Why was Jesus made a little lower than the angels? Hebrews 2:9-15: "for the suffering of death," so that through death He might destroy him that had the power of death.

"But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man" (Hebrews 2:9). Otis and Matt explain why Jesus had to become fully man: "Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage" (Hebrews 2:14-15).

Along the way: "we see not yet all things put under him" (Hebrews 2:8), Peter walking on the water (Matthew 14:28-31), "by one man sin entered into the world" (Romans 5:12), "that he might destroy the works of the devil" (1 John 3:8), docetism and whether Jesus really came in the flesh, "in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily" (Colossians 2:9-10), hardened hearts (John 12; Isaiah 6), and the captain of our salvation made "perfect through sufferings" (Hebrews 2:10; Hebrews 5:8), who "ever liveth to make intercession" (Hebrews 7:25).

It opens on the heart that "is deceitful above all things" (Jeremiah 17:9), witchcraft and the blood debt, being "stewards of the mysteries of God" (1 Corinthians 4:1-2), and the fear of the Lord (Proverbs 2:1-6).

How should Christians fast? In Matthew 6:16-18 (KJV) Jesus says "when ye fast," not "if," and to fast "unto thy Father which is in secret."
Sermon on the Mount Pt 20, hosted by Matt Hepner and TopLobsta.

Matt points out that the problem in our generation is not fasting for attention; it is not fasting at all. Jesus said "when ye fast" the same way He said "when thou prayest" and "when thou doest thine alms." Fasting is choosing to go without food you have access to, which is different from hunger (Paul's "in fastings often," 2 Corinthians 11:27), and it says amen to "man shall not live by bread alone" (Matthew 4:1-4).

Why didn't Jesus' disciples fast? Because the bridegroom was with them: "then shall they fast in those days" (Luke 5:33-35). The hosts also cover the tithe eaten before the Lord (Deuteronomy 14:23-26), the Pharisee who said "I fast twice in the week" (Luke 18:9-14), the fast God has chosen (Isaiah 58), and "did ye at all fast unto me?" (Zechariah 7:4-7).

Then fasting in action: Ezra at the river of Ahava (Ezra 8:21-23), the church at Antioch fasting before sending out Barnabas and Saul (Acts 13:1-3), "I humbled my soul with fasting" (Psalm 35:13), Paul's thorn in the flesh (2 Corinthians 12:7-10), Ahab humbling himself (1 Kings 21:27-29), Nineveh's fast (Jonah 3), Esther's three-day fast (Esther 4:16), and the "Daniel fast" (Daniel 1:8-16; Daniel 10:1-12). Matt closes with his own 21-day Daniel fast and a weekly fast he took up from John Wesley's journal.

What is dispensationalism? Bennis the Menace tests it against Romans 9:6, Revelation 3:9 and Revelation 20, and traces it to John Darby in 1830.
A Straight Bible guest episode with Bennis the Menace, hosted by Matt Hepner and TopLobsta.

Bennis earned a biblical studies degree at Moody Bible Institute, then spent about a year re-studying the end-times system he was taught. He calls dispensationalism standard evangelical end-times teaching, invented in 1830 by John Darby, and says a "dispensation" is not the same as dispensationalism.

On Israel, Bennis argues from "they are not all Israel, which are of Israel" (Romans 9:6), Jesus in John 8:39-44, John the Baptist's "think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father" (Matthew 3:9), and "the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not" (Revelation 3:9; Revelation 2:9). He says no New Testament passage promises a regathering after the AD 70 dispersion, and that apocalyptic language must be read as its first audience read it.

Later: the pre-tribulation rapture, Satan bound a thousand years (Revelation 20:1-10), the strong man bound (Matthew 12:28-29), Satan's little season, "all Israel shall be saved" (Romans 11:26), and a tangent on the world before the flood (Numbers 13:23). Daniel's 70 weeks is saved for a future episode.

What is man, that thou art mindful of him? Hebrews 2:5-9 quotes Psalm 8: God put the world to come under man, not angels, and "we see Jesus."

Otis walks through Hebrews 2:5-9 (read on air from the NASB) alongside Psalm 8 and Genesis 1-3. God did not put the world to come in subjection to angels; He gave dominion to man. Adam lost that dominion through sin, and Jesus, who took on flesh and blood, tasted death for every man and restores what Adam lost.

Will God forgive you if you don't forgive others? Matthew 6:14-15 (KJV): "if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses."
Sermon on the Mount Pt 19, hosted by Matt Hepner and TopLobsta.

Matt calls it a blank check. In Matthew 6:14-15 Jesus hands you the check: you write it out for forgiving or for not forgiving, but either way you cash it. Your life is a blank check, and you are as close to God as you want to be. The same pattern runs through "Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy" (Matthew 5:7), "when ye stand praying, forgive" (Mark 11:25-26), and "all things are yours" (1 Corinthians 3:21-23).

From there: the faithful and wise servant (Matthew 24:42-51), "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves" (2 Chronicles 7:13-14), "With the merciful thou wilt shew thyself merciful" (2 Samuel 22:26-28), "God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble" (James 4:4-10; 1 Peter 5:5-10), sowing to the Spirit (Galatians 6:7-8; Galatians 5:16-17), confessing Christ before men (Matthew 10:32-33; Romans 10:8-13; John 12:42-43), the widow's oil that flowed until the vessels ran out (2 Kings 4:1-7), five barley loaves and two small fishes (John 6:1-13), and the parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30).

It opens on the Orthodox vs Protestant debate: take what is good, but do not join a camp just because it attacks the other one, the same division Paul faced in Corinth.

How do you share the gospel with your family? Stephen DeMattis was saved at 18, then preached the wide and narrow way (Matthew 7:13-14) to his dad.
A Straight Bible guest episode with Stephen DeMattis of Biblical Hitman, hosted by Matt Hepner and TopLobsta.

Stephen DeMattis, a former firefighter and the host of Biblical Hitman, tells how a friend back from Teen Challenge preached the gospel to him at 18. He was saved and baptized that night, went home, and preached the wide road to destruction and the narrow road (Matthew 7:13-14) to his dad, who got angry. After years of tension his dad gave his life to the Lord. His advice: people already feel something when the gospel comes to them, and a close call is the time to say "you're living on borrowed time."

Why did Saul turn against David? In 1 Samuel 18 the women sang "Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands," and Saul was very wroth.
A Nephilim Death Squad episode on the Straight Bible channel, hosted by Matt Hepner and TopLobsta.

Matt reads David's story in 1 Samuel 16-22 as a pattern, half joking that Owen Benjamin is King David. Samuel anoints the shepherd boy because "man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart" (1 Samuel 16:7). David plays the harp for Saul, refuses Saul's armour (1 Samuel 17:38-40), and "the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David" (1 Samuel 18:1).

Then the turn: the women sing "Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands," and "Saul was very wroth, and the saying displeased him" (1 Samuel 18:7-8). Saul eyes David, casts the javelin (1 Samuel 18:11), offers his daughters as a snare, and hunts him to Naioth in Ramah (1 Samuel 19:18-24). David feigns madness before Achish (1 Samuel 21:10-15) and hides in the cave Adullam, where "every one that was in distress, and every one that was in debt, and every one that was discontented, gathered themselves unto him" (1 Samuel 22:1-2). In the typology, Saul stands for "the system."

It opens with spiritual warfare stories, Jess healed after a week of dizziness, and "Love not the world" (1 John 2:15), and it closes on what God is looking for: real people, not actors.

How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation? Hebrews 2:1-4 (KJV) warns "lest at any time we should let them slip": drifting from Christ starts with neglect.

Chapter 1 showed Jesus above the prophets and the angels. Hebrews 2 opens with the first warning of the book: "we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip" (Hebrews 2:1). Otis explains that nobody drifts toward holiness. Drift is what happens when you stop rowing, one small neglect at a time.

"For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward; How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation" (Hebrews 2:2-3)? The hosts look at Uzzah and the ark (2 Samuel 6:6-7), being "sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all" (Hebrews 10:10; 2 Corinthians 5:21), creation leaving men "without excuse" (Psalm 19:1-4; Romans 1:19-20), the unforgivable sin, the quail in the wilderness (Numbers 11), and the eyewitnesses of the Word of life (Luke 1:2; 1 John 1:1-3).

Verse 4: God bore witness "with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost." That leads to Mark 16:15-20, what speaking in tongues is, a follow-up on the two witnesses from the last Q&A, and "Who hath believed our report?" (Isaiah 53:1). It opens with Otis on the secret of the Lord (Proverbs 2:1-6; Proverbs 3:32; Psalm 119).

What does "forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors" mean? Matthew 6:12-13 (KJV): we ask to be forgiven as we forgive, so faith has to show up in how we live.
Sermon on the Mount Pt 18, hosted by Matt Hepner and TopLobsta.

"And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil" (Matthew 6:12-13). Matt points out that even in the Lord's Prayer we do not ask for forgiveness on its own. We ask for it "as we forgive." The ball is in your court, and your life is a blank check. "Be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another" (Ephesians 4:32), and the servant who was forgiven a huge debt and then choked his fellow servant (Matthew 18) shows what the other road looks like.

The theme is faith without works: faith that produces action. The man sick of the palsy (Mark 2), the woman who said "If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole" (Mark 5), "Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not" (1 John 3), "I am the vine, ye are the branches" (John 15), taking up the cross (Matthew 16:24-27), "created in Christ Jesus unto good works" (Ephesians 2:10), "God hath not given us the spirit of fear" (2 Timothy 1:7), and "by the grace of God I am what I am" (1 Corinthians 15:10).

It ends with the parable of the talents (Matthew 25). The servant who hid his talent said "I was afraid," and "the fearful" head the list in Revelation 21:8. Matt's answer: walk through it afraid.

Why is Jesus called a worm in Psalm 22:6? "But I am a worm, and no man." Pastor Rick on the crimson worm (tola) and being led by the Holy Spirit (John 16:7).
A Straight Bible guest episode with Pastor Rick of LIFE Church AG in Fruitland Park, FL, hosted by Matt Hepner, TopLobsta and David "The Raven" Corbo.

Pastor Rick, the pastor of TopLobsta and The Raven, comes on the show. When he heard Psalm 22 brought up, "But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people" (Psalm 22:6), he saw a prophecy about Jesus and looked up the Hebrew word tola, the crimson worm. When the worm dies on the tree, it stains the tree and covers its young, and its shell turns white: "though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow" (Isaiah 1:18).

Is the Holy Spirit still working today? Rick tells how a visitor about 29 years ago gave him advice, and how from that time on the church has invited the Holy Spirit into everything it does: his plan is always "subject to the presence of Holy Spirit." "It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you" (John 16:7). Also: reconciliation between Christians (Matthew 18:15), God looking for disciples rather than numbers, growing from nine supported missionaries to 240, and being invited into the fellowship of the Trinity (John 17:21).

His testimony: growing up in a paper mill town in North Louisiana, getting saved at a revival, telling his unbelieving dad (an ex-boxer), "deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow me," people turning toward Christ after the Charlie Kirk news, the call to repentance, "the fields are white already to harvest" (John 4:35), and his son Josh coming back to God at a missionary's altar call.
