In Numbers 22 we see recorded the death of Miriam in verse 1. In verses 2-13 we see a rebellion at Meribah. Within that section in verses 10-13 Moses strikes the rock in anger. We see Moses’ punishment. Moses will not lead the people into the promised land. In a sermon on leadership Chuck Swindoll shared: Anger begins with mild irritation/Indignation, then wrath. Psychologist say it never goes unexpressed. Then, fury, followed by rage, this is most intense and dangerous. Swindoll does not think Moses was guilty of rage.

Leaders must:

Serve others patiently

Obeying God completely

Accept God’s plan willingly

Die to self submissively

1 Cor 10:4 shares that the Rock was Christ. The Rock he hit was a symbol that will later be used for the Rock of Christ.

Christ hung on the cross saying forgive them.

Moses assaulted the holiness of God and did it publicly. Moses made it about him rather than God. Great leaders are not powerful but servants.

Then in verses 14-21 the Edomites refuse passage. The Edomites were descendants of Esau. In verses 22-29 we have recorded the death of Aaron.

In Luke 5:1-11 Jesus calls His disciples. In verses 12-16 Jesus cleanses a leper. In verses 17-26 Jesus heals a paralytic. In verses 27-32 Jesus calls Levi (Matthew). In verses 33-39 Jesus answers questions about fasting.

In Numbers 19 we have instructions for purification. Remember that we serve a holy God and God is calling His people out to be holy.

In Luke 4 we have the temptation of Jesus in verses 1-13. Notice that Jesus responds with Scripture. In verses 14-15 Jesus begins His ministry. In verses 16-30 Jesus is rejected at Nazareth. In verses 31-41 Jesus heals people. Then in verses 42-43 we see Jesus preaching.

In Luke 4 we have the temptation of Jesus in verses 1-13. Notice that Jesus responds with Scripture. In verses 14-15 Jesus begins His ministry. In verses 16-30 Jesus is rejected at Nazareth. In verses 31-41 Jesus heals people. Then in verses 42-43 we see Jesus preaching.

In Numbers 18 we see a description of the duties and privileges of the priests and Levites. Remember that the Levites were the priestly tribe. In verses 1-7 we see guard duties in and around the temple. In verses 8-20 we see instructions on the priests income. In verses 21-24 we see the Levites income. In verses 25-32 we see writing about the tithe. Tithe, literally means 10 percent.

In Luke 3 we see John the baptizer preaching. We see this in verses 1-20. Notice how much more detail Luke gives to John. We will see the detail of Luke’s gospel. In verses 21-22 Jesus is baptized. We see the genealogy of Jesus in verses 23-38. This is different than the account in Matthew. In Today in the Word, December 2016, Dr. Rydelic writes: “The Gospel of Matthew tells the virgin-birth story from the perspective of Joseph, Jesus’ adoptive and legal father. The Gospel of Luke, on the other hand, recounts the birth of Jesus from Mary’s perspective, including Jesus’ physical descent from His mother. Both Joseph and Mary were of the house of David but descended from two different sons of David.” I can share more about that if anyone is interested. Dr. Rydelnic shared more in an article in which I quoted from.

In Numbers 17 we see a miraculous incident in which Aaron’s staff buds.

In Luke 2 Jesus is born. We see Jesus’ birth in verses 1-7. Then in verses 8-18 we see the angels visit the shepherds and the shepherds go to visit Jesus. In verse 19 we see that Mary treasured all these things pondering them in her heart. In verse 20 the shepherds are glorifying and praising God. In verses 21-40 Jesus is presented at the temple and there are more prophesies. Verse 40 is important, “The child [Jesus] continued to grow and become strong, increasing in wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him.” Luke 1:80 had a similar, but different, verse about John the baptizer. In verses 41-52 we have a window into Jesus’ childhood.

In Numbers 16 we see Korah’s rebellion. Korah was a Levite but not a priest. He was from the Kohathite clan. In verses 20-34 we see the death of those leaders of the rebellion and their families. Remember the Lord is holy and we must recognize His holiness. In verses 41-50 we see an incident in which Aaron stopped a plague.
