  • Self-Care

It is important for people with ADHD to be aware of their Self-Care... Self Care is ultimately Self-Awareness. It is extremely important that people with ADHD learn to rest emotionally, socially, physically, mentally and spiritually. When people with ADHD are more self aware we can be more productive, respond instead of react, and above all be our complete best selves.

  • Patience

    1) Be patient with yourself :

A.)  Be patient with yourself as the thoughts slow down because
      of therapy and medication
B.)  Be patient with yourself as you are less impulsive and are
       daily becoming someone new
C.)  Be patient with yourself as the world now seems to be in slow
motion in comparison to the world viewed prior to medication,
       therapy and self-awareness

    2) Be patient w/ others as they adjust to the change in your learning to advocate for yourself

       A) Be patient As you implement new strategies that you learn in
therapy others are NOT used to your new strategies that are
      working for you
       B) Be patient As you are developing and growing, others may
appear to be more irritated or a range of emotions that you
missed previously BECAUSE of lack of focus

  • Acceptance

One of the most difficult parts of my journey as an adult with ADHD was accepting that I am an adult with ADHD. You will repeatedly hear me refer to myself and others using people first language. I am an adult with ADHD and not and ADHD adult. Nevertheless, as an adult with ADHD after accepting what I have and does not have me, I have learned a lot about myself. However, none of this growth would have been possible if I remained in denial and did not accept it.
