  • Strung Out Episode 109: PEANUTS ENVY, HOT WORLD AND 5 JUNK DRAWERS

    Send us Fan Mail

On this episode, Marty runs through what has been going on in his art world.  Not only does he have a lot of art waiting to start, but he has run into that age-old artist problem: he needs money to do all the art he thinks the world needs.  So, he talks about how important it is for support, especially the site like Buy Me A Coffee, that he has started using.  Next, he mentions how algorhythms and computers in general have become not only the messenger, but the gatekeeper as well.  Amazon music considers Miss Rack's Zoo explicit material...find out why.  A brief pondering over the United Kingdom hitting the high 80's and how just plain wrong that is.  And how truly plain wrong is having five junk drawers in his home.   Listen in!

The height of summer is here.  And like a lazy summer ballgame, Marty and Sandeep toss the ball back and forth a bit, about issues that are out there, but not necessarily hot button issues.  Enjoy!

  • Strung Out Episode 107 THREE WISHES THAT NEED THREE GEARS

    Send us Fan Mail

As Martin gets closer to his birthday, he discusses three issues that could see some change in the next year.  However, for that change to happen, people need to look at the idea of how Democracy works on three separate, but equal gears. Legislation, Moral (religious) and Civic Responsibility (or Societal Responsibility) gears must mesh in order to make the machine that is Democracy run.   Too often people tend to put all their focus on the first two, while underplaying or dismissing outright the third gear.  It is the third gear, Civic that totally relies on us alone as citizens on what to do to make a difference.  Where the other two gears rely on our input (or faith) and dictate how we are to act in a Democracy, the third gear is the only gear that requires us to be actively engaged in creating positive change.  Listen in.

  • Strung Out Episode 106 ONE NATION UNDER GOD, DIVISIBLE.

    Send us Fan Mail

Our podcast is in three parts.  Part one looks at the recent Supreme Court decisions and how they seem to reflect a push for a quasi-religious stance on what should be secular law.  While it can be argued that overruling Roe v. Wade has "kicked the issue to the states," the fundamental challenge of abortion is still there.  That abortion crosses into a realm of where religious belief clashes with secular law.   While some states now will not have abortions,  others will continue to do so.  So, who has won here?   And if we are to diminish the number of abortions in the United States, doesn't that become with taking care of the people who are most likely to seek an abortion?  Doesn't that require a citizenry that is willing to financially assist, provide education, opportunities and childcare necessary to help fellow citizens so they can choose to have children?

The second part of our podcast takes a lighthearted look at where a person can claim to be a citizen of these days without drawing any condemnation or embarrassment.  Portugal seems to be a good call.  Marty and Sandeep talk about some of the possibilites.

The third part of our podcast is the need of citizens to be active in their community.  How finding a good hobby, a healthy activity, a chance to be with fellow citizens is the first step in combating some of the divisiveness that plagues the United States on this fourth of July, 2022.   Listen in!

  • Strung Out Episode 103. REWILDING REVISIT

    Send us Fan Mail

PLEASE--help keep my podcast going.  Will you consider a gift?  Go to: Martin McCormack (buymeacoffee.com)

Martin talks about rewilding and how it is starting to gain traction around the world.  The premise is that certain places that have been used by human beings, such as farming, ranching or in one case a bridge, can be returned to a state of wilderness or near wilderness.  The benefits are many, from combating climate change, to providing eco-tourism opportunities, to creating ways of using sustainable wild products, such as fish, deer and bison.
Martin chooses three examples of rewilding in action.  Two of them, the Scottish Rewilding Alliance (which seeks to make Scotland the rewilding capital of the world) and the American Prairie Reserve, are well underway.  The third is highly unusual, The Bison Bridge Project, a first of its kind rewilding program that is worth paying attention to.  All of these places are able to be visited and each have interesting and well-developed websites.  Tune in.

  • Strung Out Episode 102. A LONG TOUR, WHAT ART SHOWS, WARNING LABELS

    Send us Fan Mail

    Martin McCormack (buymeacoffee.com)

On this episode, Marty talks about having a long tour ahead to Colorado.   He then talks about how the visual arts (especially painting and drawing) have been the art that has been with mankind the longest and why that is so important in this world.  The final segment has to do with the need for warning labels on some "so-called" news programs.   And Marty muses about why we don't have "content labels" for programming that would measure the worth of a news program or any show for that matter.  Listen in!

  • Strung Out Episode 101 GUNS OF WAR

    Send us Fan Mail

What do the recent massacres in Buffalo and Uvalde have to do with the carnage in Ukraine? Both involve the wrong use of guns of war.  What is behind the thinking that propels forward this idea of war force being something that is proper to possess and indiscriminately use?
Martin discusses the age-old problem of the tyranny of the few over the many.  Although the gun violence and misuse of guns is on the surface different from the violence and misuse of guns by Russia over Ukraine, both, at their root have the same problem.  Listen in.

  • Strung Out Episode 100 SALT WATER, TICKS & ARMADILLOS

    Send us Fan Mail

The Midwest has always been considered a "stable" area when it comes to climate and climate change.  Predictable is an even better word to describe our four seasons.  Anchored by the Great Lakes, we have a reliable water source that is perfect for agriculture, industry and population growth.

But even here, we are starting to see what the change in the climate is doing.  And we are starting to be affected by the parts of the country that are getting climate change faster and stronger.  Anyone who marveled at the beautiful red sunsets last summer know full well that they were caused by the fires out West.

However, it is the little things that also weigh in on climate change.  Marty talks about two of those little things that signal that things are going to get a lot worse before they get better.
