Douglas Lyons  was gracious enough to take a moment to chat with Lisa  just two days before making his Broadway debut as a playwright with his new family comedy Chicken and Biscuits, there are 25 Broadway debuts in this show which has its first preview TONIGHT Thursday September 23rd, 2021 at Circle in The Square .

Lisa and Douglas dig in and talk about navigating rejection, imposter syndrome, moving and healing audiences and the power of stories and family.

Douglas Lyons is no stranger to the Broadway stage and in addition to his talents as a playwright, he is an accomplished actor, writer, director, composer and teacher. His Broadway acting credits include the original cast of Beautiful and The Book of Mormon and National Tours of  Rent and Dreamgirls. His writing credits include Fraggle Rock on Apple TV, Polkadots Off Broadway and Five Points which is now in development with Hamilton's Andy Blankenbuehler. As a composer/lyricist, he is half of the writing team Lyons & Pakchar. Their work has been featured on CBS's “Sunday Morning Show,” Carnegie Hall's “Voices of Hope Festival,” Lincoln Center’s “Broadway Songbook Series,” and more. Douglas is the founder of The Next Wave Initiative, a scholarship program dedicated to supporting the future of Black Theater artists.

Lisa chats with renowned caricature artist Ken Fallin about his gift, his process, imposter syndrome, his association with Al  Hirschfeld and his unique propensity to look forward to the unknown and and presume the best.

Kenneth Fallin is a caricature artist whose pen and ink celebrity portraits have been published internationally by such diverse and distinguished publications as The Wall Street Journal, In Style Magazine, The New Yorker Magazine, The Hollywood Reporter, The Los Angeles Times, The Chicago Tribune, The Washington Post, and Barron’s Magazine.  He received an Emmy Award nomination for his animated commercial for CNBC’s “Squawk Box” show and has several posters in the permanent poster collection of London’s Victoria and Albert Museum. His drawings are also on the walls of The Players Club. A permanent collection of original drawings and prints is on display at New World Stages in New York City. Private collectors of Ken’s work include Angela Lansbury, Kelli O’Hara, Stephen Schwartz, Warren Buffett, Barbra Streisand,, Sarah Jessica Parker, Bernadette Peters, Sarah Paulson, Bradley Cooper, Sir Patrick Stewart, Harold Prince, and Sir Cameron Mackintosh.

I caught up with Lorin Latarro  after a rehearsal for Waitress, which is getting ready to reopen after being dark for almost 18 months. It's one of the first shows to be back since Broadway shut down in March 2020 and starts in previews on September 2.  Lorin is no stranger to the Broadway stage as a dancer, she has appeared on Broadway in 14 shows  and in addition to Waitress,  is choreographer for Mrs. Doubtfire which returns to Broadway in October,  Almost Famous the Public's  The Visitor and the Broadway bound musicals The Outsiders and Like Water for Chocolate. 

We chat about lessons learned during a pandemic, the joy of motherhood, creating work-life balance  and the true definition of being an artist.

"I walked into this business wanting it badly, and at the same time wanting a full life. "

"Turning the faucet off was very difficult for me, but then it was comfortable."

"I am an artist because I'm an artist. I am not an artist. Because I'm working in the industry. What I learned is that I bring my artistry to my daily life."
