Strange Places

The Kelly–Hopkinsville encounter (also known as the Hopkinsville Goblins Case or Kelly Green Men Case) was a claimed close encounter with extraterrestrial beings in 1955 near the communities of Kelly and Hopkinsville in Christian County, Kentucky. UFOlogists regard it as one of the most significant and well-documented cases in the history of UFO incidents, while skeptics say the reports were due to "the effects of excitement" and misidentification of natural phenomena. Did it really happen, or is something else at work?

John Wilkes Booth. We all know his name. He is one of, or perhaps the, most notorious and well known fugitive criminals in history. The man who murdered US President Abraham Lincoln. What always seemed in the history books like an open and shut case - Booth tracked down and killed in a barn - may not be the actual story. There were always other stories brewing about in the background. Only told in whispers. Whispers that may have been telling the truth.

Strange things were witnessed in the deepest parts of the Nottingham forest in England. A group of children looking for a bit of mischief one September 1970's night saw something that they would never forget. Something that still fascinates. Still intrugues, and still frightens. It hearkens back to a lot of the more ancient stories from the area. Stories of little creatures. Little magic beings. Does this happening lend some credence to fairy tales of old?

There is a song, originally written in Hungary during the first years of the Great Depression. A song of lament. Melancholy. Pain and strife. Of lost love and the sins of evil men. Some believe that the song tapped into something supernatural, causing those who listen to it to commit suicide. Is it real or just another legend?

There is a recording studio in Paducah Kentucky, my hometown. Earthsound studio - a place where your local singer/songwriter or band can make a single or an album in a professionally treated environment, recorded by professional engineers. The owner is a collector of the odd and the bizarre. One of those strange and rare items hanging on the walls is a lute, dating all the way back to the dark ages. Little did I know when I reached up and strummed the strings, that the item is known to carry a curse. This is a true story, and one of the more personal on the show. Enjoy!

St. Augustine, Florida. What some people say is the oldest city in the United States of America. The whole town itself, due to its often violent history, is known to be one of the most haunted locations in the world. The lighthouse of St. Augustine, however, is the place that is perhaps the most talked about in town. A place where even the screams of the dead can still be heard. Is it real? Or is it another legend?

Cape Girardeau. 1941. Something supposedly occurred that would have proven the existence of alien life, as well as their ships, long before the fabled Roswell crash of 1947. It is believed that a UFO crashed outside of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, but that's not all. It is believed that bodies were on board. A photograph had been taken of them and is believed to be lost. Is there any evidence left? Did it actually happen?

A hammer was discovered in ancient, prehistoric rock. The rock formed around the iron and wood human tool seemingly over millions of years. Discovered in the modern era, this hammer has been a source of fascination and mystery that has baffled even the greatest experts in the fields of science, physics, history, and geology. Is there something else at play here, or does the storybook of human history need to be re-written?

AS17-135-20680 (OF300). This sequence of numbers and letters may mean nothing to you, but head to the Apollo 17 photo archive at NASA's online headquarters and search that file number. What you can see and freely download due to all declassification of the archive, has been a subject of hot debate and study for years. What looks like the impossible is present on the surface of our moon. Some say this photo is THE smoking gun of extraterrestrial activity outside of earth. Some people simply shake their heads and say they cannot explain its mind-shattering implications. It seems that no one is saying what it could be. Is the photo truly a smoking gun? Or is there something else at play here?

In 2012, a video surfaced that showed something unfathomable. An immensely large scale event occurred that left the internet's collective mouth agape. An observation made by NASA's solar observatory captured something beyond strange, and the internet was waiting with held breath at a possible explanation. An explanation by NASA arrived, but is that all there is to it? Find out here.
