My next guest is the Emmy award winning editor Steven Sander, a gifted story teller whose projects elevate empower and inspire.  In our conversation we explore the importance of listening and paying attention to the world around us.

"If you're not paying attention to things, I don't think you're really contributing."

 His most recent project "My Beautiful Stutter"   is an important film that captures the transformation of a group of young stutterers who after enduring a lifetime of shame and fear learn that for the first time that it's okay to stutter.

Steven Sander is an Emmy Award-winning editor (2016 Outstanding Long Sports Documentary) who has been cutting feature drama and documentary projects since 2008. His films have screened theatrically, on major television networks (NBC, ESPN, BBC and Channel 4) and at film festivals around the world. His debut feature as an editor, New Town Killers, received three BAFTA Scotland Nominations (Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor) after premiering at the BFI London Film Festival.  His most recent feature documentary, My Beautiful Stutter, has won several festival awards and premiers in 2021 as a Discovery+ Original. Steven also directs, and has won awards for his commercials and short documentaries.  He currently combines his work as an editor with commercials directing.

I hope you enjoy this episode with my friend and colleague Michael Alden as much as I did. Although his resume reads like a who’s who of the entertainment industry, I invited him to speak with me because I’ve had the great pleasure of knowing Michael on a personal level and wanted to offer you the chance to learn about someone who is not only a great proponent of the arts but a thoughtful human being who strives to live a meaningful life of purpose.

Michael Alden is a Tony Award nominated Producer whose career spans live theatre, cinema and television. He has been represented in the West End with David Seidler’s original play The King’s Speech and Bat Boy The Musical. On Broadway: Come From Away (2017 Tony Nomination & Olivier Winner for Best Musical),  Disgraced (2015 Tony Nomination for Best Play, 2013 Pulitzer Prize – Drama) Grey Gardens (2007 Tony Nomination for Best Musical) and Bridge & Tunnel (Special Tony Award).

His off Broadway and regional works include Not That Jewish, Becoming Dr. Ruth, Admit One, the Brochu-Schalchlin musical The Last Session, Spalding Gray: Stories Left To Tell, the Los Angeles productions of Howard Crabtree’s When Pigs Fly,  and Theresa Rebeck’s Bad Dates directed by Judith Ivey.  

Alden's film works include: Just Cause with Sean Connery, the fashion forward documentary UnZipped for Mirimax, Stephen Daldry’s The Hours, the multi-award winning feature comedy Kissing Jessica Stein and Ralph Ziman’s foreign feature film The Zookeeper starring Sam Neill.

His current 2020/21 film production works include Ian Holt's supernatural thriller, Cursed and three feature-length documentaries, My Beautiful Stutter which follows five children from bullying to bravery, When Reagan Killed Roosevelt a film chronicling the formative years of famed rap group Public Enemy, and Just Say Yo! the never before told story of the rise of MTV Raps and their place in the rap revolution.

Had an amazing conversation with actor, singer, dancer Larry Saperstein about life, showbiz, and the importance of doing your best rather than trying to be the best.

The interview was recorded on Dec. 14th, 2020 Larry who was in Utah just before the holidays shooting the second season of "High School Musical: The Musical: The Series,"

"It's not about being the best, it's about doing it graciously and wholeheartedly."

"Just because I'm going through a two month period where I don't have any ideas, doesn't mean I'm not creative."

Larry Saperstein plays "Big Red" on "High School Musical: The Musical: The Series," a reinvented take on the two-time Emmy Award-winning "High School Musical" franchise, for Disney+. Most recently, he portrayed the role of Timmy in the first season of BET’s "First Wives Club." Saperstein can also be seen opposite Kiernan Shipka in the film "Fan Girl," directed by Paul Jarrett. Formally trained as a dancer and vocalist, Saperstein has starred in several regional musicals including "Oliver!," "Fiddler on the Roof" and "Miracle on 3th Street.”

In his book “PLAY” Stuart Brown says “children don’t need formal events to initiate play”  but notes that for adults “ritual and celebration is often necessary to provide an official excuse to play” .

In this brief episode Lisa discusses the limiting beliefs about the delineation between work and play and emphasizes importance of accessing more play in all our lives.

Wendy Rosoff is an actor, singer, dancer, director, writer, choreographer and educator. On Broadway, she has performed in 42nd Street, White Christmas, A Christmas Carol and My Favorite Broadway. She has also performed Off-Broadway, nationally and internationally. In addition to her work in theatre, Wendy has appeared on television shows, such as Scorpion, Castle, Criminal Minds, Good Behaviorand Shameless as well as acting in numerous independent and feature films. Wendy is an award-winning theater director and choreographer who also directs in the digital medium. She is a proud member of Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, Actors' Equity Association, American Guild-Variety Artists and the prestigious Musical Theatre Guild of Los Angeles.
