How did the Raven go from the occult to Jesus? Born to parents who split up (Hebrews 12:8 comes up), he ended up rebuking a demonic presence in the name of Jesus Christ.
A Straight Bible interview with the Raven (David Corbo), hosted by Matt Hepner and TopLobsta.

The Raven tells his story on Straight Bible. He grew up in New Jersey with his parents apart (Hebrews 12:8 comes up at 5:22), raised by many women in a big spooky house. His grandmother was a clairvoyant, and an aunt who was never the same after a Ouija board talked about smelling the devil before he appears. He calls it generational iniquity.

Then comes the searching: alien abduction stories in the family, Whitley Strieber's Communion, sleep paralysis and the hat man (his dad saw him too), Bigfoot, a woman's voice in his head, a light pouring out of a closet, getting knocked out with a baseball bat, homelessness at 16, meeting his wife, welding, and cancer.

The turn: a demonic entity that he, his wife and his son all saw. "I had no other options." He took authority over his home "in the name of Jesus Christ" and it stopped (2:05:11). That led to The Raven's Watch, meeting TopLobsta through The Confessionals community, and the start of Nephilim Death Squad.

What are vain repetitions? Matthew 6:7-8 (KJV): "use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do... for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of."
Sermon on the Mount Pt 14, hosted by Matt Hepner and TopLobsta.

"But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking" (Matthew 6:7). After a recap of praying in secret, Matt pictures a customer who says "I'll take a large hot mocha" over and over. That is how ridiculous vain repetition is. Saying prayers is different from praying: prayer is a back-and-forth conversation with God.

How does God talk? "Call unto me, and I will answer thee" (Jeremiah 33:3). The Spirit of truth "will guide you into all truth" (John 16:13), and the Comforter "shall teach you all things" (John 14:26). Israel "forsaken me the fountain of living waters" and hewed out broken cisterns (Jeremiah 2:13). In Isaiah 45 God forms the light and creates darkness (45:7), the clay does not argue with the potter, and "concerning the work of my hands command ye me" (45:11).

"Your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him" (Matthew 6:8), so "come boldly unto the throne of grace" (Hebrews 4:16). The Spirit makes intercession "with groanings which cannot be uttered" (Romans 8:26). Nineveh prays "Who can tell if God will turn and repent" (Jonah 3:9), Daniel confesses "We have sinned" (Daniel 9), Jesus prays in John 17, and Daniel is heard from the first day (Daniel 10:12). Is thanking God every day a vain repetition? Not if it comes from the heart.

Why did Cain kill Abel in Genesis 4 (KJV)? Doc Brown of Prometheus Lens, author of The Epic of Esau, walks through his take on Cain, the mark of Cain, Esau and the giants of Seir.

Doc Brown's hypothesis is that the Cain and Abel story is a highlight reel of years of resentment, and that Abel was killed as a sacrifice to a false god. The earth "opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood" (Genesis 4:11), and Matt and Doc talk about the false gods and signs around the first families, why God still reasoned with Cain, and Abel's "more excellent sacrifice" (Hebrews 11:4).

Next come two creations of mankind (Genesis 1:26-28 and Genesis 2), the mark of Cain in rabbinic tradition (Rashi), and Lamech's two wives (Genesis 4:19). Doc explains why he thinks Esau, who "came out red, all over like an hairy garment" (Genesis 25:25), was more than he seems, drawing on Jewish traditions about Nimrod, the garments of Eden and the birthright.

Matt brings Deuteronomy 2, where "the Horims also dwelt in Seir beforetime, but the children of Esau succeeded them," and they finish on the Amalekites. Many of these are Doc's interpretations of extra-biblical sources (Rashi, the Midrash, the Book of Jasher, Ginzberg's Legends of the Jews). Be a Berean and check them against Scripture.

What does it mean to pray in secret in Matthew 6:5-6 (KJV)? Jesus says "when thou prayest," not if, and prayer at its plainest is communication with God.
Sermon on the Mount Pt 13, hosted by Matt Hepner and TopLobsta.

Jesus warns against praying "that they may be seen of men" and says "enter into thy closet." Matt defines prayer as communication with God, and "Pray without ceasing" (1 Thessalonians 5:17) as living "in light of the reality of me and God." Prayer is persistent (Luke 18:1; Luke 11:5-13), needs faith (Hebrews 11:6), and asks, seeks and knocks (Matthew 7:7-8).

Who stands before God? "He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart" (Psalm 24:4). His sheep know His voice and the hireling flees (John 10), and Israel was told to "hearken to the voice of the LORD" (Exodus 15:26).

The closet is real. Jesus went "up into a mountain apart to pray" (Matthew 14:23) and "withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed" (Luke 5:16). Moses had 40 years in the desert, Elijah had the brook Cherith, and Paul went into Arabia (Galatians 1:17). The study ends on "Behold, he prayeth" (Acts 9:11).

Do you have to be baptized to be saved? Mark 16:16 and 1 Peter 3:21 frame the answer, plus whether you have to go to church, communion, and marriage to an unbeliever.

A listener asks: "Is this a done deal that I'm not getting saved because I'm not part of a church or have been baptized?" On church, Matt reads "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together" (Hebrews 10:25) and "Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another" (Malachi 3:16).

On baptism: "He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved" (Mark 16:16), yet the thief on the cross heard "To day shalt thou be with me in paradise" (Luke 23:43). There is "one baptism" (Ephesians 4:5), and "baptism doth also now save us... the answer of a good conscience toward God" (1 Peter 3:21). "We are buried with him by baptism into death" (Romans 6:4). In Acts 8 the Ethiopian asks, "See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?" Matt: "I'm not saying if you don't get baptized, you can't be saved... I'm just saying go get baptized."

Also: communion and "not discerning the Lord's body" (1 Corinthians 11:29), a believing wife ("the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife," 1 Corinthians 7:14), a wife raised a Jehovah's Witness, Job 1:21, and heaven (2 Corinthians 5:8).

Was Walt Disney an occultist? Former Disney artist Thomas Paranoid American says yes. Matt Hepner asks what money can't buy (Acts 8:18-20).
Thomas Paranoid American on Straight Bible with Matt Hepner: the full conversation.

Thomas worked at Disney from 2003 to 2016, and he joined the Freemasons. His view of Walt Disney: "Walt Disney was an occultist at heart." He points to Walt's membership in DeMolay and says the early films, starting with Snow White, taught "Rosicrucianism." After Walt died, he says, the studio kept the pattern only because it sold: "you traumatize a kid... you kill their parents," and then the sidekick becomes the Happy Meal toy. Walt's "nine old men" carried it on.

Along the way: political kayfabe, secret societies giving way to boardrooms, egregores, what happens inside a lodge, the Franklin scandal, adrenochrome, the Time Samplers comic and Jekyll Island, the Woodpecker Grid, a $70,000 pilot offer with a Margaret Sanger stipulation, nostalgia as a delivery system, and Project Montauk. These are Thomas's accounts and research, and he labels several of them as unproven.

Matt keeps coming back to Scripture. On adrenochrome, he cites the Jerusalem council telling Gentile believers to "abstain... from blood" (Acts 15:20). On money and secret knowledge, he cites Simon the sorcerer, who offered money for the Holy Ghost and heard "Thy money perish with thee" (Acts 8:18-20): "If the church doesn't have something supernatural... then it doesn't have anything." Thomas read the Bible end to end four times in military confinement and says it never clicked. Matt closes by praying for him, asking "Where is the LORD God of Elijah?" (2 Kings 2:14).

Why did Ananias and Sapphira die? Matthew 6:1-4 (KJV): "Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them."
Sermon on the Mount Pt 12 with Matt Hepner, TopLobsta and Gavin Kessler.

Jesus says to give "in secret," not "as the hypocrites do... that they may have glory of men" (Matthew 6:2). Matt traces how money was raised in the Bible: for the poor, not for buildings. Paul's collection for the saints at Jerusalem carries "God loveth a cheerful giver" (2 Corinthians 9:7). The disciples sent relief to Judaea before a famine (Acts 11:29), and the widow cast in "all the living that she had" (Luke 21:4).

Then the rich young ruler (Mark 10:17-27): "Jesus beholding him loved him," and he "went away grieved: for he had great possessions." Matt: "At least this dude was truthful enough... he's not a hypocrite. He walked away." Next comes the contrast: Barnabas sells his land, but Ananias and Sapphira keep back part of the price and die. Peter tells them, "Thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God" (Acts 5:4). Why did they lie? "To be seen of men," the same motive as Matthew 6:1-4.

Also: Satan entering Judas twice (Luke 22:3; John 13:27), all of Matthew 23 ("Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites!"), and three people who were not hypocrites: Zacchaeus (Luke 19:1-10), Apollos (Acts 18:24-28) and Nathanael, "in whom is no guile" (John 1:47).

How do you lead a Bible study at home? Otis Fowler IV explains Tending Eden, his home church discipleship curriculum, written so an ordinary believer can facilitate a study.

Otis grew up in church, walked away at 17, and spent years chasing money, partying, steroids and drugs while his sister struggled with addiction. A blank check prayer, Isaiah 6 on a Bible app and Romans 8:16 turned him around, followed by losing nearly everything, five years free of addictions, student ministry, the Asbury Revival and seminary. He talks about why men forgot how to be men, beach outreach with a prayer tent, ocean baptisms with more than 15 local churches, and the ministry called Eden. Then his book, Tending Eden: His Garden, People, and Glory: each session moves from highs and lows through a theme, reflection, foundational scripture, key insights, group discussion, a kingdom perspective and closing prayer points to a commission. Along the way: soul and spirit (Hebrews 4:12), the greatest commandment (Mark 12:30) and Deuteronomy 6.
