  • What Does Hunger and Thirst After Righteousness Mean? Matthew 5:6-8 | Sermon on the Mount
What does it mean to "hunger and thirst after righteousness" in Matthew 5:6-8 (KJV)? It is His righteousness, not ours, and the same heart is merciful and pure and sees God.
Sermon on the Mount Pt 2, hosted by Matt Hepner and TopLobsta.

Verse 6: people who hunger and thirst have a sense of adventure, like Abraham leaving Ur of the Chaldees. The righteousness they want is His, not theirs: "seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness" (Matthew 6:33; Psalm 143; John 6:35; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Philippians 3:9).

Verse 7: "Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy," through the parable of the unforgiving servant (Matthew 18:21-35). Jesus "knew what was in man" (John 2:25) and still thought us worth dying for.

Verse 8: "Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God." It is not the people with letters behind their names who see God. It is the single eye (Matthew 6:22), not closed eyes (Matthew 13:10-17), and "where your treasure is, there will your heart be also" (Matthew 6:21).

  • What Are the Beatitudes? Matthew 5:1-12 (KJV) | Sermon on the Mount
What are the Beatitudes in Matthew 5:1-12 (KJV)? Jesus saw the multitudes but taught His disciples the character of a kingdom that is not of this world.
Sermon on the Mount Pt 1, hosted by Matt Hepner and TopLobsta.

The start of the Sermon on the Mount study. Jesus saw the multitudes but taught His disciples, a remnant who would carry it to everyone as salt and light (Matthew 5:13-16). The disciples still asked, "wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?" (Acts 1:6), which Matt compares to Christian nationalism today, but Jesus told Pilate, "My kingdom is not of this world" (John 18:36).

The Beatitudes describe the character of that kingdom's citizens, not a checklist, and "blessed" at its core means happy. After reading Matthew 5:1-12 the episode covers the first three: poor in spirit, they that mourn (James 4:4-10), and the meek, who know they are part of a bigger story. The examples are Abram letting Lot choose (Genesis 13:1-9), David sparing Saul (1 Samuel 24:1-7), and Moses, "very meek" (Numbers 12:3), pleading "blot me... out of thy book" (Exodus 32:32).

    Questions answered
    • Why did Jesus teach the Sermon on the Mount to His disciples and not the crowd? (0:00)

    • Why are they that mourn blessed? (33:54)
    • What does meek mean in the Bible? (44:05)
    • Why is Moses called the meekest man on earth? (59:42)

  • Can Gay People Be Saved? Romans 1 and 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 | Straight Bible
Can gay people be saved, or are they beyond repentance? Romans 1 and 1 Corinthians 6:9-11: "And such were some of you: but ye are washed... sanctified... justified."
A Straight Bible study, hosted by Matt Hepner and TopLobsta.

After a guest on an earlier episode argued that homosexuals are past the point of repentance, Matt explains why he let him talk, why he disagreed, and why the church plays the long game. They unpack Romans 1: "I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ" (1:16), creation leaves men "without excuse" (1:20), "Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools" (1:22), and "God gave them over to a reprobate mind" (1:28). Matt reads it as mankind as a whole rejecting God, not a verdict on one person.

A tolerant church is nothing new. In Corinth a man had "his father's wife," and Paul said "put away from among yourselves that wicked person" (1 Corinthians 5:1-13). Once the man repented, Paul said "ye ought rather to forgive him, and comfort him" (2 Corinthians 2:7). In Matthew 19 Jesus says "he which made them at the beginning made them male and female."

The only unforgivable sin is blasphemy against the Holy Ghost (Mark 3:20-30; Matthew 12:31), with G. Campbell Morgan's explanation. The answer comes from 1 Corinthians 6:9-11: those who practise these sins "shall not inherit the kingdom of God," but "such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus."

    Questions answered
    - Are gay people beyond repentance? (5:05)
    - Is Romans 1 about individuals or mankind? (14:11)
    - What does "gave them over to a reprobate mind" mean? (26:04)

  • The World | Straight Bible
The World | Straight Bible What does the Bible actually mean when it says “love not the world”? In this episode of Straight Bible, we break down the biblical definition of “the world” — not as nature or people, but as systems, structures, and orders that stand in opposition to God. Using Scripture alone, we examine how the Bible contrasts the world system with the Kingdom of God, and why Christians are called to live in the world but not of it. We cover: The biblical meaning of cosmos vs aion Why the world’s systems are broken by design Lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, and pride of life The danger of mixing the world into the church Why Christianity is not about reforming systems—but new birth How wealth, poverty, and comfort can both become spiritual traps What it truly means to be a pilgrim, stranger, and citizen of another kingdom This is not opinion. This is not church culture. This is Scripture interpreting Scripture. If you’ve ever struggled with how to live faithfully in a corrupt world system, this episode will sharpen your understanding and reset your priorities. • Do Christians Have to Keep the Sabbath? Romans 14 and Colossians 2:16 | Straight Bible
Do Christians have to keep the Sabbath? Romans 14 and Colossians 2:16: "Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of... the sabbath days."
A Straight Bible study, hosted by Matt Hepner and TopLobsta.

Was Jesus a wino? The Pharisees called Him "a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners" (Matthew 11:19). Jesus ate with publicans and sinners at Levi's house: "They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick" (Mark 2:17; Luke 5:27-32; Matthew 9:9-13), and "I desired mercy, and not sacrifice" (Hosea 6:6). "The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath" (Mark 2:27), and circumcision was done on the Sabbath (John 7:22-23). When He sent the seventy, He said "eat such things as are set before you" (Luke 10:8).

Romans 14 is the main passage. "Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations." On days: "One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind" (14:5). "The kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost" (14:17), and "It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine" if it makes a brother stumble (14:21).

Also covered: "All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient" (1 Corinthians 6:12), "commanding to abstain from meats" (1 Timothy 4:1-5), Colossians 2:16-17, the Sabbath days as "a shadow of things to come," Calvin on Hebrews 4, Galatians 3 and the promise to Abraham 430 years before the law, and every man's work tried by fire (1 Corinthians 3).

  • What Does Praying in the Holy Ghost Mean? Jude 1:20-25 (KJV) | Book of Jude
What does "praying in the Holy Ghost" mean in Jude 1:20-25 (KJV)? Jude ends with the answer to apostasy: build up your faith, pray in the Holy Ghost, and keep yourselves in the love of God.
Book of Jude Pt 7 (the final study), hosted by Matt Hepner and TopLobsta.

Our last study in Jude. Verses 20-25 give the solution, and Matt starts with a warning: we win arguments with our lives, not with words. "Building up yourselves on your most holy faith" goes to "Increase our faith" (Luke 17:5-10) and faith as a grain of mustard seed (Matthew 17:14-21).

Praying in the Holy Ghost is more than praying in tongues. The Spirit "maketh intercession for us" (Romans 8:26), your body is His temple (1 Corinthians 6:19-20), the Father gives the Holy Spirit to them that ask (Luke 11:9-13), and the church at Antioch prayed and fasted (Acts 13:1-4). The opposite: "ye do always resist the Holy Ghost" (Acts 7:51).

Then counting the cost (Luke 14:25-33), David at home "at the time when kings go forth to battle" (2 Samuel 11), "keep yourselves in the love of God" beside "him that is able to keep you from falling," and Paul's shipwreck, where God gave him "all them that sail with thee" (Acts 27:24). Who's on your ship?

  • Who Are the Mockers in the Last Time? Jude 1:16-19 (KJV) | Book of Jude
Who are the mockers "in the last time" in Jude 1:16-19 (KJV)? Murmurers, complainers and mockers walk after their own lusts, and Jude's answer is to grow.
Book of Jude Pt 6, hosted by Matt Hepner and TopLobsta.

Verse 16 starts with murmurers. Matt says murmuring in the Bible is "people who know the Lord and yet they still complain": Israel "murmured in their tents" (Psalm 106:25), and Paul warns "Neither murmur ye" (1 Corinthians 10:10).

Walking after their own lusts: "in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves" (2 Timothy 3:1-2), "evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse" (2 Timothy 3:13), itching ears (2 Timothy 4:3), and "every man did that which was right in his own eyes" (Judges 21:25; Proverbs 14:12; Jeremiah 16 and 18; Genesis 2-3).

Verses 17-19: having men's persons in admiration is respect of persons (James 2:1-9). Saul "feared the people" (1 Samuel 15:24), and the chief rulers "loved the praise of men more than the praise of God" (John 12:43). Jude's mockers are Peter's scoffers (2 Peter 3:3), and the answer is "grow in grace" (2 Peter 3:18) and abide in the vine (John 15). Grow or die.

    Questions answered
    • What is a murmurer in the Bible? (2:36)
    • What are the perilous times of the last days? (24:31)
    • What does "every man did that which was right in his own eyes" mean? (43:00)

    • Who are the mockers in the last time? (1:33:10)
    • How do you grow in grace? (1:48:13)

  • What Did Enoch Prophesy? Jude 1:14-15 (KJV) | Book of Jude
What did Enoch prophesy in Jude 1:14-15 (KJV)? "Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, to execute judgment upon all," and Enoch, who walked with God, stands against the apostates.
Book of Jude Pt 5, hosted by Matt Hepner and TopLobsta.

Enoch, "the seventh from Adam," gets only a few verses in the Bible, and they are profound. "By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death," and "without faith it is impossible to please him" (Hebrews 11:5-6). God is "a rewarder of them that diligently seek him": ask, seek, knock (Matthew 7:7), and "It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter" (Proverbs 25:2).

"And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him" (Genesis 5:24). Walking with God means to "walk humbly with thy God" (Micah 6:8), and "Can two walk together, except they be agreed?" (Amos 3:3).

Enoch preached judgment, and so does the New Testament: Jesus is "ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead" (Acts 10:42), God "will judge the world in righteousness" (Acts 17:31), and Paul charges Timothy to preach the word before saying "I have fought a good fight" (2 Timothy 4:1-8). The study closes with Paul's farewell to the Ephesian elders (Acts 20:17-38).

    Questions answered
    • Who was Enoch, the seventh from Adam? (3:06)
    • How did Enoch please God? (8:36)
    • Why does God hide things? (23:15)
    • What does it mean that Enoch walked with God? (38:15)
    • What did Enoch prophesy? (50:59)
    • Is Jesus the judge in the New Testament? (54:26)

  • What Is the Way of Cain and the Error of Balaam? Jude 1:11 (KJV) | Book of Jude
What is "the way of Cain" and "the error of Balaam" in Jude 1:11 (KJV)? Cain, Balaam and Core are three men who used God for their own gain, and Jude says the apostates follow them.
Book of Jude Pt 4, hosted by Matt Hepner and TopLobsta.

Jude moves from group examples (Israel, the angels, Sodom and Gomorrah) to three individuals. Cain comes first: "By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain" (Hebrews 11:4), then Genesis 4, "Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one" (1 John 3:12), comparing ourselves among ourselves (2 Corinthians 10:12), and Saul, where "to obey is better than sacrifice" (1 Samuel 15:22).

Next, the apostates "ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward." Matt walks through Balak and Balaam (Numbers 22, 23, 25 and 31), "How shall I curse, whom God hath not cursed?" (Numbers 23:8), the doctrine of Balaam (Revelation 2:14), and "the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness" (2 Peter 2:15).

Core: Korah's rebellion with two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly (Numbers 16). Matt's summary: "A man of faith sacrifices himself for the good of the people. A man that's an apostate sacrifices the people for the good of himself." The study closes by reading verses 12-13.

    Questions answered
    • Why was Abel's sacrifice more excellent than Cain's? (10:26)
    • What is the way of Cain? (19:18)
    • Why is obeying better than sacrifice? (37:46)
    • What is the error of Balaam? (47:50)
    • What is the doctrine of Balaam in Revelation 2? (1:11:51)

  • Who Are the Filthy Dreamers? Jude 1:8-10 (KJV) | Book of Jude
Who are the filthy dreamers? In Jude 1:8-10 (KJV) they are the ungodly men who crept in unawares: they defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities.
Book of Jude Part 3 with Matt Hepner and TopLobsta: they know only what they know naturally, as brute beasts, while Michael durst not bring a railing accusation.

Jude lumps these filthy dreamers in with Israel, the angels, and Sodom. Matt shows how Jesus spoke to the Pharisees (Matthew 23), how bitterness defiles (Hebrews 12), and how 2 Peter 2 parallels Jude on despising government, then asks what the government of God is (John 17, Ephesians 4, Acts 13-14), looks at Michael and the body of Moses, and closes on feigned words and the carnal mind (1 Corinthians 2, Romans 8, James 4).

    Primary passage: Jude 1:8-10 (KJV)
    Also in this episode: Matthew 23:13-28 · Hebrews 12:5-17 · Titus 1:15-16 · 2 Peter 2:1-12 · John 17:3-23 · Ephesians 4:9-13 · Acts 13:1-4 · Acts 14:14 · Acts 6:1-4 · Deuteronomy 34:1-7 · Matthew 17:1-9 · Exodus 24:15-18 · 1 Corinthians 2:11-3:2 · Romans 8:1-8 · James 4:4
