local prophet, in order to curse Israel. This will continue through the next few chapters. In Numbers 22 we see Balaam summoned, first he says no, but then he agrees. We will see the humorous story of Balaam and his donkey and the Angel of the Lord.

In Luke 7 we have more miracles. In the ESV Study Bible it summarizes this chapter as follows: Who Is This Jesus? Luke helps his readers answer the question “Who is this … ?” (v. 49) by recounting two healing miracles (vv. 1–10, 11–17), John’s testimony to Jesus (vv. 18–35), and another example of Jesus forgiving sins (vv. 36–50).

In Numbers 21 we have a battle in verses 1-3. This battle was not initiated by Israel. In verses 4-9 we have the bronze serpent. In verses 10-35 Israel travels again and has more battles.

In Luke 6 we begin with teaching that Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath (verses 1-5). Then in verses 6-11 Jesus heals a man with a withered hand. In verses 12-16 we are introduced to the apostles. In verses 17-49 we have the beatitudes (extreme blessings).
